For almost four years I’ve chronicled the sad story of the American wolf, since President Clueless and his side-kick Salazar decided to delist wolves in the Northern Rockies, which opened the floodgates leading to the disgusting behavior we’ve witnessed towards these majestic animals, ad nauseam.
Since the Spring of 2009 we’ve had nothing but bad news concerning wolves. The states have exponentially ramped up wolf persecution to a level nobody could have imagined, reducing wolf recovery to a total disaster.
Everyday there is a new crisis, a new battle and always dead wolves. Now Montana, apparently copying Idaho, wants a 10 month-long wolf hunting season. Idaho’s latest salvo is a year round wolf hunt on private land in the Panhandle, besides the ten month-long hunt in the Selway and Lolo. Yellowstone wolves are basically prisoners, with little hope of dispersing outside the park. What happened to genetic connectivity of the three sub-populations in the Northern Rocky Mountains? Biologists anyone? Except for Jay Mallonee, I haven’t heard ONE biologist step up and ask what the hell is brutal state management doing to wolves?
Can you imagine the chaos wolves are experiencing? These are social animals, who’s very lives depend on cooperation. Older wolves teach the young how to hunt and survive, family is everything to them. Yet now they’re being subjected to a Russian Roulette life!
They’ve certainly kept us busy sticking our fingers in the bursting dyke, trying to stop the myriad of anti wolf legislation that spews out of wolf state legislatures almost daily.
If it wasn’t for Minnesota and Michigan we wouldn’t have anything to celebrate. Minnesota has at least some support in the state legislature. Can you imagine trying to introduce positive wolf legislation in Montana or Idaho?
The wolf haters are running through their persecution laundry list to eradicate wolves for the crime of EATING. Yes wolves aren’t allowed to eat their natural prey, ELK, they’re reserved for hunters to kill in bizzaro wolf world.
Sorry for the rant. I’ll be back soon with a more positive outlook.

I have sent over 75 e mails & letters to Jerko Salazar stressing the importance of protecting the wolves, & not one, response. In fact at a town meeting I attended, they had several mic’s for people to ask questions, I raised my hand, & they gave me a mic. When I asked my question about wolves & the ongoing slaughter of these wonderful animals he said we couldn’t talk about this now, & cut my mic, but I kept talking LOUDLY anyway. This man is a contemptible & obnoxious person. I like a group called Defenders of Wild life, & as this g o v continues to muck up the earth, & animals of all kind suffer. Ex. the keystone pipeline, other pipelines, too many pesticides, & I could go on. These “officials” are despoilers
of the earth & animals as well, & my efforts seem to be lost in the shuffle. Caryn

Nabeki/Brett–You forgeot to include the fact that California is movin toward complete state endangered species protection for wolves. We have been working very hard on this. Those in power now use the constant silencing of the voices of reason to keep their illusion of control . Group hugs to all. Please, Nabeki, get a night’s sleep, grab a coffee in the morning and go for a nice walk with your dogs and rest. Refresh your mind, things will change for the better. Ideas will flow if you let them. I have a few now. And I have gotten you a beautiful wolf art t shirt for recognition of all your hard work, and want to send you some info that might help, as well? Can you please send me an e-mail again? I can’t find it on this stupid cheap tablet that won’t let me save e-mail addresses…and anything else. Got my laptop back finally but there is going to be a learning curve to use it as it has been upgraded. Oh, I sent Daniel M. a t-shirt too, he needed to be wrapped in spiritual wolf art, so while I was there I got one for you too. Now seems like a great time to send it to you but need po box or someplace to send it so you will get it. I’m not being creepy, just being Grandmother Sleeping Wolf. 🙂 And I find that this fantastic wolf art from Mountian is a real conversation starter on the wolf issues. When I wear mine, it’s like magic, everyone loves it and is happy to talk about wolves, it’s a fantastic ice breaker. I get to do a lot of wolf education just being in public wearing a wolf shirt…and yay, Spring has sprung, even here in Western Maine!

Thank you Melody…that is so sweet of you. As you can see I’m working off my one last nerve. But I’ll regain my composure soon..lol. I’m just so sick of this constant battle for every little inch. Four years ago we thought we’d win the lawsuit and guess what, WE DID! But the haters went around the courts and got their deadly delisting rider inserted into a budget bill.
Taking a deep breath…I will now continue my day.

Early yesterday morning, my day started with some good news: Florida released a second panther (Puma concolor coryi) that was rescued (along with his sister) as a kitten after his mother died.

From there, it was pretty much a downward spiral as notices of all types of assaults on predators and the environment flooded in. Not to mention the usual flood of animal torture stories.
Eighty percent of Americans identify themselves as Christian. What the fuck do they teach in Sunday school and church? Total disregard, or to pretend that problems don’t exist? Unlike Jesus, who spoke to inequity and injustice, today’s followers apparently think a fish logo on the trunk, and anti-abortion bumper sticker is all the activism demanded of them by their “Lord & Savior.” Roast in Hell! You have made this Earth a hell for living creatures, creatures created by your God, creation that God saw was good, creatures rescued by your prophet Noah at your God’s direction, and to which your God told you to show stewardship. Step up!
(Disclaimer: Sorry to preach to the choir, but you’re the only ones that showed up, again. This blog hit a chord, as I actually wondered as I read various accounts of the panther release, and of the earlier one, whether there might actually be a day of good news.)

