    • You are so welcome Agnes, I wish I could bring you better news but the Ninth Circuit is due to rule on the emergency injunction to stop the hunts very soon. We can only hope they will listen to our pleas and stop this massacre.

The wolf is being used as a scapegoat by these hateful people. I really don’t think it’s about wolves, it’s a culture war. They don’t like environmentalists and are taking their revenge against the wolves. But we can’t give up no matter what. The wolves are alone and need us more then ever. They are suffering the tortures of the damned right now, we are their only voice.

I wish this evil would end very soon. In JESUS’ Name I pray.

    • I’m with you Barbara! Keep your prayers focused upon the hearing for overturning the Tester Rider that took the wolves off the endangered Species list and wording that prevents any recourse. This in itself I believe is illegal as well as a seperation of powers. So, pray and meditate for the rider to be overturned and send many blessings to the ninth circut court panel that is hearing the case on Monday the 8th at 9:oo am. Send blessings to the lawers giveing oral arguments who represent the Alliance of the Wild Rockies. Also send blessings to the Secretary Salazar that he may grow to understand the value wolves play in his ecological world.
Thank God for creating these wonderful beings, the wolves. Bless their lives and may they live strong!

Stop the FGWS, Governors, Politicians and others who are behind this evil of doing away with the wolves.
These are Your Creatures and they need Your protection. so stop the evil that is going on against the wolves and other animals.

    • Gitte..these are hateful, hateful people. Unfortunately in a perfect storm, Obama allowed the anti wolf forces to gain power over the wolves. We all knew what would happen if the states were ever allowed to “manage/kill” wolves. We should write to the Democrat Senators who allowed this to happen and let them know what is going on in the Northern Rockies and how their vote contributed to this massacre of our wolves. They are despicable and need to be votes out of office.

  7. How sad. How heartbreaking. The governmental mob has no idea that many people’s souls are linked with the wolf’s, and when one dies, we feel it, and it rips out hearts out as we die a little more too. I’ve been fighting for them for over 40 years. My best friend was a timber wolf, Thor. I saved his life, and he had a chance to save mine. That was many years ago, but I can still feel that spiritual attachment. It’s as strong as ever. Defenders has shown these farmers how to live in harmony with our brothers and sisters, but these hunters/farners are too blood thirsty to even care. Guess it makes them feel like men to kill something defenseless against the gun. They don’t even realize that the wolf is the least aggressive of all the predators out there and how necessary he is to God’s plan, our Eco system. They keep the herds moving so they don’t over graze. They keep the herds strong because they mainly bring down the old and the sick. Other species have a chance to thrive if the wolf leaves anything behind. Trees grow like the Aspen, Cotton wood where they haven’t been in years. Songbirds came back in an area that were absent for a century…and this was all because of the wolf, when he was first reintroduced to the Rockies. Now they are going back to square one..either because the hunters are blood thirsty, or just can’t differ their brain from a gun. Somehow, some way, we have to get the wolves back on the Endangered List, quickly. Please….don’t give up on boycotting, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska.

    • Anne, very beautifully put. We have to keep fighting and never give up on the wolves There are tremendous forces aligned the wolf. The three wolf states are run like giant game farms, keeping ungulate numbers high and killing off predators. That is how fish and game make their money. They are not interested in facts or trophic cascades or the value of apex predators. Millions of sharks are killed every year for shark fin soup. Does it make any sense? No but it continues to happen.

The wolves have been thrown under the bus by the Obama admin and I will never let him off the hoof for this because if he hadn’t delisted wolves in the first place these brutal hunts would not be taking place. I wouldn’t vote for him if he was the last person on earth. It makes me physically ill to think of the carnage his administration has wrought not only to wolves but our wild horses. Yes, the boycotts are a very powerful tool that people should take seriously, especially a boycott of Yellowstone because Wyoming wants to slaughter most of their wolves and leave them to live in a virtual hell on earth, treating them like cockroaches and allowing them to be killed by any means at any time of the year in 90% of the state. I’m doing a post on the Wyoming situation I hope to have finished soon. We need to start writing and speaking out against the “Wyoming Plan” before it’s too late for those wolves. The USFWS is very much to blame for allowing Wyoming to take this stand and we need to expose them for it.

