  1. “A righteous man regards the life of animals” – PROVERBS 12:10; “If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion & pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men” – ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI; “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” – MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.; “I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs…(They) are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no rights to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty….” – JAMES HARRIOT; “The greatness of a nation & its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” – MAHATMA GANDHI
Maybe those who are doing this atrocity will realize what they’re doing and stop it. These great men knew what they were talking about.

    • There are a few former hunters and trappers who feel ashamed of their actions and despise what they did; the only way a person can change is if they choose to do so.
Part of difficulty in changing is accepting that animals are not brainless unfeeling lumps of flesh, but living beings.

“We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.”
      ― Henry Beston

      • Oops wrong topic, anyway the point still stands.
People need to stop thinking of animals as things and rather as beings. Fully aware and deserving respect.

  2. I agree, the trouble, in my opinion, is that it takes relearning as some people got indoctrinated at birth or shortly after, NO excuse!! YET, people don’t want to look inside themselves to understand/feel what they are doing. It takes alot of work. It is a shame. I am so furious about these and other lack of communication/transparency/lack of feeling/awareness, ETC. that I want to shoot, etc. I am not going to jail for these “examples of lower humans who are unaware” I like your quote by Beston, John. The journey continues to get them to see another alternative, the people in charge are still our goal. Thank you.

  10. The buffalo is a sacred animal and anyone connected with these horrible actions will create such Karma that they will never be able to make up for it. Lets face it this world is a cesspool full of hate and cruelty just getting on thanks to a few kind special people. Maybe someday the scales will be tipped. I for one am sooo saddened to see all of these animals go, but this world does not deserve the wolf the buffalo and more. They are moving on to their sacred ground and it is not here! We humans are going to be left here with what the masses have created. Our children and grandchildren will pay the price.

    • The saddest part is, humanity is headed this way deliberately and willingly. We have refused to heed the warnings for decades, only concerned with our own immediate gratification, and now just look at the mess we are all in. We are a juggernaut that cannot be stopped. 😦

      • Please do not lose hope. Just consider the massive change that swept the nation when slavery ended, not so long ago. Despite all the opposition from those with vested interests in maintaining the status quo, change did happen. We need to rally and rally some more, be loud, polite but assertive about protecting animals. One person can influence many. We have to work hard and be proactive. Don’t give up!

  12. Homo sapiens is indeed going down. The tragedy is, that we will drag down most non-humans with us on our way. Latest reports on species’ decline: at least 50% decline in other species in the last few decades.

  13. What is desperately needed is a new, national, ethical and humane organization with legal authority that solely represents the interests of wildlife. The Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Department of Agriculture demonstrated a long, shameful history of protecting human interests at the expense of wildlife. They do not care about animal welfare. They see wildlife as a resource only, hence the abuse. They negate the fact of wildlife sentience and do not see their acts as cruel.
Until then, these horrific acts will continue. While commiserating online brings some relief among we the evolved, nothing will change until there is a powerful organization that can legally stop these atrocities. There needs to be strong leadership among those who do care about wildlife. Existing large animal welfare organizations are mired in politics and reluctant to be more outspoken. Wildlife needs an organization that is loud, is visible and consistently rallies to wake up those who would be wildlife supporters, especially to teach empathy and compassion in schools. We need to vote for candidates who take a stand for wildlife. But most importantly, right now, we need an organization with teeth that truly looks out for wildlife.

  14. Until the human species completely reverses its Humanist Ideologies about how it perceives other life on the planet, and the planet itself, nothing will change. Politics, science, technology, religion, education, and organizations will not do it. The problem lies in how Homo sapiens developed when it left the trees. We descended from Homo erectus, which was already busy killing–its own members, and other species. Homo erectus was around longer than our species has been at this point.
What does this all mean? the genus Homo (including erectus & sapiens), have been warring, killing and abusing the planet for eons. The planet is in systemic crisis as we speak. The non-humans do not have time. All we can hope for is for the planet to rid itself of the Rogue Species before all other life is destroyed–humans are not needed on Earth. In fact, we are a cancer. The best thing we can do for the non-humans is to not breed one more human, eat no flesh, and die. That may give the planet some hope–not another politician or organization.

    • Just think of all the war weapons humans have created, the newest threat nuclear power and weapons. What kind of creature could come up with these destructive things, never mind use them? Look what’s happened in Chernobyl. There was an explosion at the nuclear plant in Iran on Sunday. We’ve caused these things. And what to do with a growing body of nuclear waste? This should be completely off the table for consideration for our future energy needs. I’m tired of people who live in intellectual ivory towers giving ordinary people assurances about these things, or calling anyone who questions them ‘anti-science’.
