Idaho Wolf Trapping Season Starts November 15…..

warning graphic videos

Idaho’s wolf trapping season opens November 15 and runs through March 31, 2012. It will be allowed  in the Lolo, Selway, Panhandle, Dworshak-Elk City and Middle Fork zones.

I cannot express to you in words how I feel about trapping wolves. This is the very torture that was responsible for wolves’ Western extermination.  My heart breaks daily when I check the number of  wolves slaughtered in the Idaho and Montana hunts. The Montana wolf archery season is particularly horrific to me BUT nothing is going to decimate wolves like trapping.

The blame for this tragedy lays solely at the feet of those  81 Senators who voted to delist wolves via budget rider and the President, who signed the bill into law, with the wolf rider intact.

“Animals caught in leg-hold traps will endure a slow and excruciating death. Some chew off their own leg in an attempt to escape. Others may freeze or bleed to death before the trapper returns. Those who don’t will be strangled, stomped or bludgeoned. The traps used kill not only their intended victims, but also injure or kill endangered species and domestic companion animals.”

  1. I am simply left short for words to describe my horror and disgust for this kind of hunt – or should I say: MURDER? Hunters are the lowest of the lowest!

  2. I fight with these people all the time. They say all kinds of evil things. Some will even say they will shoot them in the gut just to watch them suffer. I do not understand how one animsl could be hated so much.

  3. How would these trappers like to be in a trap like the wolves? They would not. So why trap these animals when they do check the traps for some time.
Dear God, I have asked and pleaded for You to stop this cruelty of the wolves. Please step in and help these wolves from harm and a horrible death. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

  5. Governor C.L.”Butch” Otter P.O. Box 83720 Boise,Idaho 83720 208-334-2100, Ron Gillette of The Anti-Wolf Coalition of Idaho, and the Ranchers along with the politicans are to blame for the killing of Wolves.
Governer Brian Schweitzer of Montana P.O.Box 20080 Helena, Montana 406-444-3111 is also to blame. The FWGS are also to blame. Because they want the wolves killed too.
The only way to stop this is to write to them and keep bugging them. We all need to bug them. I have written them all.
If we boycott these states and do not buy the products that each state produces, like Idaho Potatoes and so forth.
If write to the Idaho and Montana Tourists Department, maybe we will get through to them. Telling them that we will tell them we will not come to visit their states. We will tell others not to visit until the wolf killings stop.

  7. This is barbaric beyond words. I volunteer at a wolf sanctuary, and I do not understand the hatred toward these animals. I have given up eating beef because it is the ranchers who are behind the exterminate-the-wolves movement. I gave up anything made of wool for the same reason. I would love to go back to Glacier National Park in Montana, but will not do so for as long as the state-sponsored slaughter of wolves continues. Idaho potatoes? They stay on the shelf in the grocery store.

  8. There has to be hope. James’ poem is a true story. I have a copy of Beside the Hemlock Garden. I had permission from him to use this poem in work I did years ago. I’m sure he’d want to share it with anyone and everyone on this page. Derrick Jensen writes of talking to the stars. His childhood should have produced a psychotic killer. Instead he found a surrogate family and a home in Nature. He talked and listened to all his relatives. Hunters on these videos never talked to the stars. They are no true hunters. They are cowards and murderers. My first rush of feeling was pure hate.
I resist. I think of timeless time and of Earth beautiful and small in space. I call to mind the work of Robert Firestone, Trauma Bond, and of R.D. Laing The Politics of Experience. It was at Howling ForJustice that I learned of Jensen’s book A Language Older Than Words. I think of what I have so far read. Hate becomes pure grief. We need laws. If parents are unfit to raise a child then society must set limits, govern parents. In that wolves have a great advantage over men.
    A Trapper’s True Story.

    I once was a trapper
    and where I made footsteps
I echoed a shadow of blood.

    I gripped every season with
my bare hands and did what I
    had to do, sometimes more,

though I knew I would die
    and lie naked underground,
my skin like every winter’s ice.

One day, as I checked my
lines, I walked into a clearing
    where morning unveiled amazing
pure light. I knew myself more

than alive, and that very instant
I saw the mother fox in my trap.

She’d been nursing her kits, four
of them, while my jagged vice
    cut into her flesh to the bone;

she’d been crazy with fear and pain,
I could tell, for there was much
    blood splattered all around.

