Thanks for you support everyone and thanks to Gary for being such a knowledgable great host. Please give generously to all three organizations who brought the lawsuit to challenge the wolf delisting rider on Constitutional grounds. Alliance for the Wild Rockies, Friends of the Clearwater and WildEarth Guardians.

I’m back on the Wild Clearwater Country radio show today, Wednesday, May 18, with their wonderful host Gary Macfarlane. We’ll be talking wolves, wolves, wolves.

This will be my second appearance on the show. I want to personally thank Gary for inviting me again.

We’ll be talking about the plight of the Lolo zone Idaho wolves, the 2010 National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) numbers. which shows predators are responsible for less than 1% of cattle losses in this country, aerial gunning, the lawsuit filed by Friends of the Clearwater, Alliance for the Wild Rockies and WildEarth Guardians, wolf hunts, what effect killing wolves has on their social structure and much more.

I have to admit I was a little more nervous this time for some reason but i think it’s because we had to jump around a little. I’m so glad the NASS numbers came out and we can show that wolves are doing absolutely nothing wrong, their puny little livestock depredations compared to the real culprit, respiratory illness which takes over a million cows a year. Heck vultures kill more cows then wolves.

Ask these fish and game agencies why don’t they count the wolves that are killed each year by wildlife services as part of the wolf hunt and also, grill these people and tell them that it’s wrong to extend wolf hunts into the spring where wolves are denning and giving birth to wolf pups. The problem is these fish and game agencies only seem to listen to hunters, the ones who buy the tags to kill animals. They don’t seem to care about what the non-hunters who love watching wildlife have to say!!!

      Thank you Jon. Unfortunately very few wolf advocates show up at these meetings because they feel intimidated by all the hostility from the antis. It’s been this way for years, way before wolves were even an issue. I do think it’s changing though, people are so fed up they are willing to put up with the grief if it means showing support for wolves.

    What is also of interest are the events between 1935 to 1968 when “park rangers find it necessary to shoot and export elk and other prey species to combat overpopulation.” Made me think… is there any way we can have wolves exported to any areas in need of the wolf’s expertise in bringing dire balance to their eco system… instead of killing them? This would only be a temporary fix, but it may also be an option to give us more time. Today I also received a petition in an email asking Senators Udall & Bennet to bring back wolves to Colorado. In fact, it was from Wild Earth Guardians.

      I find absolutely outrageous that the wildlife in America is treated as if it were a mere commodity or the property of a minority able to do as they please. This is disastrous as these people not only mean harm to these animals, but will also ignore any scientific facts that might be in the way of their agenda/profits, potentially causing a lot of damage to the ecosystems they are interfering with.

    Changing the subject a bit… The link below is for an article published today by The Guardian newspaper over here in the UK. It is about Bob Hansen’s Wild Coast Project in Canada studying the interactions between humans and predators (wolves and cougars in this case) and the influence that humans have in the behaviour of animal species.

      Thank you for sharing that amazing article. I was especially moved by this paragraph:

      “Last month, Bolivia announced that it will enshrine the fundamental rights of nature in law. In Bolivian law all natural entities – plant or animal, river or mountain – will enjoy equal rights to those of humans, including the right to life or to exist, the right not to be polluted and the right not to be genetically altered.
