916 Wolves Massacred in Hunts….

gray wolf tumblr the champion

What gives with the number changes? Can’t they count? Did they lose two wolves?

I haven’t been saving the individual daily counts but now I am. This has happened several times. Idaho’s counts have changed too. It’s bad enough having to do this but seeing the numbers go up and down  is even more maddening

There are no words for this disgusting display of cowardice and brutality. Why are these wolves dead?  What is their crime? That they live and breathe air?

All who are silent are guilty. All who made this possible are guilty. All who pulled the trigger, shot the arrows, used the poison, set the traps and snares, baited and called,  tracked the collars, killed the babies, killed the mothers, killed the fathers, killed the brothers, killed the sisters, killed without mercy, killed with black hearts, tortured, maimed, chased, bludgeoned, strangled, stalked and stabbed have my utter and complete contempt.

We will stop this madness, we will end this nightmare, we will save America’s wolves from this butchery, no matter how long it takes or the sacrifices we have to make. We will never give up, we will not capitulate. We are legion.

For the wolves,

Nabeki

Will You?

This post is dedicated to all wolves who’ve suffered and continue to suffer brutal, senseless deaths in the name of blood sport and agribusiness.

The brutal war against America’s wolves wages on?

Will you be silent?

Will you fight for them?

Will you allow this to continue?

Will you organize in your hometown?

Will you hold a protest?

Will you work to end public land grazing?

Will you write letters to the editor?

Will you write to the Infamous 81 US Senators  who voted to delist wolves in the Northern Rockies via budget rider?

Will you tell those Senators you WILL NOT VOTE FOR THEM on November 6 because of their betrayal?

Will you boycott all wolf states that hold trophy hunts or kill wolves for agribusiness?

Will you boycott Yellowstone National Park to send Wyoming a message?

Will you spread this message to everyone you know?

Will you be a true Wolf Warrior?

Will you?

ALERT: Coeur d’ alene Wolf Rally and Memorial, Thursday, August 30, 2012

UPDATE: August 31, 2012

The rally was a tremendous  success!!  Between 80 and 100 people attended, with many wonderful speakers. Bella the Husky, who lost her leg to a trap brought a tear to everyone’s eye.  Thanks to everyone who attended.  This was the largest wolf rally crowd by far!!

Please keep our beloved wolves in your thoughts and prayers, the wolf hunt in Idaho started yesterday and Montana’s wolf /witch hunt begins  September 1, 2012 with wolf archery. Wolf families will be arrowed to death by black-hearted trophy hunters, who take pleasure in killing innocent animals.

“Wolves Belong: Stop the Slaughter”

Rally & Memorial  set for  Thursday, August 30 in
Coeur d’Alene’s Fort Sherman/City Park, 3:30  to 7:30pm Pacific time

For Immediate Release

August 22, 2012
Contacts: Catherine Feher , Predator Defense
Brett Haverstick, Friends of the Clearwater
Ann Sydow, Northern Idaho Wolf Alliance

COEUR D’ALENE, ID. — A rally honoring the 379 wolves killed in Idaho, during the 2011-2012 wolf hunt, is set for Thursday August 30, 3:30 – 7:30pm at Fort Sherman/Coeur d’Alene City Park.  The rally will feature live music, guest speakers, a ceremony honoring wolves killed,  information tables,  and a trap-release workshop put on by Footloose Montana, aimed at educating citizens on how to identify traps/snares, and if necessary, how to release a pet from a trap.

Over 500 wolves have been killed in Idaho/Montana since the species was delisted via legislative rider from the Endangered Species List in 2011. The 2012-2013 wolf hunt on public lands in Idaho begins the same day of the rally. Hunting on private lands in the Panhandle region of Idaho has been occurring since July 1, making it a year ‘round hunt in some areas.

“It’s time to end fairy tale fantasies. Science clearly shows that healthy populations of wolves and other predator species are critical for a healthy environment,” said Brooks Fahy, Executive Director of Predator Defense. “The shooting, trapping, snaring and torture of wolves must stop. The slaughter of wolves in Idaho is being driven by a fanatical blood lust that has no place in modern wildlife management.”

Many conservationists in the Northern Rockies feel that the Obama administration has failed in their duties to protect the iconic species.

“Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar has utterly failed in his duties to keep federally endangered species like wolves from the blood-thirsty hands of our state fish and game agencies. What is happening in Idaho and Montana is about to happen in Wyoming. A lack of federal leadership and foresight is leading to a killing floor for wolves”, said Brett Haverstick, Education & Outreach Director for Friends of the Clearwater.

According to the 2011 Idaho Wolf Monitoring Progress report issued by Idaho Fish & Game and the Nez Perce tribe, there were 746 wolves in the state of Idaho last December.

“Of the 379 wolves killed in last year’s hunt, 40 were puppies, 56 suffered in leg-hold traps before being killed, and another 67 choked to death in snares,” said Ann Sydow with the Northern Idaho Wolf Alliance (NIWA). “Special interest groups refuse to share their hunting grounds and their grazing allotments, even in publicly owned National Forests.”

Predator Defense, Friends of the Clearwater, Northern Idaho Wolf Alliance, Kootenai Environmental Alliance, Footloose Montana and Center for Biological
Diversity are co-sponsoring the event.

