Judge Molloy Rules Against “Settlement”…

Good news Wolf Warriors. Judge Molloy has ruled against the settlement brokered by the ten plaintiffs of the original delisting lawsuit and the USFWS.

From the Wildlife News:

=====

Of course it’s not over yet but this is great news. I never believed Judge Molloy would stay his own decision. The wolves in the Northern Rockies have dodged another bullet. We have the budget battle to fight now but at least we can celebrate today!!

Thank you to the four non-settling groups for standing strong for wolves!! Click on their sites below and show your support!!

  1. I am so relieved that there are SOME people in this country that Wolf Advocates can count on. They are certainly too few in number. And now our battle continues, and we may be discouraged, we may be angry, we may be filled with sorrow that so much hatred is aimed at wolves, BUT we will never give up. Ever.

    • Rhonda…Judge Molloy has always delivered well reasoned decisions based on the law and not rumor and myth. I didn’t believe he would reverse himself and stay his own decision. I just wish he had delivered it after the budget battle because the anti wolf crowd is going to fight harder then ever to keep the Tester language in the the budget bill.

  2. I found this Montana News site today ( http://www.ktvq.com/news/wolf-delisting-bill-pending/) that say that the Budget bill delists wolves in Montana and Idaho. After reading this I read about Judge Molloy’s decision. I’d love to know what you make of this. I’ve been on a high since your first posting this morning. I hope the confusion clears. If it’s true let’s go to Montana and Idaho and steal all their wolves!

    • The sad thing Wiesy is that Judge Molloy’s decision was very welcome and good news but it was negated by the realization that the Tester language was still included in the budget bill. We have just a few days to send the Senate a message that the American people do not want the ESA tampered with to satisfy a loud, minority that’s being funded by the ranching and hunting lobbies. If this passes, wolves are done in the Northern Rockies. We will never have the wolf populations we have today, If they even survive they will be mere shadows on the landscape. This is an epic tragedy. So we must fight with everything we have this week and keep those Capital Switchboard numbers busy, calling Senators all day, every day.

      • Thanks for your reply, Today, I found another article from Billings Montana that reads “BILLINGS – Gray wolves in Montana and Idaho would be taken off the endangered list under the budget bill pending before Congress, two Western lawmakers said.
        Inclusion of the language to lift protections for wolves was confirmed by the offices of Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Idaho Republican Rep. Mike Simpson on Saturday.” from http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2011/apr/10/budget-would-delist-wolves/ Which sounds as if Tester got language into the Budget bill to just de-list wolves in Idaho and Montana not in the other states. That’s still unacceptable but do we know if the language includes all gray wolves in any state? Has anybody been able to read what ‘s actually in the bill?

      • Wisey…it’s the Tester delisting language which would remove ESA protections for wolves in Montana and Idaho with no judicial review, which I think is unconstitutional. Please call your Senators, we have to get the wolf delisting language out of the budget bill!!.

    How much do you want to bet a coward hunter/rancher was responsible for this?

  4. Its good to see those who will stand up for the law. Take a bow Western Watersheds Project, Friends of the Clearwater, Alliance for the Wild Rockies and Humane Society of the United States, you deserve a grand ovation for standing by your morals and sticking up for what is right when others willingly turned coat under the pressure.

    The people on Howling for Justice have demonstrated their strength and resolve countless times over the years; no matter the size of the task before them they pull back their sleeves, dig their heels in and push forward. It is inspiring. Justice will be done for the wild ones, wherever they are in this world.

    • John…it was a great victory and the four non-settling groups are true heroes but again we have our good news cut short by the realization that Tester somehow put the delisting language back in, unless it was never gone in the first place. In that case the press lied or was sorely misinformed after the so called “deal” was struck. They want to confuse people so they won’t protest the slaughter of wolves if the haters manage to sneak this language through.

  11. An immense win for planet Earth and mankind. They call it, the Great Interconnectedness. All life on Earth is interconnected to the all of Earth, especially, her wild, natural ecosystems, and the wild, native species that create, support, sustain, maintain and protect ecosystems/planet Earth. The wolf is not only a rivet holding spaceship Earth, altogether, he’s a special rivet. If all wild, native species are the rivets that hold spaceship Earth, altogether, the wolf is a vital keystone species, one of the rare few most vital and necessary species on Earth! The wolf is the driver and captain of spaceship Earth.
