    • I learned a huge lesson from this. We wildlife advocates need to organize far better than we currently do. The anti-wildlife groups in Wisconsin all work together and they have almost unlimited power and money. The animal advocacy groups all focus on their own agendas and do not coordinate. We need to change that and develop a federation that encompasses all of the groups just as the hunters and trappers do. Patricia Randolph, Nabeki, and I have all been in contact to focus on just that. Patricia and I have started a new group called Wisconsin Wildlife Ethic-Vote Our Wildlife (Wisconsin WE VOW). We are starting in Wisconsin, but we want to develop a nationwide network of wildlife advocacy groups that one day will rival the power and scope of the anti-wildlife groups. Much work still needs to be done on the website, but we are moving ahead with full force on this project. The keys are coordination, and cooperation between us wildlife advocates. This can work if we think about who we are really doing this for- the animals. Soon we will be starting membership drives and fund raising to fund our educational and lobbying activities. I will keep everyone here updated and ask you all to get involved and join us.

I have no idea who, I know Degeneris is animal lover, but we need someone specific to our cause. Any ideas? Am I off the deep end here? Grasping for straws, but we need more than just us in my opinion. We are scattered, but more needs to be done. I’ll help where I can.

      • Compensation for dead dogs is to be paid out of hunting licence fees is it not? Not government money. Hunter money. Pay to kill, pay to get new dogs.

There’s a small tight circle of people whose vested interest in protecting sports hunting looks more and more like a springboard to behind scenes activities. Obama can outlaw crush. So why isn’t sports hunting down for the count? Ground level the detritus of sports hunters is porn mags, beer cans, liquor bottles, and mutilated animals. They post film clip re-enactments. And lots of people know about sports hunters and successfully prosecuted cases of child sexual abuse in family.. check Animal People, Merritt Clifton. And ofcourse elevated levels of wife abuse among their demographic. SCI with its high style version caged hunt/foreign cuisine/designer clothes only sports hunt, probably offers access to rather more. The ultimate perk. The American dream. Never to be told no. To get anything you want and get away with it. Power.

I think you’re really on the right track, organization, confederation, nationally internationally.

The bills to be debated tomorrow represent terrible degradation to existing educational funding and programmes in schools, utterly discriminatory. Should the various assembly bills succeed affecting women’s right to health care, programs for the disabled in schools, sex education in schools, women’s health care/right to choice/coverage for abortions and more, Wisconsin will drop out of the 20th century never mind the 21st.

But if women were property they’d stand a chance under Windchill’s Law.
“Windchill’s Law” AB 401 2011, is one of the few hopeful notes, a strong piece of legislation.

I think I’ve posted before, I’ve been working on something, an illustrated brochure/booklet, Who Speaks For Wolf. When it’s ready I’ll be sending it to you for endorsement. I hope what I’m doing can add to this kind of effort.

        It’s worth saying twice.
        Keep doing what you’re doing

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service published preliminary findings from the 11th of a series of surveys of hunting and fishing participation begun in 1955. About 34 million Americans hunted or fished in 2006, the Fish & Wildlife Service data shows, or about 11% of the U.S. population. But this was the lowest rate of hunting and fishing participation ever surveyed.

Ninety percent of the U.S. hunting population are age 35 or older; the number of hunters 16 and older is now falling at the rate of about 1% per year; and the total number of hunters is down to about 12.5 million, half the numbers of 25 years ago.

      • Yes corialis…hunting numbers are dropping. Unfortunately these people are very well organized and have groups with lots of money and power. They may be small but they are dominating our native wildlife. The fish and game agencies are populated with them and they are decimating our predators and other wildlife, using them in their cruel game to torture and kill these animals so they can get that “rush” from killing something. What would these people do if they couldn’t kill animals? There are many links to serial killers and trophy hunters, especially keeping trophies so they can relieve their killing experience over and over. Sick, sick, sick.

