Make A Difference For Wolves!!

Interior Department’s decision imperils wolves, Endangered Species Act

Note:  This is a good editorial from Defenders but the author only mentions wolves killed in the hunts.  The author states there are 1350 wolves remaining from a population of 1650.  The figure is really 1136 and declining.  Another 81 wolves are left to be killed in Idaho and Wildlife Services is gunning for wolves in 6 different packs in Montana.

More then 500 wolves are dead in the Northern Rockies, 214 killed in the combined hunts and 300 wolves lost to Wildlife Services, poachers, ranchers and natural mortality.  Wildlife Services is as big a threat to the gray wolf as the hunts.  We can’t forget that and should include it any discussion concerning the slaughter of America’s wolves.

  1. Thank you for the “If Everyone Cared” and Margaret Mead’s quote!!!! How empowering.
It felt like an all time low when the new year started with the news that Sweden’s wolf hunt, that started today, had already on the first day reached almost its quota: 20 out of the 27 to be hunted have been killed. I cannot but wonder how much the example of Idaho (and US government with a Nobel peace prize president allowing the American Hunt) made a difference for the Swedes in going ahead with its first wolf hunt in 45 years–with the blessing of the King of Sweden…
But one cannot stop in sorrow or anger but move onwards and INDEED form alliances to stop this atrocity!

    • Hi Sudelle….I am so sad about Sweden’s wolves. This is terrible news. Wolf persecution is global!

Hunters kill 20 wolves in first Swedish hunt in 45 years

I wanted to post something uplifting for 2010, so I thought Nickelback’s video captured the spirit of what we are trying to do. So many wolves died in 2009 and now it continues into 2010 with the Idaho hunt, WS and Swedish wolves.

I do believe the Northern Rockies wolf hunt influenced the Swedish wolf hunt to go forward. When Swedes see Americans slaughtering hundreds of wolves, it sends a terrible message. And you’re right. We have a President that accepted a Nobel Peace Prize yet gives the green light to Salazar to start hunting and gunning for wolves. So much for positive change in Washington.

We have to push past this and keep fighting for wolves right to exist! Wolf advocates around the world are united in one purpose, to end the persecution and slaughter of wolves!!

For the wild ones, For the wilderness, For the Wolves!!

  2. I worked in Alaska on the Trans-Alaske pipe line. We had wolves pass within 8 feet of us on the north slopes and as long as we did not bother them they did not bother us. They are a beautiful animal and I think they belong on this earth along with us!!!!
