  2. Beautiful. Thank you. Now here is a link to a file that has the numbers of those slaughtered. It’s never going to be a ‘harvest’ for me. There is good information on this file. It has the wolf ID, if collared; description, and location of the slaughter and method.

    • Thanks for providing creekwaterwoman. I’ve done this so long, I can barely stand to look at the numbers anymore. Thousands have been slaughtered by hunters since 2009 and that doesn’t count the number of wolves killed by Wildlife Services and SSS.

  3. This video is heart warming. For those people who have compassion for wildlife, this says a great deal about the wonderful, loving, playful, family oriented, nurturing side of the wolf. Sadly, for those without compassion it will mean nothing.

    • Yes Rob, for those who have no compassion or empathy this will roll over their backs like water. But for us it’s everything.

      • Karen…I want to make an effort to be more positive this year so that people aren’t constantly bombarded with so much death…but I don’t know how long that will last. It’s hard to be positive amidst the heartache and sorrow.

  8. This will not change for red states just as long as nobody hears in Washington, what happened to Sally Jewel ? right just a front, this is a big shame by President Obama. He might have too much on his plate but he is the problem. Just as long as the house is controlled by republicans nothing good will come of this slaughter

  9. Doesn’t that hurt you? No more wolves or beloved animals shall be hunted or shot. Very sad stories. Fight stronger.

    Like

    • Michael…Fight stronger but also smarter. We’re been outspent and outsmarted by the hunting and ranching lobbies. They are highly organized, stand together and have the political backing in Washington of both parties. The biggest betrayal was by the Democrats, we knew what was in the Republican’s hearts but had no idea the lengths the Obama admin would go to crush the wolf. It was a hard lesson learned and a brutal one for wolves. Now we know we can only trust ourselves and the grass roots wolf movement. We have to find our center and move forward. We’ve lost big battles but not the war. Giving up is not an option.

    • Sadly white buffalo just a few control our wildlife. They wield great power in Washington and betray all Americans. It has to change and it will change but not as quickly as we thought. Nothing worth fighting for is ever an easy battle. There are more of us then there are of them.

    • They truly are magnificent Joan, it’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to hurt them but there are some very sick people in our society. Unfortunately many of them live where wolves live. Oregon seems to be the only state that’s doing a fairly decent job with wolves. Wondering which way California will go?

Wolf trapping is still going on in Montana.
Do you have a total (so far) for the number of wolves lost in Montana this season?
The numbers are so important in fighting back and trying to protect our remaining wolves.

    Like

    • Toni, here are the updated numbers:

      Idaho – 149 hunted by bow or rifle/43 trapped/ 192 slaughtered
      Montana – 117 hunted by bow or rifle/33 trapped/ 150 slaughtered
      Wyoming – 24 slaughtered/hunt (closed)/39 killed predator zone (2013)
      Wisconsin – 257 slaughtered (closed)
Minnesota – 149 slaughtered (closed) late season numbers (don’t have the early season numbers)

    • As of January 2, 2014 we can add 7 more slaughtered in ID. 6 trapped; 1 hunted. The ID Fish & Game’s hired trapper hunter who went into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness area to kill two packs (very secluded and hard to reach area so they were NOT ‘problem’ wolves). Maybe that is in your count. I don’t know.

Sickening. We must get them back on the ESA. It is their only chance to live. There are just too many deranged souls salivating at the thought of killing them.

  22. Here’s an interesting fact for Game of Thrones viewers. The series has used 31,653.72 square feet of real animal fur (wolves included), they could have gone for faux fur but the costume designer griped about how that would reduce the ‘authenticity’ for the cast and viewers (because the actors play medieval hunters, why not have them dress like them for real?) – same b.s. excuse as what was used in “The Grey”. So thousands of animals die for aesthetic entertainment purposes yet again.
