Will You?

This post is dedicated to all wolves who’ve suffered and continue to suffer brutal, senseless deaths in the name of blood sport and agribusiness.

The brutal war against America’s wolves wages on?

Will you be silent?

Will you fight for them?

Will you allow this to continue?

Will you organize in your hometown?

Will you hold a protest?

Will you work to end public land grazing?

Will you write letters to the editor?

Will you write to the Infamous 81 US Senators  who voted to delist wolves in the Northern Rockies via budget rider?

Will you tell those Senators you WILL NOT VOTE FOR THEM on November 6 because of their betrayal?

Will you boycott all wolf states that hold trophy hunts or kill wolves for agribusiness?

Will you boycott Yellowstone National Park to send Wyoming a message?

Will you spread this message to everyone you know?

Will you be a true Wolf Warrior?

Will you?

  1. What good do all our words do?seems we are talking to brick walls.i never thought i’d see such terrifying human behavior towards our wildlife in this age of supposedly intelligent beings. such actions and brutality flies in th e face of scientiific reason.these people who support this needless ,brutal slaughter are in such denial ..Perhaps they ought to read a book titled”The Denial of Death ” and come face to face with their own inevitable mortality.perhaps, then, they might stop using wolves and other innocent animals as the scapegoats of their own fear.

    • Yes, look at the main groups involved: the greedy, the sadistic, the irrational, the stupid, and the masses who just do not care. Then there are the few of us who are desperate and depressed over the suffering and death we cannot stop. We will keep trying, but the pain, the wolf hatred, and destruction of life is a stigma on the history of human life on our planet. I hope one day the horrors will be acknowledged and the deaths mourned.

    • We just have to stay on them and keep calling, writing letters and emails… Just like a pack on an elk.. We must wear them down… We keep putting pressure on them and they will give in to that pressure… We must remain diligent and not give up on them. They are counting on us.

  2. Listening to some of these people talk – I’m appalled by the level of stupidity and ignorance. It’s hard to believe this level of ignorance still exists in the modern world. I’m especially dismayed by the governor of New Mexico – “making our ranchers whole again”? You would think a crime had been committed against them, when in fact crimes are being committed against wildlife. I cannot believe the state of our country is in. Quite shocking.

    • Gov. Martinez is illustrative of the idiocy ruling New Mexico. She is an ignorant and ill-informed monster. Poor example of a resident from the alleged “Land of Enchantment.” There is a very dark side to New Mexico–it arrived with the conquistadores and still lurks there. The last time evil was successfully driven out of the region was during the Great Pueblo Revolt of 1680…

  3. Stupidity isn’t the word for it. There isn’t a word beyond stupidity to describe it, so we will HAVE to settle for stupidity. And cruelty. One way to battle this, would be to research products manufactured in these states, and boycott them. It is not much, maybe, but everything helps. And, tell their elected officials you will not be buy anything from thier areas. Call popular vacation spots and tell them that because of the wolf hunt, you will be spending your money in The Virgin Islands instead, and DON’T GO ON VACATION TO THOSE PLACES. Pressure on businesses WILL help.

  5. Everything that’s still wrong with the United States is revealed by this morally bankrupt, criminal return to the persecution and massacre of innocent wolves. The country was born out of horrific violence and theft and this continues, without shame, by liars, morons and killers. It is criminal that American politicians in 2012 continue to enable the ongoing theft and contamination of America’s public lands by federal welfare ranchers, public lands that belong to native wildlife, including wolves, and all of the American people.

    • Very well said Robert. I think people have forgotten how to organize, how to protest, how to stand up for what they believe in. It’s our duty as citizens to act. It’s not good enough to sit idly by complaining about wolf slaughter but taking zero action in the real world. The Internet is a great tool to disseminate information and to bring people together but if that’s all people do nothing will be accomplished except more hand wringing, feeling more helpless and finally throwing up one’s hands and giving up. It will take a strong grass roots movement to turn this around and I believe the energy, the passion and the will is out there, it just has to be harnessed and acted on.

