Judge Molloy Upholds “Wolf Delisting Rider”! Horrible News!!

I’m away from home and have to report this terrible news. Judge Molloy upheld the “wolf delisting rider” via budget bill.

Part of the ESA died tonight along with the future of gray wolves in the Northern Rockies. I can barely type this, it’s so heartbreaking.

Judge Upholds Wolf Law Passed By Congress

LEWIS & CLARK COUNTY

By The Associated Press

POSTED: 6:08 pm MDT August 3, 2011

HELENA, Mont. — A federal judge has reluctantly ruled to uphold a congressional budget provision that removed federal protections for the Northern Rockies gray wolf outside of Wyoming.
U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy says that binding precedent by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals requires him to rule against a constitutional challenge of the rider passed by Congress earlier this year.
Molloy wrote in his order Wednesday that without that precedent, he would have ruled unconstitutional the provision that strips wolves of their endangered status in Montana, Idaho and parts of Washington, Oregon and Utah.
Molloy says he believes the way Congress passed the provision undermines and disrespects the fundamental idea of the rule of law.

  1. I don’t even have words for the way I feel right now. I guess I put all my hopes on Judge Molloy’s decision because I believed he would rule in favor of wolves.

What is our next step – where do we go from here?

  3. You have got to be kidding. Is this a waking nightmare and when will we wake up…when will it end? I was afraid this might happen, and even if Molloy had ruled in our favor, I was certain that the opposition would find a way to pull some rancid monkey out of the ether to subvert any attempt to right this terrible wrong. If we don’t have something to HOWL about now….then we never will!!!!!!!!

This is not the America I can be proud of, I thought the height of injustice was when they passed the budget bill, rewarding miscreant behaviors, setting a downward trend in motion, and now it’s worse than reliving that hell. But this really cuts deep, I have never been more ashamed to be a member of the same humanity as those responsible or an American than in this moment when I am caught between worlds….between tears and utter disbelief. If this is what we have become, spineless and soulless in the same breath, bought and sold to the highest lobby. then whatever the topic, we are all damned to hell. Shame on President Obama, shame on Congress and shame on anyone who finds victory in this compound tragedy.

I don’t know what else we can do but make Idaho and all other states involved in this senseless bloody morass really feel the sting of the suffering they will bring to the wolves, and that will be the heartiest boycott of biblical proportions.

You’re right Nabeki, a many deaths this night. The ESA, the wolves, justice, honor , principal , integrity….fill in the blank. We will never allow the voices of our wolves to go quietly into that dark night.

    I am HOWLING MAD!!!!

SOMEWHERE THERE NEEDS TO BE A ‘SOMEONE’ WHO HAS THE GUTS OR IS WILLING TO TAKE A TEA SPOON OF CEMENT, TO TOUGHEN UP & MAKE SOME DECISSIONS THAT NO MATTER HOW UNPOPULAR WITH THE MASSESS, IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO, FOR THE WOLVES. WHEN ARE WE HUMANS GOING TO STOP PLAYING GOD WITH EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING WE LIKE ON THIS PLANET? WHAT OTHER DISASTERS CAN WE ADD TO THE LIST, WHEN WE DO THIS SELF RIGHTEOUS CRAP. WE’VE ALREADY EXPERIENCED, WARS, POLLUTION, POVERTY, EXTINCTION….HAVENT WE ALL YET LEARNT THAT THERE IS A FLOW ON EFFECT WHEN WE TRY TO CONTROL NATURE…WITH THE ANIMALS BEING THE ONES WHO ULTIMATELY PAY THE GREATEST PRICE…WITH THEIR LIVES.

Greed, my friends is what it comes down to & hatred. I can’t imagine what those poor wolves will go through. The more I think about it the angrier I get. My blood just boils …… I’ll tell you that my friends.
Nabeki, I can only imagine how upset you are ~ 😦

    • We can still protest this. Please go to Howl Across America and join a rally or organize one Ramses. We can’t allow them to get away with this. We need publicity and a full page ad in the NYTimes to let America know what’s going on. We can’t give up. If we say nothing things will only get worse. I know everyone is devastated but there is still the appeal process.

  10. what a sad day for wolves. we all know we can’t appeal to the bloodthirst hunters but is there anything else we can do? sigh, why do so called ‘humans’ get such a kick out of trophy hunting?no matter what, in this case science has proven that wolves are not the savage beasts that are portrayed by those desiring their extinction. wolves are at the end of the line just because ‘money talks’ louder than reality

  12. Today sees the end of wolf recovery in the Northern Rockies. Judge Molloy was our only hope. In my local paper this morning it says Wyoming will get its plan to shoot wolves on sight. I am stunned that after only 16 years this great conservation story will be over with massive wolf bloodshed and ecosystem destruction. I doubt the wolves in Yellowstone will even survive for very long now.

MONEY MONEY MONEY, that’s the travesty. If man wasn’t so greedy the world and all it’s animals would be a far better place. Man is his own worst enemy. Thank God I won’t be around when he’s finished messing with the world and there is just nothing left. Sad day.

  16. I am a paralegal and with my limited knowledge believe an appeal can be filed right away, and with the judges enocuragment I think it might work. In the meantime they can probably get an injunction from the same judge halting the hunt till the appeal is heard. Please…attorneys that filed this…let us know!

I am truly outraged and so upset about this, What a shame and disgrace this country has become to allow the killing of any wildlife that have just as much right to be here as humans, I am so sick of the greedy people making all the rules, Where is the justice for the wolves they all going to be killed because of rich ranchers and stupid hunters by any means, Pure disgusting, Howling for Justice for our wolves.