We want this to spread all over the country and have WE VOW chapters in each state to educate people and lobby for wildlife. Right now we just have Wisconsin-WE VOW but we want every state to have a chapter. Please contact us on the site if you want to help. 15. What is the MATTER with these people???!!! One has to wonder: what IS it about this country – and what are you trying to prove – advocating such a cruel, vicious, nasty activity and parading it as “sport”?! How can even the most macho of men (and women!) believe that there is anything remotely sportsmanlike in hunting terrorized animals with dogs, shooting at them and letting the wounded ones die horribly?

I am outraged by this wolf-killing legislation (which has been spreading and must be stopped). There are many scientific studies showing that wolves are beneficial to the overall health of natural ecosystems, helping to keep elk, moose, caribou and other animal populations healthy and strong. Wolves are also vitally important to Wisconsin’s tourism industry.

Wolves are part of our country’s heritage and it is disgraceful to allow politicians, at the request of a few (rich?) ranchers and hunters, to rip our heritage from us. Wolves are an integral part of OUR land and its wildlife.

This program is an embarrassment to the State of Wisconsin, which should be PROTECTING its vital wildlife – not decimating it in the name of sport. This brutal and unnecessary program should be ended, immediately.

    • Weeeell….I had an Uncle who used to do it down here in Florida. Although the way he did it made it sporting at least considering he’d run up to the hog and try and tie it up…And considering the point is to take the animal alive made it even harder…So yeah two dogs and an old cowboy with a rope running through the brush chasing after wild hogs….Damn that was dangerous now that I think about it.

    • The so called “leaders” in Wisconsin only view wildlife as targets to appease the Wisconsin Bear Hunters Associations, SCI, and the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation (ironic name). Google these groups and you will see the true face of evil. These groups and those that lobby for them have their claws dug deep into both political parties. They have been successful in pushing the myth that “sportsmen” (cue laughter) are our saviors and do such great things for wildlife. Unfortunately much of the public buy into this. I just found out yesterday that coyotes are also allowed to be hounded in Wisconsin. I have lived here most of my 37 years from birth, and I had no clue about this. So basically dog fighting has been legal and encouraged in Wisconsin for a very long time. These groups try to play off sick activities like bear/wolf/coyote hounding as being a “tradition.”

Another disturbing fact is that 8000 trappers killed almost 500,000 animals last year in Wisconsin. Each paid only $20 for a trapping license and sold the pelts of their victims for $4.3 million. The trappers made $4.3 million on our wildlife all for a $20 unlimited killing license. Now Wisconsin is pushing to expand their killing grounds to ALL state and country parks. To appease the 8,000 trappers Wisconsin wants to put the safety of the millions of visitors to our parks perpetual danger.

The anti-wolf states in the west now have competition for who is the most cruel and barbaric. I am just sickened that it had to be from my state.

Let’s grieve and then set to find a loophole, as after all, corporations do it all the time. Is this about furs? I am just getting up to speed on this.
Can anyone help me with these questions?

1_ the 3 day aerial kill in Idaho cost 22K. That’s crazy on so many accounts. Can anyone share the company name and agents? Is a FOIA form needed?
2 What happens to the furs from federal hunts?
3 There are several clubs offering bounties on wolves. How is that legal?
4 Those of you who have more of a timeline: which officials have pushed or allowed this shift in policy?
    Thanks.
5 I propose a western beef and sheep boycott. I m not sure how it could be organized. Petitions are typical but look where they got the issue.
6 Regarding Idaho: Defenders had info that a wolf was poached and the
offender had no license, was given a warning. Nothing like some non-enforcement across the board. My guess is that may be a legal cause to get an injunction against these wolf-hating states to prove they can’t manage wolves, only kill them as cruelly as possible.

    Never give up. Wolves don’t.

    • The aerial killings were carried out by a part of the USDA know as “Wildlife Services.” They are federal employees meaning that our tax money funds this group of wildlife killers. They have been trapping, poisoning, and shooting from the air wolves and coyotes for decades. This is mostly done for ranchers. Now they are stepping in to help states like Idaho kill wolves to increase elk for “hunter opportunity” as we see in the Lolo area. They also trap and poison millions of other animals each year including the gassing of 27,228 Canadian Geese during 2010. In 2010 Wildlife Services killed 5,008,755 mammals and birds. YOUR tax money is paying for this. Our federal government employees wildlife assassins that go all across the country and kill our wildlife. This is one of the most secretive agencies in our government. They are also known to kill many pets by “accident” each year in their traps. Check out the Predator Defense website that is linked to the right. They go into detail about this agency and what they get away with.

