      Mr Burt didn’t hunt wolves because it was “good for the elk”, like so many others he hunted them because it was good for HIM, especially since he missed out on the great “rush” of killing a wolf last year. Well now he has done his part to save the elk…and now he can go back and kill the elk he helped to save too.

      “It dropped like a pancake” “If I would have had five wolf tags, I probably could have killed five wolves.”

      No doubt that such a tall tale will work up the froth and draw other hunters in, which is most likely the intention. What we really need to “thin out” is the kind of mentality this man possesses.

      It doesn’t take very long for that to sink in…

    I know this isn’t about protecting cattle. More like keeping the coffers full.
    They just don’t let up. Amerindians. Wolves. But surely what you’re doing here, what people like George Wuerthner is doing makes a difference. I want to believe that. And then I feel.. In my dreams. Like trying to shame McGuinty out of a wolf killing contest. My father’s people were Loyalist. I feel like I need to atone. What a bad deal. Instead of a nation full of Sioux we’ve got sports hunters and Gulf Wars.

      There is not a cattle emergency, cow losses to wolves are miniscule. This is trumped up wolf demonizing. Wolves were responsible for 75 cow losses in Idaho out of 2.2 million cows (2010). Ranchers lost 80,000 plus cows to non predation.. We have to go on the offense with this. These are myths drummed up by the ranching lobby.

How many positive articles about wolves have you read lately? It’s almost always wolves are killing livestock or wolves are hurting prey populations, when they don’t do their job and look at the facts, which do not support any of these claims. If people put the squeeze on tourism in those three states, believe me they will feel it.       This is what needs to happen. We have to make them realize wolf hunters and elk hunters can’t generate the kind of revenue wildlife-watching-tourists bring into those states. In the GYA alone, wolves generate over $35,000.000 in revenue.

      This is one way we are going to fight the wolf hunts besides protests or rallies. What is happening in Montana, Idaho and soon to be Wyoming is wrong on so many levels. It has to be opposed.
