      • anna..I love how the wolves nourish the old growth forests by draggin the salmon carcasses into the woods, where the bones will return to the soil and help this magnificent forest grow. Nature at it’s finest.

  2. I’ve lived in the Bella Coola Valley for 32 years and have heard the lonely howl of the wolf pack across the river from my ranch. Whether a dark starless winter night or during moonlit brilliance the sound etches indelibly deep within one’s soul. I recall once, while hunting deer high above the valley, a doe came bounding across an upland meadow, close behind this great grey wolf. I studied him within my scope as they both neared my position, both ignorant of my presence. The deer past just in front of me and wolf, at the most casual lope, came within 50 feet of my position. He slowly, almost nonchalantly turned a 90 degree arc, obviously obtaining my scent close at hand, and meandered off into the wood. Honestly, I thought of taking his life because the deer population at the time had been decimated by heavy snows and predators, but alas I let him be, he’s but a wild dog and I love dogs. The central coast of BC is the most special place indeed, not just for the wolves, but for the pristine reverence it bestows on both man and animal.