Those in power will not give up their power without a fight. It’s pointless to argue with wolf haters or beg the states to stop killing wolves. We must boycott those states that are slaughtering wolves and let them feel the economic pain from the loss of tourism dollars. It worked in Alaska in the early nineties and it can work now.

Wolves must be relisted, it’s the only way this slaughter will stop. Wolves must have federal protection or they will once again be lost to us in the lower 48.

This is shameful and I am embarassed for the “human species” – the most dangerous species on the earth. Yes, the wolves MUST be re-listed or we will only be seeing them in private places or zoos. That must not happen.

    • Vida, you speak for so many of us. The bastard wolf killers are losers, on the losing side of history. Many of them know their perversion is coming to an end, sooner than later. The question is, not if but when. Their hundreds of years of long and bloody domination is coming to an end in a matter of months and years, not decades. The more intelligent among them know this. But they will lose their spell over the powers that be, only after they have inflicted their final spasms of torture, suffering and bloodshed. You are right about doing much more now to delay and obstruct their evil. Their are so many of us, who have come to respect and love wildlife. We far outnumber the perverted killers and their ranks are growing smaller while our side grows. That fact does little to stop the torture and killing right now. And each wolf trapped, snared. poisoned, shot and killed, is a tragedy and a crime. I agree with you that, in the face of this sleazy politically sanctioned slaughter, our side has no choice but to turn to direct action, along with stepping up our public advocacy for protecting all wolves. Traps and snare must be destroyed wherever they are found and those doing the killing must know that they are vulnerable to the justice they have coming to them.

      • Dear Nabeki, I am aware in my soul how much this state of affairs is making you bleed inside because I am bleeding myself and I am not even american, but I respect and love all living beings who have the right to live and be happy. I have known in my heart since I was a child that animals feel like us pain or pleasure and recently over 30 scientists proclaimed that mammals, birds and marine animals like octupus are also “conscious beings” just like humans. That changes the whole mental concept of animals being easily disposed of without regrets to the acceptance that whenever we provoke an animal to die it is now MURDER of a conscious being and therefore the culprit should be charged and encarcerated. You have to do what you must and I am not disputing your posts but I have to avoid reading them if it is about more wolves deaths as it causes me terrible mental agony and sob and sob and sob. Thank heaven I am very healthy and have a very strong heart otherwise I would have died already long ago.
The animal cruelty and torture is rampant in every single country on earth. Most humans are no more than barbaric bestial humanoids and truly I wish I could get off this planet. What I believe is about to happen will do just that. Just over 2 more months and all this repulsive scenario will be over.
Do your utmost to stop the murders of wolves for 2 months. Cause a lot of commotion to stir up human co-operation. Humans are slow to react because human nature is lazy. Show pictures of dead wolves, snared wolves, tortured wolves to provoke public outcry and do this daily if possible. My universal love is with you all beautiful loving people of USA. Namaste.

  7. Just plain lies that all it is when it comes to the wolf. Man is the only soul that kills for the enjoyment of killing. In Minnesota 330,000 deer are killed by hunters, 300,000 are hit by cars and 18 a year are killed each wolf per year. Minnesota has between 950,000 -990,000 deer.
    Wolf do not kill people!
Wolf only kill livestock when there pack is weakened by hunters killing members of the pack. This is because wolf hunt in packs and when one is murdered it makes it harder for them to hunt deer and feed the pack and the pups.
I just don’t understand why humans want to remove all things natural and all thing humans can not control, like the wolf and the shark.
These animals are critical to our ecosystem. Mother nature had a plan and it did not include the slaughter of species.

    • Raven…this is a wolf holocaust, similar to the last Western extermination. It’s a travesty and it took just three short years to accomplish it. Within months of Obama’s swearing in as President of the US he delisted wolves in the Northern Rockies. In fact he delisted wolves twice in two years, once in the Spring of 2009 and again in the Spring of 2011, when he signed the budget/wolf rider bill into law. His administration has been a disaster for our wildlife, specifically wolves and wild horses. Under his watch US horse slaughter is now allowed, undoing the hard work of so many people to outlaw it.