  18. I am very disgusted at this as all others on here are as well I’m sure. We must continue fighting for our wolves and our wildlife. This war is far from over. in the mean time, everyone on here please send an email to the washington fish and wildlife game commission and let them know you want 15 breeding pairs of wolves in WA. Hunters have been sending emails saying they only want 8 breeding pairs because all they care about are their hunting opportunities of deer and elk.

commission@dfw.wa.gov is the email. please send your email letting them know that 15 breeding pairs of wolves is the way to go. Ask for more breeding pairs if you want.

  19. This is really horrible, a day of sorrow. Our voices are being discarded because of a blood thirsty minority that gets all the representation because they can afford it, we can’t. I tried so hard to get someone to speak for wolves at our conference June 24-26 http://www.AFSConference.org but no one seemed interested.

  20. I am a hunter, not a wolf hating lunatic. I do not want all of the wolves killed. Neither do the vast majority of hunters. What we want is a controlled number of wolves just like we have a controlled number of deer, elk, and other game animals. Each state has a set wolf population they must sustain. States already do this with deer and elk. If you have looked lately the deer and elk herds are doing well. A big reason for this is the money generated by hunting. All of the doom and gloom is not necessary. Not all of the wolves will be killed. This ruling ensures that wolves as well as deer, elk, and moose will be around for future generations to enjoy. Lets not forget Teddy Roosevelt is on of the greatest conservationists tjis country has seen and he was a hunter.

    • Jim..I know you are trying to be reasonable, unfortunately you are not in charge. The people running the show are preparing a wolf slaughter. In Idaho they want to take the wolf population down to 150 or lower from a 1000 wolves, 1/3 of whom are pups some, just four months old. Killing puppies is animal cruelty pure and simple. Wolves are not deer and elk. They think and plan as one entity. Wolves are very intelligent. They are hunters, wanderers, teachers terrific parents. They bond for life unless a mate is killed or dies. The wholesale slaughter that is being planned in Idaho and Wyoming is wrong. They are talking about running wolves over with snowmobiles in Wyoming. This is sick and indefensible. I’m sorry but the very thing wolf advocates were trying to prevent has come to pass. We always knew they wanted to take the population down so low that wolves would be mere ghosts on the landscape. Now it’s come true. I hope the hunting community is happy with slaughtering puppies. Look at your own dogs and and see if you could shoot one in the gut and not be sickened. That’s what is waiting for wolves and much, much worse.

      • All is good and wolves are here to stay, right Jim?
Spare us the condescending pseudo-compassionate b.s. because we’ve heard it all before dozens of times over.

Theodore Roosevelt was a prolific animal killer, killing hundreds of animals purely for his selfish entertainment, he did NOTHING to stop the wolf from being exterminated the first time. Some conservationist. Also don’t get all high and mighty with the MANDATORY TAX on hunting as if it were a charitable donation. Charity is to give without thought of any reward.
I may be sounding very unreasonable by saying this but over the past few months this situation has been FAR from reasonable and to have someone come here telling us that all is fine and we should all, in so many words, give up and go home is an outright insult.

    • Jim, I applaud your commenting here when it is obvious you are in the minority. however, killing wolves is wrong. you say the prey populations are ok now. how will they be ‘ok’ when the natural predator/prey relationship is skewed??? Wolves are pack animals that work as a unit. kill any in that pack and there is chaos until/unless a new pack hierarchy is formed. killing adults and juveniles in the field leaves defenseless pups to die a horrible death. I firmly believe this open season on wolves is strickly to benefit the pockets of politicians and so they can ‘proudly’ display their bloody winnings. taxidemists are going to benefit. I’m sure they are glad and sad. glad as they will get to prepare hides, heads and sad that the wolves are paying for this

    • How many times have you heard hunters tell you wolves are here to stay? Quite often I must say and I still don;t buy it especially if it comes from a hunter;’s mouth. I’d the majority of hunters in ID,MT, WY, ETC do not want wolves in their state eating the prey they feel only belongs to them. I don’t consider Teddy Roosevelt a conservationist, He killed exotic wildlife for sport, so he will never get my respect. He did not care about animals, only killing them. Anyone on here can read about hos views of the wolf. His views of wolves back then are very much similar to the views that hunters of today have against the wolf. I’ve seen some disgusting and vile things written by hunters against the wolf.

  21. Jim, I agree with Ellen. There are way to MANY wolf haters in the western states. It’s as if they still live in the seventeen, eighteen hundred’s. They won’t listen to sound science. They are like little children that have there hands on there ears, hollering la,la,la,la,la. I’m NOT going to listen to you or your science. As Ellen say’s it is to benefit the pockets & seats of the politicians.

Wolves have no easy life in the wild, nor does any wild animal. When you have the hunting capabilities that man has now ….. no animal has a chance. None what so ever. Man is greedy & always will be.

However, I am extremely upset and angry that this had to be the result! Now our wolves will be in the hands of the anti-wolf people that want to kill all wolves! How could this of happened?!?!?!

  24. What you get from Idaho is…”This is our state, and these are our wolves, and we will do what we want with them.” They don’t realize that Idaho did not create the wolves. Somebody by the name of God did. Idaho is only one piece of His world. It is not for them to decide what lives and what dies….especially when it comes to them making a buck off of the suffering and death of our friends, God’s creation, the wolves. What a bunch of total jerks. It would not surprise me in the least to hear banjos strumming as soon as I crossed the line into a potato field!

    • Yes Anne, I’ve come across that attitude. What they don’t realize is those are America’s wolves not Idaho’s. One of the biggest mistakes is releasing wolves in Idaho. Now they’re trapped there with hunters and trappers crawling the woods trying to kill them for absolutely no reason.
