WY Wolf Quota May be Reduced Due to Lack of Wolves

The Inmates Are Running The Asylum!!!

Exposing the Big Game

See if you can make heads or tails of this muddled article in the Billings Gazette. I’m no mathematician, but it appears that wolves in the “cowboy” state have already been so overhunted that if many more are killed they’ll be back on the Endangered Species list…

Wyoming Game and Fish proposes cutting 2013 wolf quotas by half

CASPER, Wyo. — Wyoming wolf hunting quotas may be cut in half this fall, according to a Wyoming Game and Fish Department release issued Wednesday.

The population could not withstand another 52-wolf quota without coming dangerously close to the required minimum set in Wyoming’s delisting plan, said Mark Bruscino, the department’s large carnivore program supervisor.

If wolf numbers drop below the requirement, it could lead to re-listing on the endangered-species list.

“Our intent the first year was to reduce the population,” Bruscino said. “We…

  3. My head is spinning after reading that. These people are nut jobs. Truly they are serial killers of animals. I ask myself over and over again, just how did they get into power to be licensed to kill a species that has a right to be here on the Earth, unfettered by humans. They disgust me. Justice will be served. It will.

    • Yes, and it’s hard to believe that the good old boys will be satisfied until EVERY wolf is gone. When that happens the bears, raccoons, cougars, and all the rest will have to be careful. The rednecks with guns have to be killing something. They just won’t rest . . . Hell, if they kill all the wolves, they might be the first ones asking for them to be reintroduced. They’ve so darn much fun the last few years blasting away at them. Karma can’t come soon enough.

  7. I know – I read the article because I live in Wyoming and have been so outraged and disgusted by this WY Game and Fish. Their only concern is the ranchers and hunters in this state and I am sick of it. It is so hard to live here and listen to the red necked radical people I live around. Please keep up the pressure on these idiots!

  8. For any of you in New Mexico or can get there, there will be an open session on Tuesday, April 16 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service on a proposal to release a bonded pair of Mexican wolves into the Gila in April or June. The meeting is at the Reserve Community Center at Mountainaire Rd. in Reserve, NM from 6-8 pm.. The fragile population of Mexican wolves is inbreeding because there are so few of them and they are in desperate need of new wolves to expand the gene pool.

  11. On a good note—SB 397 that would have allowed snares, a 10 month hunting season on ALL predators, and the use of hunting dogs got tabled yesterday in the Montana House. The bill is “dead”.
I believe the members of the House did the research and realized that the management of wildlife by MT FY&P is questionable.

Instead they have opted to continue shooting off the representation to their manhood, and leave the dogs home with the women folk as these murderers of the innocent can no longer please them.

  15. There is a man in Montana that is fighting for all he is worth to save what remains of the wolves. He is asking people to sign a petition and is trying to get a large number of signatures. I believe he is looking for 100,000. I don’t know if that will do any good but it is certainly worth a try, and it is important for him to realize that there are thousands of people that believe as he does.

Please, go to the website, wolfandwildlifestudies.com to read more about it and to sign the petition.

We need to do much, much more than just blog about this insane slaughter of such a wonderful animal.

  18. If a wildlife population is so small that the quota must be reduced by half in order to keep said population off of the Endangered Species List, then why hunt the population? It just doesn’t make sense from a conservation standpoint!

With that stated, I am pleased that they reduced the quota. However, wolves should not be hunted at all in the first place!
