I Am Wolf…

I am wolf. I speak to you for my species. Please stop killing us.

We have walked this earth for thousands of years. We want to live in peace and raise our families. If we occasionally kill livestock it’s because we are hungry and you make it so easy. Nobody is guarding the cows and sheep. We are hunters and so we hunt. You kill billions of animals every year for food yet you blame us for a a few dozen cows?

People chase us with guns and shoot us. They use nasty traps that hurt our legs. Once in Alaska, one of our kind, a mother wolf, was stuck in a leg hold trap for fourteen days, she was so hungry her teeth were broken from eating rocks. Would you like to have your leg or arm stuck in a trap so you couldn’t get away? Then after you have been stuck for days or even weeks, with your family surrounding you but helpless to set you free, someone comes and shoots you?

You make us orphans to starve or kill us with our parents. You chase us in helicopter gun ships, we run for our lives but we can’t get away. Your shotguns riddle us with buckshot. We cry and howl in pain, then we die. This is wrong. We would never treat you this way.

We are wild, we don’t understand your rules. We can’t read signs or understand your boundaries. We are driven by hundreds of thousands of years of evolution. What we do is in our genes. We were put on this earth to keep ungulate herds healthy. We mean you no harm. Please stop killing our families. There is room on this land for both of us. You only have to find a place in your heart for us to dwell.

I am wolf…

    • Hi Agnes,
It came from the heart. If it touches one wolf hater it will be worth it, just one, if they would put down their gun and see wolf for who they are.

And I wrote it for all my readers who love the wolf as I do. We are their voice.

  5. This touched me dearly, frankly,I can’t find the right words after reading that eight wolves (2 adult and 6 pups)over one lamb in southwest Wyoming.Something has to be done with wild life services.Of course Ed Bangs.too.

    • Ed Bangs abandoned wolves a long time ago Rita. He is right there and knows exactly what the states are doing. He was in the courtroom during oral arguments. I blame him for recommending wolves were ready to be delisted when he knows full well the hostility that faced wolves. Even with ESA protection look what Wyoming was able to do. This behvavior is brutal, outdated, beneath us as human beings. It has to stop. We won’t rest until wildlife management changes from the bottom to the top.

    • Yes Agnes, I heard wolves howling yesterday, it was such a comfort to hear them but at the same sad because I know they are not safe.

  8. I too am wolf within the depths of my heart. Each time one of my brothers, sisters, or little ones is senselessly killed by man my heart bleeds more yet. Please stop taking their lives and if it helps at all think about how you’d feel losing one of your own to another mans violence!

  10. Nicely done.

It only saddens me that the ones who practice killing wolves will never stop unless they have the willpower to do so.

    • John..it’s plain old blood lust. Wolves are being scapegoated again like the first extermination, apparently nothing was learned by wiping out a species on the Western landscape. And this is their home. That’s the irony of it.

The hatred toward wolves is global and gets exceedingly twisted if left unchecked, if you feel up to it read this, be warned it is upsetting:

Sport hunting needs to be banned and not just in America. It is apparent that the activity affects mental health.

      • I totally agree John, sport hunting should be banned, period. As for the link, I’ll try watching, don’t know how far I’ll get.

These missinformed close minded individuals even teach their young children to hate and want to kill the Wolves! If somehow we could change their minds but I fear this will never happen.Regardless we must never give up the fight! I will never give up! Auwwwoooooooo

    • Well said Penny. I was so offended to see little kids carrying anti-wolf signs in front of the federal courthouse, when Judge Molloy was hearing oral arguments.

We become self righteous and full of our own ego and agenda and care little for other beings, I am so sorry for these animals, laws need to be changed and enforced. It should be a crime to murder innocent animals so callously. Bless those beautiful animals and may their spirits soar free……

    • How beautifully put L. Jackson…thanks for your insight. I love the wolf and I love what they stand for, freedom to be wild. That is becoming a rarer thing in this world. People don’t realize what they are doing. stealing our wild places and replacing them with what? More civilization? We should cherish our wild creatures and wild places.
