The BORG are coming for wolves. The Hive Collective is mobilizing its wolf hating troops to pressure the USFWS to delist wolves across the US. The take-over of America’s wolves is being led by the usual suspects: Sen. Orin Hatch (R-UT), Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Sen. John Barasso (R-WY). A letter sent to Dan Ashe, USFWS Director, on March 22, 2013, implored him to remove wolves from the Endangered Species List ACROSS THE LOWER 48. 72 members of Congress signed off on it, mainly House Republicans with a smattering of Senate Republicans and a few Democrats thrown in.
Wolves reside in just nine states: Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and sometimes California (with OR7 drifting in and out) and have been harassed, tortured, brutalized and hunted in the last four years, since the Spring of 2009 when our newly elected President Obama and his rancher Interior Secretary, Ken Salazar, stripped wolves in the Northern Rockies and now the Great Lakes of their Endangered Species Protections.
The reason for this increasingly brutal war against wolves is simple, they want wolf recovery stopped dead in its tracks, quite literally. They want wolves gone forever and are pulling out all the stops to get the job done. It’s wolf extermination all over again!

Tell President Obama: Keep Wolves Protected
Wolves across the country need your help now. The Obama administration is poised to make a decision before the end of the year to lift Endangered Species Act protections for wolves across the United States, including the Pacific Northwest, southern Rocky Mountains, Northeast, and elsewhere — this could happen any day.
The Endangered Species Act has protected wolves in the lower 48 states since 1978. Recovery programs for wolves in the northern Rockies and Great Lakes have been a success, but the job of returning wolves to the American landscape is still far from complete.
In the past two years, federal protections for wolves have been removed in the northern Rocky Mountains and western Great Lakes, leaving management decisions to individual states. States in these regions have approved aggressive hunting and trapping seasons designed to drastically reduce recently recovered populations resulting in hundreds of wolves dying. State management programs are as gruesome as they are ineffectual.

In the next few months, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will propose to remove protections for gray wolves nationwide—even in places that are critical to their long-term survival, such as Colorado, California, New Mexico, and Utah.
Tell Congress that the Interior Department is dead wrong with their wolf policy. Tell them you want wolves! They need to remain fully protected because it will give the species a chance at recovery all across the American West—anything less is unacceptable.
If federal protections are removed, migrating wolves from Yellowstone to states like Colorado and California will face an arsenal of guns, poisons, and traps.
Departing Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has promulgated the most regressive wolf policy in America since wolves’ restoration in the mid-1990s. Under Salazar the Interior Department has systematically removed federal protections wherever gray wolves exist, including the Northern Rockies and Great Lakes states.
Now Salazar wants to go one dangerous step further and remove protections for wolves in places where they’ve yet to be recovered, including Colorado, the most important biological link in WildEarth Guardians’ continental vision of having wolves living free from Canada to Mexico.
Let your Congressional representative know you don’t want to see further delisting of the gray wolf.
Except for a handful of brave, southern-migrating individuals, gray wolves have been absent from the Southern Rockies region since the 1940s. The Salazar proposal will remove the last hope of recovery and unleash the shotguns and sniper bullets on wolves all across the West.
We think Secretary Salazar’s proposal is illegal, unethical and out-of-touch.
Most citizens and westerners care about restoring wolves and understand the ecological benefits they create by their presence on the land.
Giving authority to states like Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico to manage wolves will be an unmitigated disaster. Just like Northern Rockies states, we know that state hunting agencies will wage jihad towards native carnivores, and their policies will be merciless to appease two user groups: the livestock industry and unethical sport-hunters.
It’s urgent that you call upon your Congressperson to stop this wolf-delisting shenanigan in the Southern Rockies and elsewhere across the West before it happens. Please write now.

Wolf Jihad: Montana legislature had a bill to allow landowners to shoot a “threatening wolf”. I thought ranchers/landowners already had this protection? But now asking the right to shoot a wolf on the next mountain or on their ranch or land? It no doubt means that any wolf seen can be seen as threatening and shot on sight, so it is a bill to treat wolves as varmints across the state and shoot on sight. It is a lot like WY wanting to treat them as varmints in most of the state and ID’s and WI’s aggressive killing seasons. It is hard for wolf haters to deal with facts, but wolves usually ignore mans’ domestic animals and stock, killing only .0026 percent of cattle, 67 of 2,500,000 in MT 2012. Even mountain lions usually do the same. Of course most wolf haters have trouble with statistics, facts and science and will deal only with absolute numbers and anecdotal opinion and their and visceral irrational reactions rather than percentages and probabilities, just folklore for them. I had geese, chickens, sheep, horses and often a litter of Dalmatian pups on my place, and I had a resident mountain lion and a pack of coyotes that left me alone. It is another yokel-rancher-wildlife hater myth that predators need to be killed on sight. So, more hysterical nonsense keeps coming out of right wing anti-wildlife legislatures and sporting groups and ranchers. This is more among mounting evidence that wolves need to be re-listed in hostile western, if not all states, especially MT, WY, WI, AK and ID with state legislature attitudes of treating them like varmints to be shot on sight, extended hunt seasons with extended trapping seasons. It is a war on the wolf, not management, and certainly not sport.