Hit the Parks and Re reaction outreach programmes by intercepting summer camps, boy scout groups, informing them what is being done to the wolves, and that their dollars are paying for this, or can pay to protect, dependent on their choices and voices. Don’t recreate or pay any fees to area parks and tourist towns that allow killing wolves, vacation elsewhere, and let them know it!

  31. There is a MAJOR issue with this hunt (well, so many I can’t list) but they are missing some very important facts.

First – there are only 425 Great Plains wolves (canis lupus nubilus) in the state of Wisconsin. This subspecies is still protected under the ESA (or did they remove that also?).

Second – there is a possibility that the eastern wolf (canis lycaon) is also making an appearance in the state which is still HIGHLY endangered (only a few dozen exist in the wild now).

It’s clear that the anti-wolf crowd does NOT care about preserving any animal that is either in competition with hunters or has no “use” to humans. Their short sighted and egotistic goals can easily severely and permanently damage ecosystems around the world.

This is a Wisconsin state issue but combined, there are now several key states in the US involved in wolf killing campaigns – apparently most if not all of them based on questionable scientific data. There are good proposals in these e-mails as to how to organize the counterattacks; the state and nation-wide efforts at political level by joining forces of as many organizations as possible should result in something. At the same time, perhaps you should go international because historically, wolves have been demonized in many countries in the world but they have their defenders. It should be clear by now that practically all environmental and ecological issues are not local or national but have global consequences. A wolf killed in Wisconsin is one wolf less in the world.

The thing has to be, to find contexts in which to say that. And to say it in a way that is transparent and uncluttered by detail, until America wakes up. Sports hunting has to be understood as equivalent to crush and outlawed. Wildlife management by sale of death must be challenged in the courts and understood as criminal negligence.

I’m working on something I have to finish. I read this bit about Yudistira from the Hindu epic The Mahabharata
Wayang Kulit, the Javanese shadowplay performances are used for moral guidance. Yudistira is one character who is frequently invoked. He is the oldest of the 5 princely Pandawa brothers and is semi-divine. He is a model leader, never lying or showing anger. He rules his kingdom with perfect justice. He has no weapon, unlike the other heroes, but he does have the Kalimasada, which is a holy book containing the secrets of religion and the universe.
He persisted in climbing to heaven until Lord Indra himself opened the golden gates to welcome him. Yudistira’s faithful dog alone had persevered with him to the end and when Indra tried to dissuade him from bringing his dog into the palace of the gods, he replied, ‘The dog and I are together.’ His loyalty was rewarded and the dog was transformed into divine Dharma, god of religion and law, and Yudistira is still revered as king of religion or law. And that is the nature of the wolf and the nature of justice, truthful, unarmed and adhering to the laws of the universe, steadfast.

    • Dogs are a decendent of the wolf I hope they all turn on their owners and join the wolf packs and refuse to kill innocent Wolves. Its the most rediculous theory I have heard of yet. We have to ban together and stop this insanity before it is to late to save the wolves and our Mother Earth. Great father please step in and help us stop this murdering rampage against nature. The Nature the Great Father created is being destroyed by mindless in humane humans who were the last to be created in the first place. How would you feel if the Government just came and took your home for un-necessary use. I’m sure you wouldn’t like it very much and you would fight back. The innocent wolves aren’t fighting back they don’t understand why they are being slaughter at the hands of ingnorance. If you would learn about the wolves you would not want to destroy them. Do your homework before you mindlessly pass bills that you don’t even understand what you are doing to our Mother Earth.

  45. Neither dogs nor wolves should be hunted. In fact, no sentient nonhuman being should be hunted.
The members of the Wisconsin legislature should stop taking drugs and wake up.
Most sober citizens in 21st century America understand that
Animals should not be used as food, clothing, research subjects or entertainment. Animals should not be abused in any way.
What goes around comes around…those who hunt will be hunted.

