  1. If only 1 in 10 wolf hunts are successful, I don’t see how the wolves are killing ALL of the caribou as the politicians say they are. That is a LME excuse – plain & simple they just do not want wolves around. They have a hard time accepting science & truth.

Thank you all who have already signed and keep spreading the word. I have a couple thoughts on how to get more people involved and will be working on my plans to do just that.

The letter is being sent to all elected officials today.

    • Terrence I put the petition up on Wolf Warriors and have a question from Lynne S. She states:
“Would appreciate someone explaining how the petition is delivered to decision makers and media. Most members of Congress will not accept email from out of their district.”

How is the petition going to be delivered to Congress and President? Thanks for your hard work on behalf of wolves.

      • That is a good question and in my haste to write this I hadn’t thought about it too much, but doing some research shows that it is difficult to get someone to take notice to this if you are outside of their district. My plan was just to go down the list of Congressmen and Senators and e-mail it, but if anyone has suggestions, I would like to hear them. I want to make sure this is getting noticed as much as possible. Thank you all for your support and signatures, and keep telling your friends, family, coworkers, and everyone you see on the street…

    • Terrence, if I could suggest that it is faxed to all Senators. I know for certain that Senator Murray’s office does not use paper correspondence, only emails as I have already been told when I wanted to fax my letter to her. As to whether they will even read your poignant letter,is subject to their aide’s discretion. It would be most effective if they actually had a physical copy,a tangible reminder of their inability to show true unbiased leadership and set a positive example by upholding integrity. A concept that they have proven time and time again, not be to capable of. But again, snail mail is tragically slow while processing it through the proper channels, also with no guarantee.

The entire situation is the epitome of personal/political agenda in it’s most stunning display. I applaud your efforts, although I question as to whether they really care about anything other than their own selfish whims.

Keep fighting the good fight. I know that I will.

  3. Go to the white house page to send to Obama, and keep posting wherever you can. Tester also has a site, but if you comment on it be prepared for a flood of nasty grams. I’m still getting them and it will coming up on the 3rd day. There’s a lot of misinformation out there which is causing the anti-wolfers to become a mob mentality. But the good news is that there is tremendous public outrage at the gray wolf being delisted. Check out the people who are pro wolf and see where they live. Many of those people are already writing and calling, so post it on your fb that you’re looking for people willing to contact the reps and senators within their districts. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. And it’s the quickest way I can see to get a message out. Hope this helps.

  4. No I don’t have access to a fax machine but if someone else does, please let me know. I was thinking about printing and mailing the letter to Obama, since his contact page for the white house only allows up to 2500 characters and this is over 11k characters. Hard to condense it but I may try. I just e-mailed it to the Gov. of Montana and both Senators, Sec of Interior, and the USFWS. I have been racking my brain all day to come up with other things to do and I’m thinking of contacting the ACLU to find out if there is anything they can do. I have read over the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the ESA, and a few other documents, looking for something that may help. If people want the hard copy, either in a Word Doc or a Plain Text format, they can send it to their state reps… let me know

  7. Thank you all for your kind words and show of support. I appreciate the offers to help fax this letter out to elected officials. First and foremost I want to get this to the president since his e-mail only allows a limited amount of space. Then beyond that, if people could fax to their state reps, I would be forever in your debt. I want the whole government to know how I feel. If you want a hard copy of the file, in any format, I will send it to you. Here is my junk e-mail address… TL8apxrx7@yahoo.com … send requests for the file and what format you would like (PDF or Plain Text or Word). I agree having a paper copy sent to our reps would probably be a lot better than e-mail.
I just got a response back from Sen. Baucus (D-MT) stating that he is proud to be able to “manage” wolves in Montana.
Current signatures on this letter are now at 276, with support coming in from across the globe.

  8. Terrence,
Hello. I am with the Care2 Petition site . We have access to this wonderful site, that has so much information. I copied the link for the petition -it is Fantastic ! The effort you put into it is really appreciated. The issue that we are having on Care2 -some people don’t want to sign because their is not a specified “Target”. Would you have an objection to making one with the Target as : Care2.com ? You then could combine with yours here on this site and Face book ? You know we need these signatures for the Wolves . And our members want a Petition with a “Target”. Our total membership is over 15 million -I don’t know the tool for the Animal site , but I know it is in the millions. I am not saying we can get that many signatures , but i know we can get more than we are now if you specify the “target’ , even if it is Pres. Obama, we just need a “Target” . We are as dedicated and passionate about wolves as y’all are. In fact my avatar is a female wolf and her pup. If you decide you will do this ,put the link on her and I’ll copy it so I can post it to Care2.
Thanks for your dedication and your help – in advance.

