Game of Thrones Dire Wolves

Bran Stark’s Dire Wolf Summer

I’m a huge fan of Game of Thrones and love the Stark children’s Dire wolves Shaggy Dog, Summer, Grey Wind, Lady, Nymeria and Ghost.

Sunday was the finale of GoT and the show won’t be back until  Spring 2013 ):  A little escapism is a good thing!

Dire wolf pups rescued by the Starks after their mother was killed by a stag

GoT used Northern Inuit dog pups until the wolves grew up and then switched to gigantic CGI wolves. They are scene stealers, every time they appear you can’t take your eyes off them.

Rob Stark’s Dire Wolf Grey Wind

Jon Snow’s Dire Wolf Ghost

Can’t wait to see more of  these amazing wolves next season (sadly Lady was killed and now there are only five wolves.)

  2. Wow, how gorgeous – I may have to start watching Game of Thrones. I’ve heard a lot about it.

    • It’s an amazing series on HBO and the books are even better…but it does shock with sex and violence, so be prepared. I want to see more of the Dire wolves, they steal every scene they’re in. I love how faithful they are to the Starks. In reality wolves don’t make good guard dogs but hey this is fantasy!

  4. This is not very far from being true, wolves are known to defend to death those who they love, and I am glad that tgis wasn’t just another story that morally attacked the wolves, instead they are portrayed as gentle giants who will stand by the side of humans..which have claimed through the ages that this animals are to vicious and dangerous and must be feared and destroyed…which is a total lie …

  5. I too am a fan of Game of Thrones and can’t wait for next season. I started watching it this season so I’ll find last seasons episodes to fill in the time until 2013- such a long time to wait.
It is true I can’t take my eyes off the wolves when they are in a scene- wonderful. Once you have watched and studied wolves you know which ones are true wolves on film!!

Now we know why they guard the wall!

    Thanks for your post. jg

    • Jane..My friend told me about the books and begged me to read them but I wanted to watch the series first, now I’m buying the books. HBO is doing a good job on the adaption, GRRM wrote Blackwater, which was so amazing. The fact he is a producer and writer on the show makes a huge difference. But what keeps me reading and watching are the wolves and dragons (and Robb Stark..lol)

Yes, now we know why they guard the wall, YIKES!!!

  6. Love “Game of Thrones”, my thought was to somehow contact the show & get them to support our pro-wolf movement. Why not. I fell in love with the show the first episode. So glad I have fans here. My only issue is the long wait between seasons. Will try & read the books in between.

  7. The wolves are stunning and gorgeous on this show. One of the few shows in popular media that portrays wolves in a positive and strong light. Linking GoT and pro-wolf support is a fantastic idea!

  9. I LOVE the wolves on this show and eagerly anticipate their next season! My third grade class studied Mexican wolves for a couple of years, but then we moved schools and we are now the Meerkats…sigh…I still love wolves, however, and would love to visit the Julian wolf center sometime.

And of course Nymeria is gone, so minus them and Lady, there’re only three wolves left in the show.