And yes we should support Western Watersheds Project. They’ve worked tirelessly to end public land grazing. There isn’t an issue that so directly effects our wolves as the take over of public lands by ranchers. Wolves and other predators should always trump cows on public land. We MUST work to send their cows and sheep packing, back to their own ranches and end their subsidized free ride. The American people are actually paying the salaries of the very people (USDA Wildlife Services)who work as the rancher’s private goon squad to kill our native carnivores and other wildlife on OUR PUBLIC LAND!

We have the power to effect change!

I know I have not been around the blog a great deal lately, but I am still very much a wolf advocate and am doing what I can. I am contemplating in-person visits to my Senators and Representative at some point; I’m also trying to find and work with the local pro-animal organizations. I’ve been to a number of demonstrations in front of our local fur store, trying to educate people about what the fur industry does to animals, including trapping. I hope I can get something more wolf-specific together at some point. It feels hard because I moved to Colorado to find work, and there aren’t any wolves here aside from the ones in sanctuaries and zoos — so the issue isn’t quite as relevant to the locals as it is in places where the wolves actually live, nor is it quite clear whom we’d direct a protest toward if we held one. Montana FWP, Minnesota DNR, etc. certainly won’t care if we protest them from down here! It seems like awareness-raising and getting people to contact our congressional delegation and push for wolf protection at the federal level is a better goal for around here. I will continue rolling ideas around in my head and keep you posted.

    • So good to hear from you captainsakonna. I think it’s a great idea to have a face to face interview with your representatives specfically the two Colorado Senators who voted to delist wolves in the Northern Rockies:

      US Senator Mark Udall (D-CO)
      http://www.markudall.senate.gov/?p=contact

      US Senator Michael F.Bennet (D-CO)

      http://www.bennet.senate.gov/contact/

Let them know wolves are dying brutal deaths in Montana and Idaho because of their vote. Tell them they weakened the ESA and put any species in danger that gets in the way of someone’s political agenda.

Mark’s uncle, former Secretary of the Interior, Stewart Udall, was a pioneer of the environmental movement. What would he think of Senator Mark Udall’s actions?

“Udall served as Secretary of the Interior from 1961 to 1969 under presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.[8]
Under his leadership, the Interior Department aggressively promoted an expansion of federal public lands and assisted with the enactment of major environmental legislation. Among his accomplishments, Udall oversaw the addition of four national parks, six national monuments, eight national seashores and lakeshores, nine national recreation areas, twenty national historic sites, and fifty-six national wildlife refuges, including Canyonlands National Park in Utah, North Cascades National Park in Washington, Redwood National Park in California, the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey, and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail stretching from Georgia to Maine.[9]
Udall played a key role in the enactment of environmental laws such as the Clear Air, Water Quality and Clean Water Restoration Acts and Amendments, the Wilderness Act of 1964, the Endangered Species Preservation Act of 1966, the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965, the Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965, the National Trail System Act of 1968, and Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968.[9]

A pioneer of the environmental movement, Udall warned of a conservation crisis in the 1960s with his best-selling book on environmental attitudes in the United States, The Quiet Crisis (1963).[12] In the book, he wrote about the dangers of pollution, overuse of natural resources, and dwindling open spaces. Along with Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, The Quiet Crisis is credited with creating a consciousness in the country that led to the environmental movement. Udall was a staunch supporter of Rachel Carson and her work. Stewart Udall once stated, “Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife are in fact, plans to protect Man.”

Udall also had the foresight, when he was Secretary of the Interior, to spearhead the use of NASA satellites to produce images of Earth from space for scientific research, leading to development of the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) center at the U.S. Geological Survey. Over the course of more than forty years, that program mapped the Earth from space, showing the physical changes to the planet.[13]”…Wiki

Where are these environmental giants now? Men like Udall and Bruce Babbitt? We need real leaders who will stand up for our wildlife and wild places.

