William...this all goes back to the early European farmers and ranchers that came from a predator sanitized Europe and proceeded to kill anything that moved, including all the predator's prey animals.Hundreds of years of backward, entitlement thinking. Can they seriously believe they are more important then endangered wolves? Sadly they may be right, if USFWS doesn't get serious.

I couldn't agree more with Salle on the other blog when he talked about ranchers and their sense of entitlement to free predator control being a right! This has allowed them to stay complacent or lazy with their animal husbandry methods! The arrogance of this entitlement where no other species deserves a place in the ecosystem but their shitcows is facinating!

Rita they will never stop whining as long as they perceive themselves as victims. They believe they run the western states and can have their way and why shouldn't they believe that? The feds have been bowing to their whims for hundreds of years. That's what has to change.

As much as everyone is tired of hearing about the elk numbers,I want to say I am sick of ranchers and hunters complaining about losing their life styles and their traditions.Ask the fisherman in the gulf and and the fisherman in Alaska after the Exon spill and how their lives changed. Those were all caused by man and not an animal. Ask every American who worked hard everyday to provide for ones family, only to lose your job after years of service.I think anyone in our current economic situation, feels that their traditions will or could be be lost. This is the time to surround yourself with family and good friends. It is going to a long recovery and one better find or explore other things to bind you as a family besides hunting.

Very well said Mark. This is just a non-issue blown completely out of proportion for one reason and one reason only. I think the hunting groups, especially the Safari Club, are working to weaken or get rid of the ESA. They see the wolf as their chance to finally do this. They have been chomping at the bit for years to accomplish this. So the hunting and ranching groups, with the help of the politicians are whipping up their sheeple, who are blindly following along, not really knowing why. I bet the majority of them have never even seen a wild wolf but they believe the Toby Bridges and Ron Gillettes. And the wolf is paying the price for their hatred. Wolves have no idea what's swirling around them. They are just tryining to exist in this cruel world. Heck it's hard enough to be a wolf without all the other baggage following them around. My biggest concern is there will be lots of wolf poaching with little response to it from law enforcement. How can we expect different? There is no line apparently you can't cross to meet the goal of killing wolves. And yet USFWS is sitting and watching this Kabuki Theater and saying nothing. They are in charge of wolves now and that means they are in charge of their welfare. But it seems they are encouraging or at least going along with all the nonsense. Shame on them.

What was Thomas Jefferson's famous quote?

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure."

Of course I'm not advocating revolution but Jefferson warned if the people become complacent, our liberties could be taken from us. He believed government should be afraid of the people, not the other way around. After all they work for us, something they seem to have forgotten.

Aren't these the same people who complain about taxation without representation and who use an event called a tea party as their rallying cry? So long as they are represented they are fine and do not care about other voices - just so their voice is heard the loudest. There are stakeholdgers on this issue other than those invited to the meeting by state government. Wildlife belongs to everyone. This action has disenfranchised the members of the citizenry who do not belong to the special interest segments participating in the meeting and speaks to the lack of interest this agency has in truly representing all the people of Montana. Albert Camus said "Every revolutionary ends up either by becoming an oppressor or a heretic" and here we may find examples of both.
