Cry Of The Wolf..

Cry of the Wolf Francene Stonebraker

Stalker of death, you have lost your way, and I raise my lips heavenward, my voice singing, loud and clear, setting free a song flowing in moonlight, echoing afar.

I cry for you who have forgotten… and fear remembering… your own wild beauty, blinded by wanton blood lust, killing what is most precious to you.

You have forgotten your greatest joy, born of all that is untamed.. wild.. free.. and this I have lived for you in all of my being, so that wild beauty may not die and cease to be alive in our world.

Will you remember too late, when the forests are deathly silent, when none remain to dance in the moonlight and frolic in virgin snow, when what was once wild with joy is dead… cold.. gone forever?

I set free my mournful cry into the night sky, knowing you will remember the wisdom now numbed with hatred, in a place where your buried soul weeps for shame with tears that will not cease, once it is too late.

Oh mankind, hear my voice, my cry, for it may vanish forever, yet my song shall not be silenced, and my tears… moon-bathed jewels… treasures will remain.

  7. Again,it is my deepest conviction that art touches the heart.I know the cold hearted ,misguided killers of wolves and other wildlife may be a seemingly impossible audience to reach.but still,if the words and feelings from the heart are put out there, released into the universe, the ripples created by their power and beauty will be far reaching.at the very least, art from the heart will soooth our wounded souls.perhaps then ,a recognition of man’s dark ,selfish need to conquer and destroy ,born of some unknown early pain inflicted on him might be addressed, treated and healed ..over time..but how much time do we have?the moment to begin is now.

  9. Very beautiful, at the same time heartbreaking. Those who have the disease of blood lust running through their veins I fear will not understand this, nor will they try to. Maybe if we pray for them, they will understand the harm they are doing, the harm they have done that cannot be undone. I pray that somebody can make the courts understand the atrocities that have been inflicted on the wolf, the grandfather of our dogs, the ones that are at the bottom of the predator scale and reinstate them on the Endangered List. They are nearly eligible to be there now. I believe in the Center for Biological Diversity. They seem to be the only ones who are fighting tooth and nail in the courts for the wolf.

I have read with deep feeling your poem and have searched for a contact address via which I might ask your permission to reproduce this poem in a context I will explain momentarily. I don’t keep Facebook.
It may be unwise to post addresses. I will take a mail box and post the address here Friday of this week, something I should do in any event.
You might of course extend permission to reproduce your poem on this site.
This missive may strike wonder in Nabeki. I have proposed, in fact pledged to produce a piece of wolf advocacy in book format. And that I will surely do. I have followed events at a distance. I have been waylaid by two tasks of a similar nature one involving Tibet. As for the wolves I’ve steadfastly collected images, materials, as in news articles addresses, kept files and otherwise written towards the completion of I Speak For Wolf, a borrowed title, which until now remains my choice.
I scarcely dare open HFJ posts, not wishing to encumber the completion of the mentioned documents. I have found writing at length on this blog purposeful but also time consuming. I have therefore stored every send and will in weeks to come go through them all, every one for that is and has been home base for I Speak. I have to admit writing on Tibet’s struggle is a challenge. I regret the delay but as for that the experience of formatting etc will put I Speak in good stead.
I’m looking for a sympathetic publisher. More on that later. Book form is a must, a small run. Hard copy should go to the top of the list. When I first wrote on this blog I had a dream of three papers which I interpreted, an thought to understand its meaning. Dreams are often simple. One two three.
    Your poem is so fine.

As Helen Durant said in her comment above, I, too, believe that words from the heart launched into the world have a ripple effect, and my piece is intended for this purpose. Yes, you have my permission to use these words, as long as you include the same copyright information that Nabeki included here. Their whole intent is to cry out against the injustice and in companionship with these extraordinary creatures.
      Best wishes,

      • Thankyou. I plan to place your poem on some one of the first pages, perhaps the very first before title. I also have an image,
I think from Ontario, that many people will have seen at HFJ.
A notice prohibiting hunting fixed to a tree by a fence. From the notice hangs the head of a wolf. It’s scruff hangs down from the head like a cape. And this will also open.
I have a short historical overview of wolves and first nations whose lives have been joined on the North American continent in peace as in war, based in part on Joseph Marshall III On Behalf of the Wolf and First Peoples. My heart belongs to the wolves.
I have things to finish up. The Future of the wolves will depend on a change in mind set. And for instance, it’s the rest of the world that’s made Canada quit their ugly seal hunt. Janez Potoċnik will be receiving a copy if I have to send it Purolator. He’s a good man and he loves wolves. But on reading your poem I had ask and to explain therefore. I don’t like posting the conjectural. It’ hard to work on other things when I feel the pull.