Senator Tom Udall (D-NM), Stewart Udall’s other nephew, also voted to delist wolves.

Thanks so much cp for continuing to work on behalf of wolves and other animals. You are a passionate, committed advocate and I know you will be speaking out for wolves wherever you are.

I’m sorry to have to post those pictures but something has to wake people up. We can’t sit passively by while the slaughter continues and becomes the new normal. We can’t rely on the big orgs anymore to bail wolves out. Grass roots advocates hold the true power of this movement. And that doesn’t mean I’m advocating anything illegal but there are many ways we can collectively change this narrative. The key is working together, organizing, voting those 81 Senators out of office, firing Salazar, boycotting all the wolf states who are killing their wolves, whether it’s for bloody trophy hunts or agribusiness, hold protests, educate the public about the slaughter. Our slogan should be “We will not stop until every wolf is safe”. The haters might have the floor now but this war is far from over.

  15. I posted this on my pages and will continue to fight for wolves….we need to protest in D.C. too, where the lawmakers congregate…..there is nothing that makes a senator or congressman more nervous than a lawn full of unhappy constituents at the White House.
Obama must be told that under no uncertain terms will we tolerate 4 more years of Salazar catering to ranchers or 4 more years of handing over our wolves to the savage states!!!
We must hammer the White House phones and messaging services!!!

What would happen ‘if’ 100,000 people (not one less), showed up in front of the White House with posters, banners, mega-phones, and the press in tow?? The wolves would have a chance at being re-listed under federal protection. Out of 370 million people in the United States, surely 1 million of them like wolves and are outraged.

Let’s take advantage of billboards as tourists get close to the entrance of Yellowstone. Let them see what has become of the rock stars of wildlife in the park!

At this point we need DRAMA–something really BIG~

This is a David vs Goliath fight……but how can we look in their eyes and give up?

    • Terrific energy Linda and great ideas! As I said to Ida we have to be willing to make these sacrifices in the real world and not just on the Internet. A call to action to all wolf advocates that we will no longer be silent. That we want our wolves relisted and unmolested. The only way the powerful will listen is if we make enough noise to get their attention. Otherwise it will be business as usual and our wolves will be gone in a few short years or reduced to a beleaguered, pathetic, tiny population of hounded, persecuted animals that will have no chance of a decent life, only to be used as target practice for sicko trophy hunters.

GALACTIC PEOPLE FROM ACROSS GALAXIES ARE AWAITING IN OUR STRATOSPHERE FOR THE RIGHT TIME TO LAND AND COMMUNICATE WITH US WHICH SHOULD BE IN PLUS MINUS 2 MONTHS. THAT’S WHY I ASK FOR “HOWLING FOR JUSTICE” PEOPLE TO CAUSE AN OUTCRY TO SLOW DOWN THE MASSACRE FOR 2 MONTHS.

VERY SOON THIS SCENARIO OF HORROR SHALL BE OVER, NOT JUST FOR THE WOLVES BUT FOR ALL THE BILLIONS OF ANIMALS THAT ARE AS I WRITE BEING ABUSED WITH CRUELTY AND TORTURE AND NEGLECT. MAY PEACE, HARMONY AND LOVE PREVAIL ON THIS BEAUTIFUL BLUE PLANET OUR BELOVED MOTHER EARTH GAIA!NAMASTE

I would be more than willing to participate in something like this – something to bring nation-wide attention so that this issue can no longer be ignored. The wolf states count on the fact that the rest of the country doesn’t know what’s going on.

    • Excellent Ida. That’s the kind of action we need but every time a large demonstration like this is proposed, 20 people show up. I think the largest wolf demonstration was in Coeur d’alene, Idaho, organized by NIWA, Friends of the Clearwater, Predator Defense and others…there were approx. 80 to 100 people.

