Sad, sad news Wolf Warriors. 2 Wedge Pack wolves met death from the sky today as WDFW sharpshooters slaughtered two wolves and are in pursuit of the rest of the pack, including puppies. This is a dark day for Washington state. Do not travel to Washington or buy Washington potatoes. Call the Department of Tourism and Governor Gregoire and let them know you will NOT be traveling to a state that kills innocent wolves for public land grazing ranchers.
This is just the beginning of pack removal in the state of Washington. Does anyone think another wolf pack won’t claim this territory? It will be rinse and repeat, resulting in more dead wolves. Until we retire grazing leases and get cows off our public lands, wolves will continue to pay the price with their lives.
State shoots two wolves in Wedge Pack today; six or more to go

I am so sick at heart about this….how is it that ranchers have so much power in all the western states to get their way to have wolves killed…they are in the minority in every state where wolves are being murdered….I wish there was a way that all of the cattle would have to be removed from public lands or the fees made so high that the ranchers would take their cattle off voluntarily….all of the murderous attacks on wolves has made me hate the humans who are causing it to happen…I wish terrible things to befall them!!!

I feel exactly the same. What a sad state.

This is beyond disgusting and heartless. The rancher who is causing these actions will go to hell after he meets his karma. It is just wrong. The state of Washington should be ashamed.

Dont take this out on Washington in general, it’s the cattle ranchers that are at fault here. Not the general public ( I have lived in WA my whole life and am very angry that the wolves are being slaughtered)

Charlene, I understand most Washingtonians don’t approve of this but we have to send a message to the state that this is unacceptable. I’ve boycotted Idaho potatoes for years. It’s one way to send a message. The Governor could have stepped in and stopped this slaughter.

Ok, I get cha
I know there are alot of poeple really upset about this, but a better way to hurt the people that did this would be to boycott Washington beef.
The thing that makes me REALLY angry is the reports I have read have only said “it could be wolf related”…COULD…that’s not enough reason to slaughter a whole pack (in my opinion).
The cattle ranchers should graze their cattle (it’s better then shoving large numbers of cows into a small space and making them suffer in terrible living conditions) but they need to be responsible and humane when it comes to protecting their livestock and dealing with the wolves.
And the best way to do that (in my opinion) is to use shepherd and herding dogs to protect the cattle (just make sure the pack of working dogs is the same size or bigger then the wolves and the cows should be perfectly safe…except for the ones that stay and then they are fair game).

It doesn’t seem like even enough time was given to look into a workable solution or even verify what actually happened (i.e. “very likely” that it was wolves?”) Come on now. Does it seem likely that 15 or so cattle were injured in two months’ time? Did this man bait them or lure them? People are duplicitous. This rancher is grazing or letting his cattle run on public land. I don’t know why the WDFG is catering to him. I knew the delisting would be bad news, but I didn’t know how bad. I cannot believe in the 21st century we have to deal with this, and it can only get worse as more cattle expand into more wild areas for our increasing population. I cannot believe President Obama put a fox in charge of the henhouse like this. I have already heard rumblings about the other wolf packs in the state, and in other areas of the country. I am no longer a consumer of beef, but as consumers we should have a say in how our food is raised. It’s happening already with laying hens and gestation crates, and it should happen with grazing on public lands.

NO! Those poor wolves! If I don’t get too much homework tomorrow then I am so writing to the WDFG and asking them to stop the slaughter! And if I can’t do it tomorrow then I will get that letter written and sent ASAP!
In my opinion, 2 months is not enough time to conclude that non-lethal methods are not working on the pack or that the wolves are fully responsible for all 15 or so cattle deaths. More effort should be put into researching the pack’s movements and using more, perhaps different, non-lethal prevention methods of livestock protection, not killing off the pack! If the wolves are causing trouble, then research should be conducted into which individuals are causing the most problem, and if some members of the pack have to be killed as a last resort then only the most troublesome individuals should be removed from the population, not the whole pack and their innocent pups!

