Today, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson denied Wyoming’s desperate attempt to change her ruling, so the state could proceed with their precious wolf hunts! Too bad, hunters are going to have to get refunds on their wolf tags!
As of this moment it’s still illegal to kill a wolf in Wyoming. Thank you Judge Jackson, it feels so good to have a victory for wolves, even though I’m saddened that wolves in Montana and Idaho are being hunted and Minnesota and Wisconsin hunts are just around the corner. But today we can celebrate that Wyoming wolves will be safe from hunter’s bullets and will no longer be treated as vermin, to be shot on sight in 80% of the state.

Federal Judge Denies Wyoming’s Request To Regain Control of Wolf Management

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A federal judge has denied requests from the state of Wyoming, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service, and pro-hunting groups to change a decision last week that reinstates federal protections for wolves in the state.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday denied requests to change her ruling.
Wyoming had requested fast action on its reconsideration request because the state had planned to allow hunters to begin killing wolves Wednesday in an area bordering Yellowstone National Park. The judge’s ruling bars any hunting.
Conservation groups sued in 2012, saying the state’s management plan failed to protect wolves adequately. The state plan classified wolves as predators that could be shot on sight in most areas.
A lawyer for the state says officials haven’t decided whether to appeal.

Great news, let’s hope other States follow suit! I may never get to see a wolf in the wild, but I’ve done a lot of research into Wolves for my Diplomas in Canine Behaviour and training and we could learn a lot from them for the good. Beautiful, amazing animals who deserve our admiration and respect.

Fire the Wildlife Agencies (USFWS, state agencies, USDA Wildlife Services, BLM)
The US government has long been in the wildlife killing business. It offered bounties on predators, poisoned and gassed prairie dogs, allowed the near extinction of bison, prairie dogs, black footed ferret, the wolf (wolf bounties), wolverine, and marginalized the grizzly, lion, and many others. The war on coyotes has been unrelenting. Hunters and ranchers, bedfellows of the wildlife agencies nearly wiped out most wildlife. With the advent of wildlife agency hunting regulations, the hunter has been somewhat contained; and now even count themselves as “conservationists” because they have essentially farmed game sport (recreational killing opportunities) animals and marginalized predators on the erroneous rationale of less predators to share game with the more game (recreational killing opportunities). Instead of an emphasis on wilderness and wildlife ecology, USDA Wildlife Services kills nearly 4 million animals a year and state agencies millions more in recreational killing opportunities and “management”. State wildlife agencies use hunters to “manage” “sporting” game and predators. Ranchers may tolerate big bird and other sport game birds, elk, bison and deer and antelope; but are very hostile to predators. Ranchers and farmers destroy wildlife habitat with the plow and grazing not only on private land but ever more and more on public land facilitated by the US government in leased grazing, leased farming and leases to extraction industries avenues. Encroachers on public land often, in turn, adding insult added to injury, asks the federal government, such as Wildlife Service, to kill animals that are convincing their encroachment. Conservation efforts and new agencies such as ESA and EPA and private conservation agencies have and are battling for balanced ecologies, the predators, and many animals of no concern to sportsmen, ranchers and farmers, and extraction industries and development interests. Agencies, like the USFWS often cave into ranchers hunters, state wildlife agencies, conservative state legislatures, a government tradition of really prioritizing those interests. The arguments that threatens remaining wilderness and wildlife is as old as civilization, making a buck by the traditional enemies of wildlife. What is not appreciated enough is what little is left: In the US roughly 2.6 % in the lower 48 and another 2.5 % in Alaska; and this is under continuing and unremitting pressure from, guess what, the traditional enemies of wilderness and wildlife, still too often facilitated by the wildlife agencies. Private conservation agencies often find themselves in conflict with wildlife agencies who should be on their side and the side of preserving wilderness, balanced wildlife ecology, and the predators who are essential to the balanced wildlife ecology. The wildlife agencies, state and federal, need firing and revamping to emphasize wildlife preservation, wildlife viewing, and a heritage of wilderness and wildlife in what is left of the available habitat. There is something terribly wrong when we see wildlife agencies aligning with ranchers, farmers, “sportsmen”, conservative state legislatures. It is time for major upheavals of them, their agendas, their heads and replacing them with priorities on preserving, recovering, protecting what is left.

Are there judges who can be bought, who will manipulate the law for favours? Judge Amy Berman Jackson is obviously not one of those. She stood up and did the right thing, in protecting the wolves of Wyoming. It is a pity that all wolf lovers in the other states, cannot be guaranteed to get her if they brought a case against the wolf hunters and haters.

Private conservation agencies often find themselves in conflict with wildlife agencies that should be on their side protecting and preserving the wilderness. They should use independent biologists, environmentalists and other scientists to study and balanced wildlife ecology. It has been scientifically proved, that wolves are essential to the balance of wildlife, and the whole ecosystems, even the rivers which flow through their territories.
Wildlife viewing, and a heritage of wilderness and wildlife, in what is left of the available habitat, could be turned into walking trails, where visitors take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints.
There is something terribly wrong when we see Wildlife Agencies aligning themselves with ranchers, farmers, “sportsmen”, state legislatures and congressmen and even the White House, to allow the destruction of our wildlife and wilderness. It is time for major upheavals of our political system, especially when big corporations can buy our politicians

This is not only great news, but a sign of progress being made in the courts by animal rights activists not only in the U.S., but across the planet. Albeit painfully slow . . . Times . . . they are changing.

Well done, Judge Amy Berman Jackson, well done. A huge victory here and hopefully we will see more. We need all the states that allow this slaughtering to follow suit. The idea of wolf management doesn’t add up under the scientific math used by these (now) state wildlife managers. All should be relieved of their duties and then, start over with people who actually know how to manage a wildlife ecosystem. The time of corruption is over. Hopefully this will be the kickstart of it.