If we’re ever going to make a difference we have to be willing to get out in the real world and hold large demonstrations like this to make it clear to the minority of wolf hating ranchers, politicians and hunters that the American people will not tolerate another wolf extermination!!

  19. It is heart breaking to view the photos of the dead or dying wolves. It makes me feel so sick.
I have tried since 1995/1996 to help educate people about the wolves in our country. People in the Midwest don’t readily see wolves, so, this issue seems to bypass us.
My husband and I adopted and supported several wolves and the WERC in Idaho for many years. Since the mid-nineties not much really has been done to ensure the continued safety of the wolf. Many hunters take great pleasure in the ‘Kill” of anything. I just don’t understand it. I find no joy in seeing anything die.
Very disturbing……what kind of people are out there?????

  20. Blaming all of the state’s ills, public safety, rancher losses on a pack of less than 50 wolves – I dunno, anywhere else you say that to your boss, you’d be fired. It’s just ridiculous, and if our administration had any backbone at all we’d put wolves right back on the Endangered list because the states are completely out of control on this issue. They have shown that they cannot handle wildlife management without a bloodbath.

I wish we could all protest in DC, because on the home turf you probably won’t get much of a turnout.

  25. It’s always and everywhere the same:

“hunters” – mostly the minority of a country’s people, full of inferiority complexes and with pathological pleasure in torturing and killing are stealing the predator’s prey, so they have to search for their food in the neighborhood of people whose proximity they would actually prefer to avoid.

BUT MAN TENDS TO DENY THE STUPIDITY OF HIS OWN KIND !

So, the real problems are the so-called “hunters” – should we kill them now instead of the predators, because our human society apparently prefers lethal solutions of their self-made problems?

Or should we better prefer to absolutely illegalize “hunting” – limit our habitat and finally stay away from natural areas with wildlife just as we demand from other creatures – prefer to reduce the excess production of meat which mostly ends in dumpsters anyway, which leads indirectly to acidification of our fields, for which a disproportionate amount of climate-hostile gas is produced, for which we need to use too much antibiotis and so cause the spread of multi-resistant pathogens – impose our ranchers to establish adequate fencing – promote better education about nature and wildlife – stop to let our cattle die a wretched death in trucks and on ships in the name of globalization – finally start to get the essential function of a natural-balanced environment into the backward awareness of people ???

We should not wait too long to respond to these rhetorical questions predictively. Time is faster than our alleged intelligence and we’re running out of time !

WE’VE ALREADY PASSED MORE THAN HALF OF THE WAY TO OUR OWN EXTINCTION, WE’RE JUST TOO BLIND TO SEE !!!

Who, do we think, will our violence, torture and murder loving cousins take for their satisfaction when wildlife is gone and they are bored to torture and kill bred and fenced creatures?

Whom, do we believe, will our greedy fellows chase away or leave without any basics to live, if noone will be there but us, standing between them and power?

  26. Lot of good ideas, lot of unfocused emotions. Need some kind of action, plan. Put me to work. Bio Diversity, Oregon Wild and some other organization just won a repreive for two male wolves in the Court. Seems DFW was going to follow their orders from the ranchers to kill these two before they even made the ranchers take a few steps to protect their own meat market cows so they were out of line with the Oregon management plan. DFW has their heads so far up the asses of the cattle ranchers that they don’t even know what their own job description is. Some smart lawyer has to be on top of everything all the time. It’s very difficult. We had 21 in Oregon. We now have 14. Sometimes the ranchers just kill them and don’t tell anyone. They are lawless.
We have more people and we are willing to work together with the socalled powers that be. That is a winning combination. I am only one person and I feel all you guys’ pain. Let’s write to all the senators that Nabeki gave us. Short, sweet notes that tell them basically what she said. We are outraged at their mindless vote. That wolves are being brutally killed. They have no respect for our wildlife and our wild places. Hammer it in daily. 85 senators. Write them all. Again and again. All the letters can be the same but just keep it up. Daily, weekly. And don’t forget to donate to the organizations who are fighting in court for our wild places and our wild animals.
Thank you Nabeki for all your work, for opening up our eyes with these horrendous pictures. It will be difficult to sleep tonight, maybe for many many nights.