Two things that are equally as horrible that I would like to add. One is that the Alpha male was collared late last year………….. so they didn’t have any trouble finding the pack…………..sick bastards. Two) the cattle that were allegedly killed by the Wedge pack were grazing on PUBLIC land! The rancher that did all the complaining admittedly did nothing to protect his herd from the wolves, he is quoted as having said that “the liberals from Seattle” are planting wolves in NE Washington to cause him to lose his grazing rights. Just sent a message to the WA governor. Here’s what I wrote:
“Governor;
It is with deep regret that the state of Washington is hereby BOYCOTTED until this illegal bloodbath from the state’s WDFW is stopped immediately, and its officials and sharpshooters are brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law on charges of flagrantly violating the Endangered Species Act by aerial slaying two of our noble wolves, (in which by law, are supposed to be protected under the ESA) and a plan or conspiracy to massacre the remaining pack, based on lies and hate-mongering from one stupid cattle rancher.
Because of this, the beef industry shall also be boycotted as well.
(personally, I’m a vegetarian, and thus I stopped eating meat in 1984)
This brutal act, just to appease one irresponsible redneck cattle rancher who has no regard for God’s creations whatsoever,
is an act of treason against the will of the vast majority who want our wolves and other wildlife left alone, and because of this outrage, I (along with a multitude of wildlife like-minds worldwide)
will not do business with, nor travel to/vacation, nor purchase products that come from the state of Washington, and the boycott shall extend into Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Alaska.
Wolves have been on this Earth long before man even existed,
and the Creator put them here for a reason.
It is the RANCHER who encroached upon the wolves’ territory,
not the other way around…
And therefore, IMHO, it would be in the best interest for
the state and our wild animal kingdom,
if this self-centered, anti-wildlife cattle baron sell his ranch,
take his cattle and narrow-minded redneck attitude, leave the state of Washington, and relocate elsewhere to raise his stock, and never again, be allowed to graze his cattle on public lands and national forests at taxpayers’ expense!
We, The People, expect our tax dollars to be invested into preserving ALL public lands for wildlife (includinge wolves) and tourists who revere them with awe and wonder, as the Lord’s creations.
Not to be squadered to pander to a greedy wild-west wacko
with a ruthless mentality of Old West.
This is 2012 A.D., not 1892.
The 19th Century is in the past and it should be left in the past!
Please take this issue and my message with great seriousness.
The only way to end our boycott of products and tourism in WA,
is to end this senseless bloodshed and stop killing our wolves immediately and abide by the laws in the Endangered Species Act,
reform or dissolve WDFW, outlaw cattle grazing on public lands,
and ban trophy hunting and trapping forever!!!
Let’s make the 21st Century look more like the 21st Century
and revere ALL creation as very sacred,
as the Great Spirit intended to be in the first place..
Not regress back to the barbaric 19th!
Thank You…”

When I bring this up to the average person they are oblivious living in artificial world in the media matrix they don’t see it, never will see it and never will miss it when it is all gone. I would like to see all BLM and all National Forest and all National Parks designated 100% wilderness, no hunting and no human management other than “No Hunting”, and that means any and all including fishing.

The Center for Biological Diversity fights legal battles for wolves on as many fronts as possible and sent out the following email this morning asking citizens to call Gov. Gregoire and is asking for after call feedback. [This is not posted on their site yet.] Let them know so they can show their is strong public support for the wolves. Laws need to change…to reign in the Public Land whiner moocher bullies and protect the animal nations… it’s a dire emergency for these wolves.
Subject: Help Save Washington Wolf Pack from Sharpshooters
Only seven wolf packs live in Washington state — but the governor has ordered the entire Wedge pack killed in response to cattle depredations. That includes at least eight wolves.
The killing will be carried out on the public’s dime using marksmen on the ground. If that doesn’t work, these wolves will be shot from helicopters.
Washington’s wolf management plan clearly states that, to avoid cattle losses, non-lethal measures must be taken first to protect livestock. In this case only minimal actions were taken to avoid wolf-livestock conflicts.
Please call Gov. Christine Gregoire now at (360) 902-4111 and tell her you do not support killing the Wedge pack when ranchers have not done their part to protect cattle.
Then let us know you got through to the governor by clicking here:

You can’t call Governor Gregoire. They immediately send you to the Wildlife offices and they don’t answer the phone. You can’t call the tourism department. They have a neverending tape that says if you would like to leave a message one of our tourism ambassadors will call you back, press one. When after a half hour you press one, you immediately hear a dial tone. We are all wolves. We are all being killed. We are already dead. My God, what has it come to? The sheer affrontery. They stole your government already. It belongs to the cattlemen’s association. The government of Washington has one message for you. Fuck you.

I don’t understand how people love and protect dolphins, orcas, gorillas, elephants, but villify the wolf, who is just as advanced and sentient. This is purely irrational hatred against a species, no more no less. They deserve full permanent protection after all the hell they’ve been through by human hands.