As you can clearly see, stated in the article, the Koch Bros Americans
for Prosperity are behind an anti wolf youtube video campaign. They
are perpetuating the lies/myths about wolves being killing
machines……FACT: Wolves are intelligent, social aware animals who
MATE FOR LIFE, TEACH & CARE FOR THEIR YOUNG, AND ARE LOYAL TO THEIR
FAMILIES/PACKS/COMMUNITIES…….they kill the sick/old of undulate
herds to survive…..ONLY MAN KILLS FOR FUN! MAN IS THE PREDATORY

Job 12:7-10 – “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the
birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and
it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all
these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In
His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind”.

      • I love your incredibly feisty and well informed response …The fellow who wrote the article about the wolves and Koch bros promoting an anti wolf video is Peter Fimrite at the San Francisco Chronicle. He did an excellent job exposing this connection between the Feds delisting the wolves and the Koch Bros who interests lie in the oil, gas and mining enterprises. The US govt is literally having the public lands cleared for their development by such folks as the Koch boys. That is why no one takes phone calls, answers emails or gives anyone the time of day when correspondence is made in regards to the slaughter of the wolf, and the relisting of this endangered species to the current administration. When Bruce Babbitt was Sec of Interior under Pres Clinton the office was open for comments and good policies were forged from public input, the scientific community and trustworthy govt officials. i really cannot believe it, but our Interior and Fish/Wildlife depts are seriously compromised by their lack of communication and protocol with the scientific and public communities. Does anyone realize that EPA position has not been filled in 2 years. This is a serious breach of our democratic process, and enables those that want no rules in regards to environmental issues the freedom to do exactly as they please, and they certainly are doing just that. The rest of us that see regulation of various industries as a mandatory process to wise environmental stewardship are left out to howl in vain and tremendous pain.

  20. I know we are all tempted to hate these bloodthirsty, rabid robots pretending to be human beings, but I have decided I will not stoop to their level in this way, filling my own heart with darkness and despair. I hear the voices and feel the spirits of all the wolves who have been slain so far in this shameful holocaust, and they will aid us in this battle if we but attune our hearts to them in the great love we share. Together, we can whisper to those who still live in such fear, empowering them in a new way to veil themselves and flee from man. And in the spirit of our immense, mysterious love for these beautiful creatures, those to whom we make our pleas to awaken to the shame and horror of what has been done in the name of blind greed will better be able to hear our words and perhaps open their hearts. It is a difficult thing not to get sucked into this darkness of hatred in its immense gravity, but with each breath of mercy and footstep upwards, I truly believe we can vanquish this darkness and save our beautiful wolves. I found myself howling at the rising sun this morning, and my tears gave birth to these words of power from a listening heart. So cry out for them and with them, my dear companions!

  24. I have scanned over these comments and I am greatly moved. I LOVE WOLVES! They are my favorite animals. I live in a area where there are few if any wild wolves (VA), but I hope to one day be able to go out west and see them in person. I actually planned to be a wolf biologist and I have done some research on them. The Wolf by L. David Mech is a great work of literature for anyone wanting to know about wolves.

Along with all of this I will admit I am a hunter. I do kill animals. With that said, I kill to eat. The animals I kill (whitetail deer) are beautifull animals. I feel that some hunters are put down to much.
I have read a lot about the reasons that wolves are hated and it seems to me that it is the same reason that hunters are hated. THEY HUNT.
Of course for the wolf it is a necessity. They are carnivors. This hatred for them is because their “method of killing is brutal.” They more or less eat an animal alive. But I say to these “fellow hunters” (humans) how would you kill an animal the size of a small/large deer with nothing but your CLAWS and TEETH! The formation and execution of the very effective hunting wolf pack is something breathtaking to behold. This effectiveness in the hunt is also done in the social pack, meaning that in times of leisure each animal can be governed. But I say that if this country was run like a wolf pack it would be better.(not to mention awesome!)

I must go now. Like me or hate me, I am a hunter and a animal lover. People don’t think that is possible.

Wolves are my spirit animal. I hope that my “after spirit” will become the soul of a new born wolf pup so I can live that awesome, wild life.