Regarding the on-going wolf slaughter: Jihad of western and Midwestern states of the wolf. I don’t know what to say, but it is a vendetta, not management, a jihad by yokel-redneck-hunter-trapper-rancher-like minded wildlife agencies and legislatures, but we have to move to get wolves out of state control. Wildlife management should mostly be federal jurisdiction because wildlife is regional or national in that wildlife does not see state boundaries, intermingle across state boundaries, and are mostly, regarding predators, on national public land (national forests or national parks). Wildlife is a treasure to the country not a renewable resource or annihilation target of state or localities within state. Another point is that the western states of MT, ID, and WY are simply to redneck-yokel-rancher-sportsmen (hunter) to manage the wolf. The same types set out to eliminate the wolf and other predators 200 years ago along with the USA government. The wolf has basically, with political delisting, been turned over to traditional enemies. It is not science, not logic, not ecology; it is just traditional, ignorant hate elements making the decisions. The answer is to re-list, indefinitely, and probably forever, and get away from this right minded (republican) idea of state prominence in this regard. It is not limited to wolves but also grizzlies, which the state of MT seems anxious to “manage” kill once delisted, and I think they are next going after lions. Once the wildlife agencies “study” predators, it is likely to “manage” (kill) and marginalize them.

I realize that this is not a wolf related issue, but please continue to read. It shows the degree of corruption of our government. Politicians learned how to use riders and inserted a rider in the “Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government”. Sounds familiar? This time it is a GMO rider that “will strip federal courts of the authority to halt the sale and planting of illegal, potentially hazardous genetically engineered crops. It will not only affect future judicial orders—it will also invalidate several recent orders that found the approval of GMO crops were unlawful, and will allow the planting of those GMO crops even while the USDA assesses environmental hazards.” Alliance for Natural Health and other organizations are questioning “whether the rider is constitutional—how can Congress contravene judicial actions? That would seem to contradict the separation of powers doctrine.” They are looking for judicial counsel regarding this matter. It is absolutely outrageous! Is this America? Obviously, the politicians that signed that letter either have not seen recent polls wherein a good majority of the people they are supposed to represent want wolves re-listed to the ESA and the cruelty to stop! Last time that I checked, they are supposed to carry out their duties and actually represent the wishes of the majority of the citizens? In case they forgot, it’s representational democracy. Or maybe they just blindly signed it while the special interest groups promised them the moon and stars come election time? Well, we have the numbers to promise political unemployment come election time! No votes and no money and no support for any of these politicians on the list!
I would respectfully ask all wolf re-listing supporters and animal lovers and those wanting to restore our eco-systems to print out the list of politicians. Pin it to a corkboard or put it on your fridge. You will need it later when they run for office! If your state is listed, write to these people and tell them their political careers are in danger if they follow their current path of supporting special interest groups over the wishes of their citizens, the people they work for! Sometimes politicians need to be reminded that they are where they are to represent all the people, not just the party and certainly not the special interests!

To work to change the killing fields back to Earth Mother’s garden. The beautiful place it once was, where, I pray, someday all wolves may lay down and rest with no fear. Where they may play with their pups and watch them grow up wise and strong to sing with us their beautiful songs. And meegwetch to Nabeki, for all the hard work and long days that never end in this war to save wolves and educate the masses!

I think you may have started something?
Now we have a full generation of children who have grown up with wolves in Yellowstone. How do these kids feel? And do our elected officials care? (Personally speaking, I think if our elected officials have little or no regard for the feelings of children, they picked the wrong career.) I would like to have teachers invite organizations with ambassador wolves to go visit their classrooms, or teachers take students to educational wolf refuges on a field trip. Then, while their wolf visit is still fresh in their minds, have the children write down in their own words what a world with/without wolves means to them and how that makes them feel. This could create a paradigm shift in DC if we can get massive media coverage? The one thing every parent cares about is their kids.parents wîll get out the vote and if they think some politician is breaking the hearts of their children, well, I think that politician’s career days are numbered.
This would be a grass roots effort, up to all of us who care about kids and wolves. Now you have the list of politicians that need to have a change of heart of find a different job. Print it out and make sure they know what you and your kids are thinking about wolves and their position to delist them. I doubt a single person who reads this blog doesn’t care how proposed delisting and the ongoing wolf hunts make their kids and grandkids feel.
Nabeki, how do you feel about this? Would it work as an out of the mouth’s of babes project?
Potentially, this could produce some beautiful poster and billboard material as well as get some help for the kids who are suffering the loss of their favorite wolves and trying to handle it on their own? We are adults and are hurt and angry, imagine how kids must feel?
I know how upset my own son is and he is an adult. My granddaughter doesn’t talk about it, which worries me. Melody

I’m personally giving up on this whole wolf activist life, it’s too damn much to constantly hear about delist this, kill this, extended xyz seasons “indefinitely”. Buck all of this noise, my heart let alone my nerves and sensibilities can handle the stress of being involved with this. An arrest, and no change not even a peep on this blog and it breaks my heart. I have a whirlwind of things I could sad about the fringe and this blog but I know it’s pure anger I’ll be typing. So I’ve been having so “me” work, and it’s cleared some things up. And those reading this should know there is only one path of activism for me, but I don’t think this blog caters to it. For a year I’ve had a fun run, I’m just ready to find something deeper and more complex.

Did you hear that the wolf populations in Montana and Idaho decreased by 4% and 11%, respectively? Just comes to show that these states only want to decrease their wolf populations rather than protect them! With that in mind, the gray wolf should not be delisted from other states until they establish healthy populations throughout much of their former range!