  8. this isn’t the answer for the wild wolves but I do have a question. Are there enough captive wolves in programs to ensure we don’t lose all of them? these sick, vicious trophy hunters and paid government killers are trying diligently to wipe the free wolf from any/all natural habitats. our fight to save the wild ones must continue but I do feel we must have a ‘back up’ plan to make sure we don’t lose this species like we have so many others.

    • Ellen….There are many captive wolves who are ambassadors for their species but if we eliminate wolves in the wild it will be the death of our wild places. Our ecosystem needs apex predators to maintain balance, I know that the next target will be the grizzly bear. They want abolish our predators and have elevated numbers of ungulates for hunters to kill. The sad thing is hunters are just a tiny segment of the population yet they are robbing America of their wolves. This story has to make it out of the Northern Rockies, we need publicity concerning the hunts and the slaughter that is going on. We have to continue to fight for the wolves with everything we have.

      • I only meant as a last resort – breeding of captive wolves. the fight must go on to stop killing our apex predators just for the almighty dollar. It has always baffled me that trophy hunters kill off the best of any species then wonder why they are having a more difficult time finding good ‘trophies’! man, contrary to popular belief, is NOT the top hunter in the world – they are however the top KILLERS. how one can say shooting wolfs (or other species) from the air, or ‘hunting’ animals raised in captivity to be shot in canned hunts, is sport????? I hope the courts do grant an emergency injunction against the wolf killers. this is a plaintive cry at best but since most science has proven that predators of any sort are NOT the cause of livestock and/or ungulate deaths how can that still be the ‘poison’ that the killers use????

  9. I feel the same for my wolf bred dog of many years ago. He guarded my path as we walked the barrens. He went first, always, head down stopping to point to a crevice or a burrow opening on the rock face. When strangers came to my home he quietly sat by my side. His sire was malamute. He weighed a hundred and forty pounds. We played so when he was young. Once he barreled nearly two hundred yards towards me, leaping up from still many yards away and caught the skin of my neck between his incisors like a kiss. After all these years it’s still painful and a joy to remember. Lucky are those who love wolves.

    • Wolves which are raised by humans make good pets. They are loyal and if you are allergic to pet dandruff, wolves have fur no hair.
If you are allergic to cats or dogs, you will not be allergic to wolves fur.
They are good with children and are very protective of their pack which are you and your family.
A woman who bought a wolf for a pet, she had a 6′ fence with a guard on the top to keep out intruders. She was power walking and she heard dogs barking and she went into a fetal position and screamed. Her wolf jumped the fence and she heard sounds of growling and she turned around and her wolf saved her from being attacked by some big dogs. The dogs were not hurt, but ran away and never tried to attack her again.

      • Nov 8 16:17, no word as yet about the ruling.
I’m unable to view the video I’m sorry to say. Probably something local.
A letter can have its own life. It would be impossible to write, compile rather, a letter like this without a century of science and advocacy. I feel a bit overwhelmed by other people’s work. I find things online almost without work.To give background I’m learning background. I work at work, when not at work. I dream formatting and wake up with some change in mind. That doesn’t mean the letter will be anything more than a fizzle. I’m involved. We all like hope.
A while ago I realized I could have no effect on the court ruling so what was I doing. There was the question, what did I want recipients to do? Approach to land and environment is at the heart of this. Wildlife is not a private resource. If wildlife can be said to be owned, it is held in public trust implying obligations that extend ultimately to the land. Land Ethic. Oglala Lakota knew this and more. But the miserable grasping confused European culture that settled in here must try so hard to get anything right and then fail.
My letter is to interested parties, a letter in principle. Its purpose, to end sport hunting, trapping, bow and arrow hunting, poisoning and lethal controls by ranchers in Yellowstone, It’s not all that dense. It’s illustrated and back grounded. Licenced people (with licenced guns) may hunt for food not trophy, misrepresentation deemed a felony; ranchers may not hold their spurious interests above the commonweal. A copy will go to the Minister of Environment of the EU. I’m meeting with a friend, a long time activist this weekend to go over it.
Then endorsement and hopefully involvement of Born Free and the HSUS. I think it would be good if you reviewed the content. Is there an address I can send an attachment to you?
        1. Yellowstone is the world’s largest intact wilderness environment, a laboratory for research and a world heritage site. Management must pass to the federal level.
        2. What on earth is Baucus doing with drones? Is he serious? or is he just trying it on to make pro wolf people squirm? I checked the Baucus story just now (because it’s so incredible) and for my effort I found what the letter needs now. Bruskotter and others may have the tools. Licenced people with licenced guns may hunt for food not trophy at specified times. Misrepresentation on that score should be a felony.

