Protect grizzly bears by banning the trophy hunt

Petition by Bears Matter Ltd.

Over 10,000 grizzly bears have been killed by trophy hunters between 1976 and 2012. More than one third (1/3) of grizzly bears killed by trophy hunters are female. In the Spring hunt female bears may be shot due to mistaken identity leaving their tiny 2-3 month old cubs to perish.

A recent report by the Centre for Responsible Tourism (CREST) in collaboration with Stanford University highlighted that bear viewing produces far more jobs and revenue than the grizzly bear trophy hunt, which costs more for the government to manage than it generates back in revenue. There is simply no scientific, ethical or economic rationale for the trophy hunt.

Honourable Minister Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources

  5. When I read of any species hunted for sport, my soul is torn. I can only repeat a quote of Chief Seattle: “We did not weave the web of life, we are merely a strand in it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.”

  8. I just howl on the inside when I hear the use of the word “sport” for killing animals. I hope the petition is successful in swaying the powers that be. And I hope that we will end the cruel practices of hounding, baiting and trapping of bears in my state, ME. Meanwhile, long live the coywolf, beautiful, intelligent and so very resourceful.

  9. When the hunters get done killing the elk, deer, moose, wolves, what else can the good old boys do except go after grizzly bears. So pathetic–a magnificant animal stalked and killed by a puny human being. As the sticker say, we should all support the right to arm bears!

Of course, when they get done killing here, they can to to Africa and kill bigger game, even paying over $300,000 to kill a black rhino. Do they have any idea how disgusting they are, grinning like demented goblins over the dead bodies as if they had really done something great!

  10. You disgusting, cowardly lowlife creeps! You think it’s make you brave to hunt and destroy animals and mount their heads on your walls, use their skins to make rugs! It shows how insecure you really are! If you felt good about yourself and had self esteem you wouldn’t feel the need to go out and kill innocent animals! You make me want to puke!
    UGH!!

  11. This type of hunt is only out there for “the thrill of the kill”. Hunting is not and I repeat is not a sport and should never be classified as such.. An animal or human {for that matter} is not a trophy and also should never be classified as such. To the Government of B.C. ; “Listen to the people”
