Thank you for standing with me and the wolves through thick and thin. I couldn’t have done it without you!! May this be a better year for the wild ones.

I love the wolves with my whole heart. Here’s hoping people become more enlightened as time goes on and realize how correct Dustin Abbott’s quote is, i.e., “We have doomed the wolf not for what they are, but for what we deliberately and mistakenly perceive them to be, i.e., the mythologized epitome’ of a savage.” And therein we err and greatly err.

We thank you, and tonight our deep meditation is for the wolves who’ve lost their lives, and for protection for those still running wild in our world. May compassion come into the hearts of all human “kind.”
Thanks to all who are trying so hard to fill the world with the seeds of mercy, connection, and empathy. May these seeds grow as quickly as they need to, to preserve the beautiful wild. Keep up courage, strength, and tenacity…and amplify the unified voice!
As we walk on the beach at midnight with our wolf family, we will howl for all, and to all…with deep sorrow and hope.

Ann, my bestest buddy and fellow wolf lover, adovcate, you have been a constant support through these very tough times. Thank you for all you do and for the very kind words. We can only hope the wolves have a better year in 2012. Even though the hunts loom every day and I hate to look at the latest death toll there are a few things we can be thankful for. The Lummis rider was defeated, OR7 is showing the world what wolves are all about and being an ambassador for his species without even knowing it. The Great Lakes wolves may get some relief if HSUS decides to take them back to court if they are delisted and the Ninth Circuit hasn’t ruled yet on the constitutionality of the wolf rider. So some major victories among the rising death toll in Montana and Idaho.

I too wish all a Happy New Year, and a safe year for the wolves. Sophie and her Alpha mate made it, but let’s pray for her son who, like any teenager things he can do better on his own. Kids!!! We always have to be vigilant. I’ve been fighting for the wolf for over 40 years. One time I had to fight the town, city, state, county and federal to save two wolves lives…..by God, I won. The one wolf, my best friend, Thor lived to be 17. In the wild it’s about 7, in captivity, about 12, but a Sr. Wildlife Technician and I found him a place in Oregon at a Wildlife Safari, where the town and wolf specialists and a lot of contributions and a lot of press…he made it and had a beautiful huge area. Unfortunately, the other wolf was too curious, and while they were in their holding den he (Bright Eyes) dug under the fence and came up in the lions’ den. Killed immediately. Thor did not follow. Anyhow, that was many years ago and I shall fight for the wolf for as long as I can breath. Calling governors, sending petitions, sending letters (all certified mail) keep it going on all sites. Remind these idiots…especially Salazar who is corruption inc. anyhow, that election is coming up and pray to God they pack their bags. I doubt that I shall live another 40 years, but for as long as I live, I shall fight. Watch out for Alaska. They have what they call “Harvest Time”. I moved there several years ago and was ready to tear some heads from their bodies, but they didn’t have it then. Odd. So, keep your eye out, make the phone calls. Election is coming up and I will not vote for anyone who will not put the wolf back on the Endangered List permanently. Let this be known to all the presidential constituents. We are many. Cannot stress that enough. We pull a lot of weight. And don’t forget…..Boycott, especially Montana and Idaho, also Wyoming. If Alaska wants to keep their killing up, they might as well sink their Glacial Cruise boats!
Most sincerely,
Anne

Anne, what a wonderful and sad story (Bright Eyes) but Thor living to be 17 is quite the accomplishment, that’s VERY aged for a wolf. I’m sure you feel nothing but satisfaction for being able to save his life. Thank you so much for all you do for wolves and for keeping up the fight no matter what. We can never give up or give in. Once we stop fighting for the wolf, we lose. So our battle will be long and we will win and lose some. Unfortunately for Montana and Idaho wolves they are now captured in brutal wolf hunts, while at the same time we have OR7 making history in California, Wyoming wolves have been given a gift by Senator Jack Reed R-Rhode Island, he was responsible for stripping the Lummis rider out of the budget bill. We should all write to Senator Reed and thank him for effort.

My heart breaks for all the wolves & their pups who lost their lives in 2011. My prayer is a simple one, but a prayer for peace for all the wolves left in our world. And may not one more wolf lose his life in 2012.

Shirley, I understand your pain. It’s so heartbreaking to tally the daily count of wolves who’ve lost their lives in the hunts. They died for nothing.
We have to do better in 2012, organizing protest rallies against the wolf slaughter, especially since this is an election year, the ONLY time politicians pay attention to their constituents. We’ll have some leverage and bargaining power this year. We need to let our Senators and Representatives know, if they don’t support wolf recovery and protection then they don’t have our vote.

Awwww ramses…thank you so much. You can’t imagine how much your words lift my spirits. I’ve made so many wonderful friends over these past few years, I can’t imagine my life without all of you. We will continue to work together for the wolves and as you said we have to work much harder. If we keep going the other side will not win and even though it’s been a long and bumpy road we had some successes and that keeps me motivated. I think of OR7, making history and not even knowing it, just wandering in California, looking for a mate and territory, doing what wolves do. He has done more for wolves in these past few months then we could have ever dreamed.
Thank you again for for being such a good wolf friend ramses!!

Nabeki, Happy New Year and God Bless You! You are right, the DNR is planning a wolf hunt and I am mad as hell. The DNR is a liar and a flip flopper. When the delisting of the Great Lakes wolves was announced, the DNR wanted to only remove problem wolves and then decide in 5 years if to go forward with a hunt. What happened? Maybe the Safari Int. came in and bought off the Conservation Congressand the northern senators. Another problem is that the timber wolf is not delisted but the DNR considers them and the grey wolf as one. This will open a huge can of worms for the state and allow the HSUS to sue. I need your help. Do you think this will throw the Pres. election? Does any one know how to find if the Safari Club gave $ to Minn., Wisc. or Mich.? They dumped $400,00 in Alaska and $100.00 in Montana.

Bobette…I’m so disappointed they removed the 5 year ban on hunting. I read that Wisconsin is planning on killing half of their wolves. Also there is or will be a $150 bounty on wolf pelts in Minnesota. This is sickening. They are luring people to hunt wolves in hard economic times. It’s as though we’ve slipped back into the dark ages. I personally don’t know where the money trail leads but I think we can find out. I do know the anti-wolf groups have spent lots of time and effort the last few years spewing their hate in the Great Lakes Region.
Also look at the attitudes of the two Senators from Minnesota, Klochubar and Franken. They were begging the USDA for funds to trap and kill wolves when Wildlife Services lost some of their funding this year. It was absolutely disgusting.

Yes, it is called ‘The Grey’.
A plane crashes in the Alaskan wilderness and the survivors of the crash are hunted by a pack of wolves. Lead role played by Liam Neeson somehow decides that the best way to fend off these animals is to punch them with broken glass bottles taped to his hands.