What a petty, shallow way for people to interpret “dominion” over plants and animals. Given this responsibility people interpret is as meaning they have carte blanche to do whatever they want to waste and destroy?
Perhaps those believing in it should consult the Christian Bible’s Matthew 25:14-30, parable of the talents. Will the wastrels be rewarded, unjudged for what they’ve done, or will there be “Thou wicked and slothful servant … cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth”?
Personally I don’t believe in a God who would have, on the showing up of the late Dr. Norman Ernest Borlaug, said “Hmm, the record shows you won the Nobel Peace Prize, the US Presidential Medal of Freedom and Congressional Gold Medal, the Indian Padma Vibhushan award… because you led the Green Revolution, and saved the lives of more innocent men, women, and children than anyone in history by preventing them from starving, over a billion – but since we gave you dominion over all of that it doesn’t count one way or the other, sorry”.

TODAY April 8th is the day Wisconsinites can voice their view at the conservation congress meeting. You will be in the middle of a bunch of hunters and trappers, but absolutely everyone gets to go, everyone gets to vote on specific issues, and one of them is do you want to prohibit the hunting of wolves with dogs. That is number 68…we should go to our respective county buildings and be heard.

I can not believe I and others got e-mails saying from these killers saying the more we fight them the more they are going to go after the Wolves and other predators what a bunch of sick f——so I sent mine to all the Animal and Wildlife causes, they are going after them and so am I., No one will stop me for fighting for the Wolves and all Wildlife, they all need to be protected from the real savage beast ( MAN )

I believe it! The good old boys are out for killing. Sadly, they are not only after wolves (although that is bad enough), they are joining forces to fight every attempt to improve life for all the creatures of this earth, and they are getting by with it! Apparently they are going to teach us, along with the PETA, HSUS, and all the other organizations, a lesson–animals don’t count and don’t get in the way of our shooting, clubbing, dog-fighting, horse-slaughtering, factory farm torturing agenda. We just can’t seem to get enough people or enough money together to fight back successfully. I’m not advocating giving up, but it will take a lot of caring and persistence on our part.

Marcia wolves have been protected under the ESA since 1973, when President Nixon signed the ESA. They started returning to Montana (Glacier National Park) in 1979. Wolves have been back in Montana for over 30 years. Nobody ever complained about them, it wasn’t until the reintroduction the haters started crawling out of the woodwork. There have always been wolf haters but if Obama and Salazar had not delisted them none of this would be happening.
We need to wake up Sally Jewel and educate her about what’s going on. Trying to deal with Montana and Idaho is a waste of time. Wolves must be relisted and that’s the only thing I’m concentrating on. It’s going to be a battle but what we need to pull together. The haters are united and we should take a page out of their book. United we can beat this and save the wolves, divided we will lose. It’s that simple.

@Joan…had one like that, made them a promise though, that I (or others just like me) would also be where they hunted the wolf. I’ve tried to explain to them, that I don’t play the same game as others, I fight like the wolf does, and have friends who havve backers to go our bail. Haven’t seen any laws stating that I can’t alert wolves to the a**holes in the woods.

I wonder how all of you can remain so call and content with the flaming downward spiral that has become wolf reintroduction? I am so close to using the line that Samuel L Jackson use in the film “A Time to Kill” it goes like this: “Yes they deserve to die and I hope they burn in hell!”. I award the activist that can remain calm for they posses something I never had.

Dwayne…there is no way I’m calm or most wolf advocates, it just isn’t wise to be going on the web making threats. What good does that do? To be effective we have to organize and fight back, not with violence but with intelligence. This is not rocket science.
Our mistake was putting all our eggs in one basket, IE: big Org lawsuits to save the wolves. BUT the haters went around the courts straight to Congress. It might look bleak but we can play the same game. Put your energy into gathering like minded wolf advocates to fight back non-violently. You’ve got the passion, put it to good use!

Nabeki I award you for being unwavered by whats going on, but here is where the praise must end. In regards to blantant pacifism and one siding with gandhian tatics. Should we just wait for law makers and polictians to put animals in their selfish agendas when it’s conveintent for them? When it comes to wildlife killers I certainly don’t wish for bags of lollipops and money to fall from the sky and gently land in their laps. We may not agree on what tatics, but we cannot condemn activists who would risk everything for the lives of others.

Thank you for keeping us updated on the happenings. I don’t blame you for having to vent! We’re going to have to increase the size of our choir and supporters — I seriously doubt we’ll ever get the haters to change, but if we can do our part to prevent new ones from forming and becoming influential, we stand a much better chance. Granted, time isn’t exactly on our side with the unsustainable level of killing and the “oh, there’s plenty of wolves elsewhere” attitude, but I think it’s our best hope to buy as much time as we can and continue to advocate and educate.
I know things get really frustrating but I guess that’s why I’ve been working on a novel the last few years — lots of influence from the plight of many predators, particularly wolves, as well as inspiration from my own experiences over the years in other places… and it’s a great way of just venting non-destructively and possibly turn it into something better!

I want the wolves to stay protected. Any more hunting and trapping will make it worse. It’s time to make new laws to protect wildlife and animals. I also fight for wildlife and will not give up.

Senate Bill 288 would put all power in the hands of politicians and the Natural Resources Commission, and prevent voters from having a say on these issues. The agency bureaucrats could open a new hunting season on any species without public input and there would be no way for voters to intervene.
We need your voice to stop these politicians. Please make a brief, polite phone call to your state senator and your state representative today and urge them to vote NO vote on S.B. 288.
After all of our hard work in this campaign to protect wolves, we can’t let politicians undermine our role in the democratic process.

I am a newborn follower-and even I can tell that the wolves in a state I’m mostly sure I’ve never been to need saving. But who will save them? The wolf warriors try, and I’m not saying they don’t make a difference. But they are not enough! Pitch in! Lend a hand! SAVE YOUR BROTHERS!