  10. In the late 80’s (1988 or 89) the organizatiion NARAL
fought against Idaho regarding a Woman’s right to have an abortion (had just become legal through Supreme Court)…& Idaho announced they would not acknowlege the law for Idaho women. NARAL organized a ban on Idaho potatoes…it took 6 months, but Idaho backed down! I want to start the same issue…Ban Idaho Beef (except I understand there are a FEW RANCHERS WHO HAVE TAKEN A STAND TO USE other METHODS TO PROTECT THEIR CATTLE i.e., sheep dogs, riders to patrol, etc; We should not ban their beef…need to find out who they are).
I am a retired marketing professor from Santa Fe, NM..
we have similar problems with most ranchers…I also
lobby in DC to put pressure on President Obama to declare the Arctic Refuge a Monument (no drilling ever) he alone can do this.

Is anyone interested in helping me…
    (1) I need to know the names of the ranches/ranchers in Montana/Idaho that are against killing the wolves.
    (2) I know the following are the businesses against
the wolves: Most ranchers, Meat supplyers, sportsman,
    wannabe ranchers, taxidermist?, who else?

I am willing to make some serious waves & finance it,
but I need info, not money. We in NM face the same thing with our Mexican Wolves..imagine they will be next on the Senate/House bill if this Bill is allowed
to protect the killers of our Gray Wolves.
I want to stop this legally.A ban on Idaho products
    will do it.

    • Sandra,

I live in Montana and have heard all the complaints from every group of ranchers and hunters and even private citizens in the state and our neighbors from Idaho and Wyoming. You are asking for names of ranches in the area that support wolves? I honestly don’t know a single one because they refuse to let themselves be known in the ranching community to avoid harassment and ridicule from the other people in the business. There are people who speak out, but always stay anonymous. I will see if I can contact some people who might have an idea who would be supporters in the ranching industry. As far as sportsmen, the same thing applies. The fanatical rantings of the anti-wolf crowd is making people either afraid of them or afraid of the possible “shunning” in the community so they always stay behind the scenes.

I will do some more research and see what I come up with, but in the mean time, I urge you to stay in contact and maybe Nebeki can put you in contact with me through my personal e-mail so we can stay on the same page a lot easier.

        http://www.madeinmontanausa.com/ProDir.asp

This is a great place to start in finding products and companies to boycott in Montana. A lot of the ranches listed here claim their commitment to the diversity of the environment but don’t be fooled, these are the loudest voices of the anti-wolf crowd.

      • Terrence…I’ll pass your contact info onto Sandra since you’ve given me permission. Boycotts can be a great tool if organized properly. At this point it certainly can’t hurt to give it a go.

    • Hi Sandra,
We have a problem with disclosure in the Northern Rockies, I think Terrance explained it pretty well. Very few ranchers are actually practicing pro active animal husbandry. It’s very hard to get people in the ranching community to speak out on wolves and where they stand because of the intimidation factor. There is so much hostility against wolf advocates, you will rarely see them speaking out in public because of fear for their safety or their animals safety. This is truly a war zone when it comes to wolves. It’s also hard to get people to commit to a boycott. I remember when the wolf hunts started in 2009. Friends of Animals called for a boycott of Idaho potatoes, Howling for Justice did as well. But the problem is in order for boycotts to work people have to stick to them. I’m not saying it wouldn’t work but it takes a level of commitment. I really didn’t see any push back from the potato boycotts in 09. The hunts continued and wolves died, over 500 to be exact.

I think you know what I’m talking about. If you’re from New Mexico you’ve experienced the hostility that’s directed toward wolves. New Mexico has a tiny wolf population and haters can’t even tolerate those numbers. Now magnify that to 1500, the venomous attitude in the Northern Rockies is palpable.

I’m encouraged you want to take this on and I will certainly support you in this endeavor. Terrance is also willing to help and has given me permission to pass his email address to you.
