“Wolves Unleashed”….

Wolves Unleashed is an amazing documentary directed and produced by famed animal trainer Andrew Simpson.  He and his thirteen wolves traveled to far-flung  Siberia, one of the coldest destinations on earth, to make a French film called Loup (French for wolf). Wolves Unleashed takes you behind the scenes of the making of  Loup.  It demonstrates the extraordinary feats, in the harshest of conditions, Andrew and his wolves accomplished.  They set “out to make the biggest wolf film ever attempted.”

Raves from the Calgary International Film Festival:

“WOLVES UNLEASHED contains raw footage, presented without any special effects enhancement. Who needs cinematic tricks when you have Siberian vistas, inter-species drama and a wolf pack of epic proportions?

Wolves Unleashed will make its American debut at the  Sedona International Film Festival on February 22 and 24th, 2012 in Sedona, Arizona.

Please support this important film by spreading the word.  Visit the Wolves Unleashed website and Facebook page.

Wolves are so maligned in our culture, this is a chance to see how intelligent and amazing these animals really are, demonstrating “the unbreakable bond” between Andrew Simpson and his wolves.  It’s a breath of fresh air in contrast to the dark picture painted of wolves in The Grey. Wolves are shy and sensitive animals. Yes, they are apex predators that have a job to do in nature, keeping ungulate herds healthy but they are devoted to family with strong social bonds between pack members.  In fact wolves and humans have much in common, being two of the most social species on earth.

To quote Ed Bangs from a 2000 Nova Online interview.

“Wolves are the parents, the mothers, the fathers, the brothers and sisters that we always hoped we could be. I mean there’s extreme loyalty among family members, it’s everything to them.”

    • Joann are you talking about The Grey? Wolves Unleashed is a documentary film about the making of the French film Loup. Wolves Unleashed is a behind the scenes look at the tremendous work and effort by Andrew Simpson and his thirteen wolves. They went to Siberia in freezing cold weather, of course the wolves handled it a lot better then the people. I think you will love this movie and it’s a far cry from the horrible film, The Grey that portrays wolves as man stalking killers.

  5. Nabeki, received a call from the DNC before the State of the Union Of course they wanted $ and I refused and told him why. He seemed to be stunned about the wolf issue and was going to ask his supervisor if he knew. I told him the Care 2 petion site had almost 19 mil members and knew about Montana. Those are all votes. He says he will get back to me. We’ll see. Also , Defender’s called me and said Obama must know because of all the protest. Keep the pressure on.

    • Bobette..thanks for sharing. I guess Obama thinks Americans have short memories. I’m not sure why the DNC guy was stunned since it was his party that voted to delist wolves via budget rider. Only three Democrat Senators voted no..the rest, Boxer, Kerry, The Udalls, Feinstein…all voted to delist wolves and of course Obama signed the budget/wolf rider bill into law. Also Obama is the one that delisted wolves in the first place in 2009 and started this ugly ball rolling that hasn’t stopped in three years…so yeah, we’re pissed off and I for one will not be voting for this President. The sad thing is we have very little choice for President…there is nobody that’s running on the Republican ticket I’d vote for. Gingrich has said he’s thinking of giving Palin a high ranking job in his administration, even possibly VP, god forbid. Can you imagine if we traded Ken Salazar for Sarah Palin to head the Interior? Thats such a nightmare scenario I can’t even entertain it.

Defenders is becoming less and less relevant in my mind concerning wolves. We have almost 400 dead wolves in the combined hunts. Think if they rallied their base against these hunts? How much good would that do to have thousands of wolf advocates demonstrating?

The grassroots movement is way ahead of many of the large environmental orgs on the wolf issue. They are just too cumbersome and worried about fund raising to be bold enough to take on “big livestock and the hunting lobbies.

      Thanks again for the update.

  6. First – what in the hell is that guy wearing on his head – doesn’t look faux to me! Is it Wolf or some poor Coyote? Whatever it is disgusting!

Second – EVERY e-mail I get from ANY democrat asking for $ is returned with a “no” citing their continued killing of Wolves – no vote and no money from me they are as bad as the stupid republicans

    • Pat…not sure about the hat. I’m against using fur but who knows what it’s made of? Andrew Simpson is a world famous animal trainer who made a documentary about the making of the French movie LOUP (which means wolves in French). It shows the incredible work his thirteen wolves did during the filming in Siberia. It’s a far cry from the horrible film The Grey. Just think of the damage that movie is going to do to wolves for years to come when they are being killed in the hundreds. Andrew made a great documentary about wolves and I think it’s worthwhile supporting then seeing wolves tear people apart in some ridiculous sensationalist movie by Carnahan.

  7. I SAW WITH MY HUSBAND THE FILM “LOUP” ….AND I READ THE STORY IN BOOK…NO,FIRST OF ALL I READ THE BOOK AND AFTER I SAW THE MOVIE. WELL, IT IS A NICE BUT SAD (FOR WOLVES) STORY. I CRIED… I NEVER WILL TO SEE AGAIN. I’M SURE “WOLVES UNLEASHED” IT’S FANTASTIC !!! I THINK IT’S A VERY VERY GOOD IDEA TO MAKE “WOLVES UNLEASHED” !!! AFTER…. the grey….. HOWLSSSSSSSSSSS

    • Agnes…Yes I think Loup is very sad and also touching. It hasn’t been translated into English but I pretty much could figure out what happened and how the boy was so torn between his love for the wolves and the reindeer and his family.

I’ve very excited to see the wolves behind the scene work, it looks amazing. Not sure when it will be released for wide distribution. It’s now making the rounds at the film festivals. It could be nominated for an Academy Award next season if we help spread the word and it gets lots of exposure. Anything that shows wolves in a positive light will help our cause.

  8. @Pat, I don’t know, but i doubt that is real fur on his hood, simply because i know from working around wolves that it is hard enough to keep their teeth off of even if its completely fake fur…lol I can’t imagine wearing real fur around them ! (not that i would ever wear it anyway !) Just my two cents…

  9. As much as I enjoy documentaries and as positive as this film may be,
I am avoiding this film. What message would a world famous dog trainer be sending if he and the crew he worked with wear the skins of the animal they are promoting?

    • Yep, I saw that too John after I promoted the movie. I’m sure that’s not wolf fur but still, I get your point.