Confusion Concerning Facts Surrounding The Killing Of Bull Buffalo In Idaho…

UPDATE: July 28, 2012

This is most recent statement posted on the Buffalo Field Campaign’s website concerning the killing of the Yellowstone bull buffalo.

“This morning a bull buffalo that had migrated from the Yellowstone region into Island Park, Idaho was shot and killed. BFC patrols responded to the scene only to learn that the bull had been killed moments before we arrived by an Idaho Department of Agriculture official and the Fremont County sheriff’s office. The Nature Conservancy, who owns a ranch and grazes cattle in the area where the buffalo was killed–and at least one other resident–contacted the State of Idaho to notify them of the bull’s presence. According to what BFC learned, the Fremont County sheriff said they called Montana and Yellowstone National Park, neither of whom wanted the bull buffalo returned. The sheriff further claimed that the bull was a “danger” to campers in Idaho and posed a brucellosis “threat” to cattle, neither of which is true. Buffalo are gentle giants and have very clear ways of communicating, making it extremely easy to co-exist with them. Further, no wild buffalo has ever transmitted brucellosis back to the cattle they got it from, and it is basically impossible for a bull bison to transmit brucellosis. Idaho demonstrated this by leaving his guts and reproductive organs in the field after they killed him. BFC patrols responded that wild elk – who also carry brucellosis – roam freely throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, and the sheriff’s response was that elk “bring in revenue.”

This bull buffalo was a perfect example of natural restoration that wild buffalo will undertake if humans will only learn to relax their coveted control over all things wild and free, learn to co-exist, and welcome the rightful roamers of North America back on their native habitat.”

UPDATE: July 27, 2012

On July 26 I posted information about a bull buffalo, who migrated from the Yellowstone area to a Nature Conservancy Ranch in Idaho. The buffalo was shot and killed. This information came directly from the Buffalo Field Campaign.  They stated:

===

Update from the Field: Idaho Stops Wild Bison Dead in His Tracks

“This morning a bull buffalo that had migrated from the Yellowstone region onto the Nature Conservancy-owned Flat Ranch was shot and killed. The Nature Conservancy, who grazes cattle on their ranch, acted in gross contradiction to their name and purpose by calling authorities to request that the bull be removed. BFC patrols responded to the scene only to learn that the bull had been killed moments before we arrived by a USDA official and the Fremont County sheriff’s office.

This bull buffalo was a perfect example of natural restoration that wild buffalo will undertake if humans will only learn to relax their coveted control over all things wild and free, learn to co-exist, and welcome the rightful roamers of North America back on their native habitat. Instead of conserving nature as their name implies, The Nature Conservancy is shamefully responsible for ending the life of the only wild bison in the state of Idaho.

The Nature Conservancy is shamefully responsible for ending the life of the only wild bison in the state of Idaho. While Idaho would likely have taken lethal action anyway, The Nature Conservancy should have stood their ground in defense of wildlife, especially an ecologically extinct species.

Please hold The Nature Conservancy accountable for this unforgivable and incongruent action.

You can call Ruth Harbaum of The Nature Conservancy’s Flat Ranch, who made the call that killed the bull, at 208-558-7629, and let her know how disappointed you are by her and her organization’s actions. You may want to also contact the Idaho and National offices of The Nature Conservancy.”

Idaho Hell Hole For Wolves….

Apparently having a wolf hunt seven months of the year and up to ten months in parts of the state (Lolo and Selway) isn’t good enough for Idaho, now the Gem state has made life even more miserable for wolves, if that’s  possible.  According to new rules there will be a wolf hunt somewhere in the state all year-long.

2012 Gray Wolf Hunting and Trapping Seasons
and General Rules

Panhandle  (1, 2, 3, 4, 4A, 5, 6, 7, 9)

Aug 30 – Mar 31 - 5 wolf hunting tags may be used

July 1 – Mar 31 – 5 wolf hunting tags may be used.  Private land only.

http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/docs/rules/bgWolf.pdf

Read the gory details and grit your teeth. It’s death by a thousand cuts. The state is slowly strangling the life out of wolves. Drip, drip, drip, wolf blood flows, families are torn apart, puppies die. This is what passes as responsible wolf management.

Are you watching this USFWS? Do you still think Idaho is doing a peachy job of caring for wolves? You should hang your heads in shame for putting your stamp of approval on this. Everyone who had a hand in turning wolves over to this state, is responsible for the slaughter of innocents.

This is why we have to work harder than ever to stop this madness!! They are thumbing their noses at every wolf advocate and wildlife watcher that care about these animals. Our opinions mean nothing to them.

Idaho to make wolf hunting year round

By On July 3, 2012 · 2 Comments · In Idaho Wolves, Politics, Wolves

State to always have at least one area open to wolf hunting-

New rules! Idaho has decided in effect to always have at least one place in the state open to wolf hunting on a rotating basis.  This is in addition to the general wolf hunt that goes for about half a year. Wolf hunting began July 1 this year on private land in northern Idaho.  The general wolf hunt will begin Aug. 30 and go until March 31. However, some units will remain open until June 30. Then on July 1, 2013 private land in northern Idaho will again open.

Under the new rules, there is no limit on how many wolves can be killed in total except in 5 wolf hunting units.