And as I walked toward the vixen,
she raised her head to watch me
come through the clearing. And she

gently picked up each one of her
young by the neck, one at a time,
and lay it close to her breath
and licked her milk from its face,

and snapped its neck. She did that
to all four before I could reach her.

And as she watched me over her
newly born, over her dead she had
saved from my hands, I knew
I would never trap again. And I

never have, though I killed her
with one bullet as she lay back
waiting to die. I buried the mother

and her fur, and tonight, in the
warming nighttime of spring, I wonder
if ever I’ll sleep until morning again.

  10. IT IS SOMETHING THAT EVIL PEOPLE DO TO GET EVEN WITH THE WOLVES, OR SO THEY WANT PEOPLE TO THINK THEY ARE.
WOLVES ARE NOT THE ENEMY. IT IS THE RANCHERS, POLITICIANS AND GOVERNORS. RON GILLETTE OF THE ANTI-WOLF COALITION OF IDAHO WANTING THE WOLVES KILLED BY ANY MEANS.
UNTIL WE CAN GET IT THROUGH THEIR THICK SKULLS , NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE.
STOP KILLING THE WOLVES OR ELSE YOU WILL REGRET IT, WHEN OTHER PREDATORS MOVE IN AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THEM, OR KILL THEM TOO.
WHY DOES THE WOLVES ACT THEY WAY THEY DO? THEY HUNT TO FEED THE PACK AND TO TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER. THEY TAKE CARE OF THEIR PACKS BETTER THAN SOME PEOPLE TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN FAMILIES.
WOLVES FIGHT TO THE DEATH TO PROTECT THEIR PACK. THEY MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN THE PACK IS SAFE FROM HARM.

Please, just stop the senseless killing! There is NO reason for this. Whatever you do, STOP this massacre NOW!!!

I cry myself to sleep every nite. Why is this happening in this Day and Age?

    • This is what I have been telling people. But some think I am stupid for wanting to save the wolves. Trapping is the worst way of killing a wolf or any other animal.
Why, because the hunters do not come back to check the traps for a long time and the poor animals chew their legs off or they die from loss of blood and hunger and thirst.

  13. These kids are the worst mentality. “clean up the overpopulation”…they are trying to create more prey (moose, etc.) for them to hunt. Disgusting. Uneducated. They think they are doing a good thing which is what is the most deplorable. People need a lot of education to understand why we need these top predators.

    • Leslie…these “thrill killers” are fulfilling their lust for hurting something. This is a wolf holocaust, a pogrom, a bloodbath, take your pick. It’s legalized animal cruelty. The best thing we can do right now is network and find a way to get this story out of the Northern Rockies to the rest of America. We need more pictures of the carnage as awful as it sounds. People must see what’s going on here.

  14. I read something last night from a 2008 book on Yellowstone Wolves/ Cat Urbigkit and husband a lawyer husband/wife team who want/wanted to ‘preserve integrity of local species’, and who write from a very complex in fighters position on local species versus translocated gray wolves. Thier talking about Wyoming. Urbigkit offers lots of criticism of FWS and plenty of empathy for ranchers who are nevertheless feedlot feeding elk over winter to keep no.s up for hunters thereby habituating wolves to their range, and who leave out poisoned stock (no mention in book) graze on public land, but speak at congressional hearings with tears in their eyes for lost profits, while every year millions of cows in three states die from disease especially on finishing feed lots (that’s lifestyle for cows) not mentioned, nor that in general, ranchers who want to preserve their lifestyle (nostalgia for the range rider/great open spaces now empty of all but cows/mythos) want no responsibility in tending their stock. (that’s their lifestyle) and so make no move to electric fencing. It works in Alberta/Sheep Growers Association loves it.

I can and will verify first of the week through a contact online but if anyone knows about reimbursement tied to delisting/trophy hunting status please post, that is, if Wyoming ranchers are reimbursed for wolf takes (only) when wolves are delisted and designated as trophy game. And is that true of Idaho and Montana?
…pg 310..With delisting wolves in northwestern Wyoming are managed by state officials as a trophy game species. That means WGF will manage wolves as a huntable species, respond to livestock conflicts, and proved for compensation in areas where wolves are designated as trophy game.
