Can’t watch… darn you Smithsonian network!!
From “Wild animal interviews” by William T Hornaday (1929)
“And now look at the greatest service of all. Who is it, I ask you,” pursued the Wolf, “who puts pep, stamina, and the savvy of the trail into the pampered domestic dogs of the North, and produces the best, the bravest and finest sled dogs in the world? Northern wolves, sir, and nobody else!…”

Absolutely John. Great quote. It’s the wolf that’s given us our wonderful dogs. And this is how we thank them.

The full article is set in a courtroom situation and oddly enough it practically spells out the gratitude of humans.

Hi Agnes,
So sorry you weren’t able to view Martin Clunes special. I was not aware there were country blocks on videos until John brought it to my attention. I have no idea why that happens? The Smithsonian Channel is a wonderful channel to watch and this particular special shows the close connection wolves and dogs have. In fact dogs are just domesticated wolves or designer wolves.

Martin Clunes sets off on a world wide adventure to discover how close the domestic dog is to its ancestor the wild wolf in a fascinating two-part documentary. The Doc Martin star takes a wry and witty look at why we are prepared to share our homes with dogs who are genetically still 99.8 per cent like wolves.
