ACTION ALERT: Tweetstorm Tuesday, July 29, 2014 – Dan Ashe – Director – USFWS

Tweetstorm Dan Ashe Director USFWS jpg

Dan Ashe, the director of the USFWS, recently stated in a small round table discussion  “that he sees a “giant clash” between those who favor conservation and those who favor economic development and that he believes that conservationists “must accept a world with fewer wolves, salmon, and spotted owls.” The Director of the very agency most responsible for protecting the nation’s biodiversity went on to say that, in the name of compromise, we must accept “a world with less biodiversity.”……H. Ronald Pulliam

What an incredible statement from a man whose responsibility is to “conserve the nature of America”. That is the mission statement plastered on the front page of the USFWS website.  Yet the director of this agency thinks we need less biodiversity? Of course I’m not surprised he said this because he’s pushing to delist wolves nationally.

We want to send Dan Ashe a message. We don’t need less biodiversity, we need more and conservationists won’t be bullied by an agency who seems to have their priorities mixed up. The USFWS priority is conservation not exploitation or economic development. Is this the person we want in charge of the USFWS? Absolutely not. But once again the Obama administration has let Americans down with a USFWS Director who seems to care more about corporations and what’s best for them, then doing his job protecting and conserving the nature of America.

Dan Ashe, Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently made a public comment that in a “giant clash” of those who favor conservation and those who favor economic development and that conservationists “must accept a world with fewer wolves, salmon, and spotted owls.”

These are not the best options that we have, this is favoring the wealthy corporations represented by lobbies who continue to use our natural resources competitively. Our right to make decisions involving the future of our planet, which affects our personal health, and our values, have been taken by these wealthy interests. Our natural resources are not a source of profit for a few.

The big organizations that we think are tasked with protecting our wildlife, environment, and environmental resources have loyalties to these corporations and special interests.

We need to contact the USFWS and our legislators to tell them that how we feel, and that they need to represent us.

ACTION ~ please let Mr Ashe know why this is so wrong, and why we must coexist intelligently before we lose our natural resources.

We CANNOT be humane or sustainable if we don’t protect our animals, our environment and our future. Profit is temporary.

  7. A world without Earth’s strands in the web of all life is a world devoid of all life, including mankind’s very fate. Mankind’s existence is as interconnected and inter-linked to the fate of wolves and salmon as the Earth’s light is from the sun.

It’s been a century since Aldo Leopold witnessed an ecosystem die in the absence of her wolves. We’ve slipped back in time and in science when Leopold seeded the word “green” while he witnessed a “fierce green fire” dying in the eyes of a wolf.

“In WILDNESS is the salvation of the Earth and the preservation of all life, long known among wolves, ecosystems and Earth…”

  8. This from the man that is supposed to be protecting wildlife and wild places? I’ve got a newsflash for you, Mr. Ashe: We already have fewer wolves, salmon, spotted owls, etc. If we reduce the populations of threatened and endangered species any further, they won’t survive at all. There are 7 billion humans on this planet, causing massive damage and destruction on an unprecedented scale. It’s time for fewer humans, not fewer wild species. And one last thing, Mr. Ashe: Those such as yourself who value profit over a healthy, diverse planet can kiss my ass!

  12. This science-phobic needs to turn his job and responsibility over to two sciences that state clearly, the extinctions of biological diversity, like wolves, owls and salmon, are about as safe for mankind and Earth as global, “thermonuclear war.”

This dude is totally clueless as to why he’s suckin in oxygen, and it has everything to do with wolves, salmon, grouse and the wild. A world void of the wild is a planet as life-flowing and safe and the dust on Mars.

He desperately needs to recognize, he’s only breathing because of the planet Earth, alone, created, seeded, evolved and planted — wild, natural ecosystems, created alone, by wild species, like wolves and salmon.

As the Director of the very agency most responsible for protecting the nation’s biodiversity you clearly are undermining the very Agency and the majestic, iconic, essential sentient species that you are supposed to be protecting. This is a travesty of the very core mission of the department that you are supposed to be leading in. Every one of our wolves, salmon, grouse, owls, and all our wildlife combined make up our world and we are all connected. These beings are more important than your misguided “leadership” and worth more to all of us than anything these insatiable, greedy developers can offer. You are favoring not economic development, but urban sprawl and the death of biodiversity. You should be The person who champions for our wildlife and not accept anything less. These other companies and corporations will never accept just a little less wildlife or “compromise. They will continue to encroach with every surrender and retreat you give them, until there are no more wild beings and wild areas. They just take. Are you that naive? Have you not seen all the killing of our wolves, bison, birds, and destruction of our wild places going on as we speak? Where have you been? Clearly, Mr. Ashe, you are not up to your job. Your position and world view is an embarrassment and you appear as a fraud. No, we must NOT accept a world with less biodiversity!

  14. Nabeki and Pack,

I thought you might be interested in an open letter to Ashe posted at Protecting Endangered Species. It is thoughtful and erudite and definitely worth the read…

    http://www.protectingendangeredspecies.com/letter-to-the-usfws.html#.U92uYRLCfKY.facebook

    An excerpt:

“Appointees are influenced by special interest lobbies with large resources of funding to exert undue influence. This is prevalent at both the Federal and State level. Our founding fathers intended to prevent an oligarchy, not enable it, balancing the rights of the individual against the rights of the majority. Current policy serves neither the rights of the individual to a healthy nonviolent lifestyle, nor the majority right to a future with a viable planet. The latest Sportsmen’s package intended to drive families and their pets out of public parks for the benefit of recreational hunters. This was a proposal that never should have been asked. This land is supposed to belong to that family.”

  15. Typical bureaucrat in the pocket of the hunters and ranchers. Supposedly we have to accept a world with fewer wild creatures to accommodate human greed and big business (and accept the irrational hatred of wolves and other wildlife).

    • What this scientific-phobic doesn’t realize, it is planet Earth and mankind that cannot live without Earth’s wildlife. After all, what is truly planet Earth but a living soil, water and wild, native species only of trees, plants, birds and animals, interacting and integrated and interlinked that create the one living, life-pumping organism, planet Earth.
