This wonderful IMAX film was released in 1999 and documents the reintroduction of wolves into Central Idaho, while providing insight into wolf ecology and dynamics. These were good times, hopeful times for the Nez Perce , wolf advocates and the wolves. That dream is now being dragged through the mud by the wolf states, who are bent on slaughtering them and profiting from their deaths.
Wolves – IMAX enlightens us regarding the true nature of this iconic apex predator, traveling back to the heady days of wolf reintroduction in the Northern Rockies. The Nez Perce tribe, like other wolf advocates, had high hopes for the wolves’ return, after their long absence. How the worm has turned.
Looking back, I see how we were all duped into thinking wolf reintroduction would have a happy ending. In reality, it’s clear there was never any real intent to maintain a viable, robust population of wolves outside the national parks. It seems “the plan” all along was to slaughter wolves in trophy hunts or kill them outright when they ”recovered”. Recovery is never defined, except in the outdated, original capitulation to ranching and hunting interests, of 100 wolves and ten breeding pairs per wolf state (Wyoming, Montana, Idaho) Those numbers are not based on science but politics and were never revised to reflect scientific findings or what constitutes a healthy wolf population in the Northern Rockies. Wolf recovery is whatever the “wolf managers” deem it to be. Ten wolves, a hundred, thousands? That’s not a question the states seem interested in answering on their relentless march to decimate wolves .
The arrogance of hunters and ranchers who think they have the right to dictate which animals will be allowed to exist on public lands, is stunning. These lands belong to us all. They’re lucky Americans have been “asleep at the wheel”, allowing the anti-wolf crowd to dictate policy to Western politicians, ready and eager to do their bidding.
Wolf recovery, once a great success, has now descended into hell, with the deaths of thousands of wolves since their delisting by Ken Salazar and the Obama administration in 2009.
But all is not lost, we can still turn this around. Wolves must re-gain their Endangered Species Protections, for without them they will not be able to thrive as viable, healthy populations. The wolf will be doomed to their current fate…. hounded, persecuted, tortured, maligned and DEAD. With their family structure and tight bonds decimated, their gene pool further diminished, they will exist as mere ghosts on the landscape, if even allowed to exist at all.
Please sign both petitions, if you haven’t already, to demand wolves regain their federal protections before it’s too late.

Thank you Sandy….I believe the four points you highlighted are the core of the issue. Of course the delisting is what started this. I’m still reeling from it. To think it happened under a Democrat President..after 8 years of George Bush I was hoping for real change, we got change alright but not what we were expecting. Everything else then fell into place and the wolves are paying the price.
BUT as you said, if we would all join together to fight this we could turn it around!!

Yet the survival of our world depends on those whose courage is a shining beacon, illuminating where we have gone wrong, and showing the way to bring balance back into our world.

I believe this is the year when the “sleeping masses” will finally awaken to learn the true plight of the wolves, who are suffering beyond measure. But it will take publicity and hard work to break through the glass ceiling that has surrounded the wolf pogrom. We must save them.

Dear Nebeki,
The video brought back memories of my two years working at a wolf sanctuary. I told many people of the plight of wolves and how hopeful we were that once politicians knew the role wolves played in the eco system they would help protect the wolves and leave them on the endangered list. We were so nieve back then, and oh so wrong about politicians. Yellowstone is still enjoying what the wolves
did for that eco system. At least we have that.
My heart however still aches.

Christy.. The video brought back memories for me too. I remember how exciting those first years were after reintroduction, we had such high hopes. But the anti wolf crowd was always lurking, transferring their hatred of wildlife advocates onto the wolf. But I never imagined things would sink this low.

NOW in California the killers want to hunt the Coyotes – again, but this time it is in the area where OR7 has been wandering, so everyone is concerned – what a perfect scenario for the lunatic killers – hopefully the hunt will be stopped they meet next week in Sacramento. I guess if they don’t stop it we will all have to go out to the area and stand between the killers and the poor animals that are being slaughtered.

Pat this is an obvious plot to kill OR 7 and deem it an accident. The killers can’t stand there is one wolf who is running free and not under their control. They won’t be satisfied until they kill him. We have to make sure that doesn’t happen. We posted the information on Wolf Warriors last week but I’ll do another post this week. The blood lust never ends, how did these mostly men and some women grow up this way? Can you imagine waking up in the morning and saying to yourself, I can’t wait to kill and torture an innocent animal? Were they dropped on their heads as babies, damaging their frontal lobes??

SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SPIRITUALLY BLIND OR DEAD. THEY HAVE MUCH TO LEARN ON THEIR PATHWAY. EVERYTHING LIVING IS CONNECTED, WE ARE ALL FROM THE SAME LIFE ENERGY. SPIRIT IS LIFE, LIFE IS SPIRIT. WHO KILLS THE BEAUTIFUL WOLVES IS HURTING THEMSELVES. THEY ARE CREATING THEIR KARMA. SO BE IT !!!!

I had a client tell me they moved away from Idaho because they were not Mormon and the social pressure to be part of the church was just too much. Could this possibly have anything to do with it Nabeki?

Lory, I’m not sure about religious pressure but there is certainly pressure to conform to the hunting culture. In other words, if you aren’t with them, you’re against them. I live in the Northern Rockies and I’ve experienced it. Almost anyone that lives here feels that pressure. You have to insulate yourself against it and try to live your life and enjoy it as much as you can. I can tell you though, the wolf debacle has changed me in ways I can’t even begin to explain. I don’t feel the same way about where I live as I once did.
