    • Hi Agnes,
We are in the process of setting up the fund. It should be up and running after the Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks for asking. I hope we’ll be able to collect a substantial amount to let the wolf killers know we care about these wolves. We want to send a strong message.

Also our tee shirts should be ready to go soon as well. Hopefully within the next two weeks.

      Hope that helps Agnes,

For the wolves, For the wild ones,

  2. Nabeki, on Ralph’s page there is a post about the recent anti wolf bills not likely to pass this year, but next year is another story, but some good news for now. I have seen multiple programs on dire wolves as well as other prehistoric predators. Amazing animals indeed and I wish dire wolves were here today. Grey wolves are more adaptable and that is probably why they are still here with us today. BTW, just so I don’t forget, I want to wish everyone on here a happt thanksgiving. Rita, William, Nabeki, JerryBlack, Marc Cooke, John, etc. sorry if I am forgetting anyone. All of you guys are incredible and I am very glad there are people like you fighting for this amazing cause and that is trying to save out precious wildlife!

      • Rita, I think you’re always going to have problems and different views between hunters and non-hunters and it happens in Ralph’s blog and I am certain it happens other places as well. William stopped posting there for a while, but I am glad he came back.

      • Jon….I think Ralph’s blog is great and he has very up to date info on a wide range of environmental issues. I do wonder though what good the endless arguments between hunters and non-hunters really accomplishes? I don’t think many hearts and minds are changed. I’d rather read the info and stay out of the fray, although I occasionally comment. I think it’s important we stand up for wolves but it seems some of the posters there just want to argue for arguments sake and if you say the sky is blue they’ll say it’s turquoise. Just my take.

    • Hi Jon,
Thank you so much for being such a passionate advocate for wolves and other wildlife. You are a very valued member of this blog and it wouldn’t be the same without your updates, links and commentary. I want to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving as well.

As for the bills in Congress, I don’t think much is going to happen with this lame duck group unless one of the haters tries a stunt like they tried to pull off last month, by ramming an anti-wolf bill through. attached to a rider. I think they know we are onto them now and won’t try that again but we must be vigilant. The new Congress is going to be much worse since the Republicans took control of the House but the Dems have been no friend to the wolf either. Obama delisted them and both Dem Senators in Montana drafted ant-wolf legislation. I don’t trust either party.

Wolf Warriors is planning a campaign to energize people to fight the attack on the ESA. Katie is designing a poster for it, because we believe this is the biggest threat to wolves. Any bill that strips wolves of their ESA protections will spell doom for them and I think we all know that. We have to fight this with everything we have. I believe I have the contacts for the House and Senate on front page of the blog but if I don’t I’ll add it. I encourage everyone to call and write not just their own Senators and Congressmen but all of them, especially the committee chair members that have the most power.

These are tough times for wolves but I believe our grass roots movement is gaining power and people are finally waking up to the seriousness of the assault on wolves. This is a battle wolves can’t lose.

  3. Everyone should check out this story. Supposedly, a hunter/poacher saw a black wolf which was actually someone’s dog and shot at the dog.

    http://missoulian.com/news/opinion/mailbag/article_a55a65ce-f414-11df-b6eb-001cc4c03286.html

A friend and I were walking our dogs on my land when suddenly a deafening rifle shot fired in our direction reverberated through both of us. The double percussion (the muzzle blast and the bullet hitting a tree just 20 feet from us, close to where our dogs were trotting) scalded us with fear – another shot might follow. As we scrambled for cover, we saw a green SUV with a trailer hauling an ATV on the access road above us. The driver was wearing hunter orange. What was most disturbing about the incident is that the shooter just drove off after spotting us without even checking to see if anyone was hit. Thank goodness none in our party was injured or killed.
We searched the scene where the shot was fired. It was clear that the shooter did not even get out of the vehicle. We deduced that the intended target was likely our medium-size, wolf-like black dog who had been ahead of us. Mistaking our dog for a wolf, the shooter took aim and fired, fortunately missing the target. It is illegal to shoot from a vehicle, illegal to shoot protected wolves, and illegal to shoot on private property without permission. My haven is no longer safe.

    • Jon…this is the kind of stuff we also have to worry about. With people like T. Bridges stoking the fires and entertaining the idea that hunters should use Xylitol to poison wolves. has only escalated the situation further. I’m scared to think what’s going on in our forests right now. Is there an organized assault on wolves by the SSS crowd? Apparently the poacher that shot the two wolves in the North Fork and Olney wanted them to be found and garner publicity. This is just sick stuff and underscores why wolves cannot flourish without the protection of the ESA.

  4. Want to see Dire wolf skeletons? Try LA, of all places. The Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art stands next to the La Brea Tar Pits. Mammoths, Sabre took tigers, and Dire wolves have all been excavated from the pits. Their skeletons are in the Page Museum next to LOCMA.
