Who’s the “varmint” is right, it sure as hell isn’t the wolf!
Who the fuck do the South Dakotians (or South Dakotites, or whatever the hell they’re called) think they are, labeling wolves “varmints”? Last week, their state legislators passed a bill to reclassify wolves from protected to “varmint,” lumping them in with coyotes, foxes, skunks, gophers, ground squirrels, chipmunks, jackrabbits, marmots, porcupines, crows, and prairie dogs, all of whom were native to the state before modern humans came along and branded them with that degrading epithet.
The reclassification of wolves in South Dakota seems a bit hasty, as there are currently no known wolves living there. Sure, they occasionally pass through the state in search of greener, or wilder, pastures. Three such adventuresome lone wolves (probably young males) were killed in different parts of the state in 2012—one was hit by a car near Pine Ridge, one died in a lethal trap set for coyotes and another was shot outside the…

Agreed. Besides the “varmint” designation is very convenient. First you declare an animal worthless or troublesome, and then you have a right–no, an obligation, to kill it. We should not be calling squirrels, foxes, or any other animals “varmints” to provide more targets. I would like to declare hunters as sorry, substandard specimens of humanity, human “varmints,” and hope they would be marginalized and deprived of their blood sports by all decent and compassionate people.

This is out of control now… plain ridiculous. I can’t believe and don’t want to believe that those in power have any real ‘power’ at all. Its in times like these that I remember world war 2 and I can only liken them to Hitler archetypes. I am convinced that a 5 year old could run the country and manage wildlife better than anyone in power now is… and the result would be equality and compassion for all living beings. God hear us, please. Those in power… you are destroying a beautiful country, a number of beautiful species, in the name of greed. Because you want to frack and drill – which = monies for you, and only you. The scenario is truly out of control, and there is no justice in your actions. Countless measures have been proven to be more effective than outright torturous killing, but you won’t listen. Your souls belong to the devil this we understand. Your fears shine through making you weaker than one can possibly imagine, and that’s the bottom line… you truly are weak. I pity a country that is run by beings such as yourself. Your methods are devoid of logic, your choices are detrimental to so many fields of existence, but always remember, there is a god and she is watching you… the final days you one day will spend on your death beds, will be the worst days of your life. Then you will seek forgiveness, and have to answer to your actions. Perhaps the same way you are not listening now, will be the same way your cries will not be heard then. How shallow, naive and utterly selfish you are. And for those aspects of your being, there is no excuse. You have a choice.

With so many of us feeling exactly the same way… why is it that we can not change what is being done to the earth & to our wildlife? I write e mails almost daily to the secretary of the interior expressing my voice against animal abuse, which is happening to the wolves and, wild mustang horses. Our politicians encourage this, allow this, & we the taxpayers pay for their helicopters to round up the horses, pen them & severely beat them. Then there is the despoiling of our earth with fracking, drilling & many other forms of destruction. In Canada alone they have taken a beautiful forest, & leveled it due to the greedy wanting the tar sands, & you wouldn’t even recognize it after “they” got finished. All the animals who lived in this magnificent forest & the beauty is GONE. Just google tar sands before & after pictures & see what has been done. I agree with the person who wrote “HOW SHALLOW, NAIVE & UTTERLY SELFISH YOU ARE”. We really need to express our voices to these caretakers?? & get this changed right now. Just e mail Obama & flood his office with expressions of our deep concerns. “INFO@BARACKOBAMA.COM or “feedback@ios.doi.com” or get someone in the news media to bring this informations on air, on T.V. & expose this so people will be up in arms. We need to change the people who don’t give a damn about anything but money, & allow the wolves & other wildlife to perish.

Anti-Wildlife, Anti-Predator, Anti-Science, Logic, and Facts and Bat Sh– Crazy:
There seems to be emerging a wildlife crisis between the hunter-sportsmen-rancher-farmer-wildlife agencies, and vastly, mostly right wing bat sh– crazies digging in to protect their heritage and right of blood sports and right of state controls of federal public lands and the critters and ecology therein and even trying to do so my expanding and enlarging that right with an especially anti-predator bent, which has been a tradition in the this country from the beginning and from the inception of so-called wildlife agencies. We, wildlife habitat-wildlife-especially predators-and balanced ecology(s) advocates must also dig in and fight, fight, fight at every level and venue. We actually have the numbers and tides on our side. This is last ditch stand of the blood sports enthusiasts and those nuts who think that predators are killing their take on wildlife bounty. Hunters represent only about 5% with trappers even less. Wildlife viewing brings in far more revenue. These barbarians are on the decline and in their death throes but making a lot of whiny noise. These minorities too much have the ear of right thinking legislatures afraid of them or like them and of course just slimy politicians playing to their ear. They have nothing on their side but hysterical, visceral, belief system folklore on their side when it come to wolves, lions, ecology, predators in general and predator roles in a balanced, healthy ecology. Talking to them is useless. We must talk beyond.

I sincerely hope you’re right, Roger. Problem is, they have a lot of clout with the legislators, who go along with their desire for more killing. One thing I saw that was especially disturbing is that the Boy Scouts are considering making hunting one of their activities. This disgusting choice is being advanced by the gun groups to train a new generation of blood sports enthusiasts. Hope people really complain and put a stop to that idea!

Varmint..their new label just explains how vast the representatives’ stupidness really is..according to them, “varmint” is a pest, an invader..therefore in the most basic logic we can conclude that the only invader in the land is the human being as it has deliberately destroyed and negatively modified the landscape for its own benefit in complete disregard of the welfare of the native innocent creatures that have called that land home, way before any primitive neanderthal set foot on it, so wrapping it up, yes, WHO THE FUCK DO THEY THINK THEY THINK THEY ARE TO CALL THE WOLVES, WHO ARE OF PRIME IMPORTANCE TO THE ECOSYSTEM, VARMINTS!!?? I will not make death threats, but seriously!? THIS EXPLOSION OF ANIMAL CRUELTY HAS GONE WAY TOO FAR AROUND THE WORLD!! Great! I just checked: This petition has been going for at least several days – but ONLY 127 signatures! I KNOW many have shared on fb. Do you think twitter might get more attention for it? I think most people just don’t “get it” and won’t take the time. Too bad they don’t see it as a way for wildlife agencies to do something about the indiscriminate killings of virtually limitless numbers of “varmints”….those living, breathing souls who are so wrongly maligned.

Humans are the varmints! At least the ones who want to kill the wolves!! I have started to share petitons both on Facebook, Twitter and Goggle+ as well as here, hoping to reach more people who want to make a difference. I can’t express the love and awe I feel for these magnificent animals!!

VARMIT! I could say this is the MAX for our wolves, but with all that has gone on these past years, I know there will be more: To get-rid-of-our-wolves! Give a designation > “VARMIT,” > takes the living out of a being before dead. Degradation. I know when horses enter the horse slaughter pipeline, they are deemed “dead” & treated such. No need of food/water/rest. No feelings as tortured. So for our wolves, another “brainstorm” by the immoral, corrupt politicians. Ranchers. Good ole boys. And go back to slaves.