Citation: Bruskotter, J. T., S. A. Enzler, and A. Treves. 2011. Rescuing Wolves from Politics: Wildlife as a Public Trust Resource. Science 333:1828-1829

        Wildlife News
Jeremy Bruskotter On September 29, 2011 · 31 Comments ….In the most recent issue of Science my colleagues and I argue that the wildlife trust doctrine (a branch of the broader public trust doctrine) may provide a legal means for interested citizens to compel states to conserve controversial species such as wolves. We argue that this common law doctrine fills the gap in statutory law that is left when a species is removed from federal and/or state protections. We use the case of gray wolves (Canis lupus) in the northern Rocky Mountains to illustrate how the gap in statutory law can negatively impact a species. What follows is a brief summary of a few of the paper’s main themes.
“The power of the state over wildlife stems from the notion of “sovereign ownership” or “ownership in trust”…(citations)
in which the state/government acts as a trustee in its sovereign capacity, managing a resource on behalf of its’ citizens (the beneficiaries), who collectively “own” the resource. Yet, as Freyfogle & Goble pointed out, there is no “trust document” that establishes states’ obligations; thus, there is ambiguity regarding the specifics of states’ duties. Priviledges vs obligations.

      • coriolis…that’s the spirit. I believe everyone has to play to their strengths. If it’s letters to the editor defending wolves or setting up an educational wolf booth or organizing a protest, then people should do whatever they can to help. We can’t just sit around and type on FB. There has to be action, peaceful action. Look how fast the Occupy Wall Street movement grew. This could happen for wolves but people have to be willing to sacrifice their time and energy to the cause. Our movement is scattered and not organized and so we spend much time spinning our wheels. That has to change.

As for Baucus, I do think he’s serious. He’s not any better on wolves then the governor or Tester.

The wildlife trust doctrine has promise.

I’.m not thinking in terms of a letter to an editor. I began a letter to donors of the Yellowstone Wolves Project. There was the question, what did I want recipients to do? (Some demonstration of disapproval. Refusing U.S. concerts. Press conferences, public condemnation, from the EU, boycotts.) I was advised to ask for endorsement from Born Free and HSUS. Since reading Bruskotter I’m thinking this could be a HSUS campaign to end sports hunting in a world heritage site.

I read Bruskotter’s article last night
I wrote to Bruskotter this evening. https://bruskotter.wordpress.com/2011/09/29/wolves-as-a-public-trust-resource/#comment-18
Can it be shown that public trust implies obligations that extend ultimately to the land as your article seems to say? I’m working with a few ideas.
1Yellowstone is a world heritage site.
2Yellowstone is the world’s largest intact wilderness environment, a laboratory for research.
3 Ranchers hold their (spurious- easily demonstrated) interests above the commonweal and are self interested to the point of refusing cattle registration, pollution of streams rivers and ground table water, the biosphere, in a still larger frame, profit over world hunger.
4 Social issues connected to the sports hunting demographic, well documented, are deleterious to society as a whole. Promoting sports hunting fosters child and wife abuse and directly increases the number of spousal homicides. (Recent RCMP report)
5 If man too is predator his take must be closely regulated as to use. Killing for food can be accommodated and regulated. Hunting to kill, sports hunting, trophy hunting, cannot.
      6. Humane killing excludes bow and arrow, traps, snares, poison and baiting.
Senator Baucus has proposed drones for wolf management in Yellowstone. Back to point 1. Yellowstone is a world heritage site. Does that admit the world community to the debate?
2 Land use. Historically First nations people practiced what Leopold called Land Ethic. Do Indigenous people have any claim against the abuse of public trust?
I found some more relative timeline events on a link from his blog.

The timeline (history of wolf extirpation or events leading to extirpation) is one of the things I’m concerned about. I’ve put together events from various sources. Someone who knows this stuff could see at a glance what important events, especially recent events are missing. I’m looking for in put. If I post the timeline on the blog perhaps you or people who write to the blog could make suggestions.
I just had a reply from Bruskotter. He’ll review the letter. The questions I asked will be under review over the next year.