  46. I AM SORRY THIS IS HAPPENING TO THE WOLF. IT MAKE ME SICK TO THINK THAT OUR GOVERNMENT WONT EVEN HELP TO STOP THIS. I AM ALSO SAD TO CALL MYSELF HUMAN. THIS IS NOT RIGHT AT ALL, THE WOLF HAS MORE RIGHT TO BE ON THIS LAND THEN THE PEOPLE THAT HUNT THEM DOWN. 😦 😦

    • Humans are self centered murding ass holes. Anyone who could kill a wolf could kill their own children. They are taking away a necessary part of our eco system that balances out the earth. I am a wolf lover thru and thru they are very intelligent loving creatures of the Great Fathers creations. Humans were the last to be created and the Great Father is probably regretting us being created at all. We are destroying his creations and will leave nothing for our future generations to enjoy. The wilderness is a necessary part of our eco system also and greedy humans just want to keep taking and taking till there is nothing left. They will pay in the end or their children will. The Cherokee teaches love of all creation not just people. If I could take a guess at this I would say half or more of these hunters probably go to church every Sunday which makes them hipocrites on top of every thing else they are doing wrong. Great Father & Mother Earth give our four legged friends a safe place to live with out the threat of being gunned down by ignorance and uneducated people that have know idea of what they are doing.

  50. I NEVER COULD IMAGINE THAT A CIVILIZATE COUNTRY COULD KILL SEVERAL WOLVES AND OTHER ANIMALS. THIS COUNTRY IS NOT CHRISTIAN? THEY DON’T BELIEVE IN GOD? DON’T FOLLOR THE LORD WORDS? SHAME ON YOU.

    • WE DON’T LIVE IN A CIVILIZED COUNTRY ANYMORE. ITS GOING BACK IN TIME TO THE WILD WILD WEST WHEN THEY KILLED ANYTHING THAT GOT IN THE WAY OF HUMAN PROGRESS. I HAVE TO SAY I’M ASHAMED OF OUR COUNTRY THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING. KILLING THE THINGS THAT OUR GREAT FATHER CREATED BEFORE HUMANS WERE EVER CREATED. DESTROY OUR MOTHER EARTH WITH ALL THIS NONSENCE IT TURNS MY STOMACH. I WISH FOR THE GREAT FATHER TO STEP IN AND REMOVE THOSE WHO ARE DETROYING EVERYTHING HE CREATED. (IN THE NAME OF PROGRESS) THATS A JOKE. IN THE END THEY WILL HAVE TO FACE WHAT THEY HAVE AND ARE DOING TO THIS COUNTRY AND I HOPE I AM THERE TO SEE THEIR PUNISHMENTS. GREAT FATHER & MOTHER EARTH PLEASE STEP IN AND STOP THIS MADNESS. I PRAY FOR OUR WILD ONES EVERY DAY IT HAS TO STOP.

    • You are so right it is the most heart breaking news to know that these beautiful creatures that the Great Father created ( before Humans) are being slaughtered. These people that is behind this bill will suffer great consequences when they face the Great Father. I know it don’t help the wolves at the present time but I do get satisfaction knowing they will pay for it one day, Wolves are the most sacred of all animals to the Native Americans ( which I am 1/4 Cherokee ) and it breaks my heart and soul to see these things going on in this country. It makes me ashamed to live in a country that has no love for the wild life that has been here longer than we humans. Protect the Wildlife. That was one of the Great Fathers plans for us.

One can measure the greatness and the moral progress of a Nation by looking at how it treats its Animals.( Mahatma Gandhi ) If this great man can recongnize the importance of our WildLife why can’t our government . This is no longer a free country it is no better than Nazi Germany during WWI only the attack is on the innocent animals that our Great Father Created and can not speak for themselves so we have to speak for them. I pray everyday that the Great Father and our Mother Earth will step in and stop this insanity. Bless our Mother Earth and our wild ones please make this madness stop dear father.