    • nancy…I hope everyone is writing to these politicians, especially the Dems because they were the majority who voted to put this over the top. I hope everyone who reads this post will write to every single US Senator who voted to delist wolves via budget rider to tell them why they won’t be voting for them on November 6, or if the Senator is not up for re-election as in Barbara Boxer’s case that she won’t ever get there vote again.

The picture is the worst I’ve seen and I can barely stand to look at it but people need to see how the wolves are suffering.

  29. This is like a nightmare we are living though, and it is going to affect all wildlife when all is said and done. I don’t think I will be voting at all this year because there isn’t much of a choice between bad and worse. My vote will not push any of this forward, I’m abstaining because of consicence. The Dems are more like Republicans, and the Republicans are Conservatives. I’m the most disgusted with the Democrats. I haven’t been this upset since the last election when Bush wasI president and I voted very hopefully for President Obama. His environmental and endangered species listing record is on par with George Bush!

Romney didn’t do that bad of a job when he was Governor of my state but he was surrounded by liberals who kept him in line, I guess. He was a fine moderate. He actually helped write legislation to protect our waterways from oilspills after we had a spill, but the Federal Gov’t sued our state. 🙂

Thanks for you Oct 11 article: Gov Martinez: Relocate Mexican Grey Wolf Pack
How evil that the Gov is an instrument of injustice! She’s culpable as a killer for pronouncing a death sentence on innocent wolves by asking USFWS to relocate the Fox Mountain Pack! THE NAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THIS DEMOCRACY WANT WOLVES PROTECTED – THIS PACK LIVES ON PUBLIC LAND! SHE SAYS NOW THE RANCHERS ARE WHOLE AGAIN? WELL THEY ARE A MINORITY – AND THE MAJORTIY ARE IN PIECES BECAUSE OF HER – WE HAVE PSYCHOLOGICAL ILL FEELINGS BECAUSE OF HER! I WILL NEVER GO TO NM AGAIN BECAUSE OF HER!

My Dad, a German Jew, who left Nazi Germany for the USA at age 22 in Nov 37 raised me that if I witnessed something wrong. I HAD TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT or I was complicit (condoning it). I am WITNESSING SOMETHING WRONG – GENOCIDE OF WOLVES AND WILD HORSES……the USFWS, (Idaho Montana Wyoming FWS. & Forest Services, MN & WI FWS & MN Court of Appeals, WA FWS. NM FWS Wildlife Services of the Dept of Agriculture (which should be closed/defunded. would save us taxpsyer dollars being used against our will). BLM, the Beef Industry/Cattlemens Assns along with hunters/trappers (WHEN 94.5% OF THE COUNTRY DOES NOT HUNT) and ALEC (the same folks who brought us STAND YOUR GROUND & VOTER SUPPRESSION ) & the NRA are the NAZIS this time and WOLVES are the JEWS !!!!!!!!

When I found out that the USFWS refused to list the Mexican Wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) as a separate subspecies I was outraged! DNA testing indicates that the Mexican Wolf is the most genetically distinct subspecies of Canis lupus in America, and it is one of the most endangered wolves in the world! These wolves need to be listed as endangered, separate from the Gray Wolf. The reintroduced population should be reclassified from “experimental, non-essential” to “endangered,” or at least to “experimental, essential!”

Keep sharing what actions you have taken, brainstorm and then share any ideas you have that might help the cause. I have some new actions coming through my Protect America’s Wolves! petition. Nabeki added a link to the petition below. If you have already signed it, you’ll be getting the next Action Email shortly. We are all in this fight together. If we keep fighting for the wolves and keep growing our message and growing our circle of wolf defenders, we will prevail. The key is to not give up but to keep advocatIng, educating and fighting. It’s OK to take a breather, to take a break – I had to – but then come back and advocate, educate and fight.
