Vote these Democrat bums out of office!! They sold wolves down the river for Jon Tester’s Senate seat, in the Spring of 2011, by voting for the budget bill/ wolf delisting rider. Only 3 US Democrat Senators voted no. Why did they do this? To hold onto their Senate majority. President Obama signed the bill into law.
What the rider says:
(“SEC. 1713. Before the end of the 60-day period beginning on the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of the Interior shall reissue the final rule published on April 2, 2009 (74 Fed. Reg. 15123 et seq.) without regard to any other provision of statute or regulation that applies to issuance of such rule. Such reissuance (including this section) shall not be subject to judicial review and shall not abrogate or otherwise have any effect on the order and judgment issued by the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming in Case Numbers 09–CV–118J and 09–CV–138J on November 18, 2010.”)
Send them a strong message on election day. Let them know what you think about their betrayal of wolves and the ESA by voting NO on their re-election bid!
Thousands of wolves have been killed in hunts because of the Senator’s actions. Eventually, Great Lakes wolves lost their federal protections as well. Now wolves are being hunted in 4 states: Montana, Idaho, Wisconsin and Minnesota with Michigan pushing hard for a wolf hunt. Wyoming wolves were just relisted, due to a recent federal ruling but the Wyoming delegation is pushing for another Congressional delisting of wolves. This must be stopped! Congress has no business dismantling or meddling with the Endangered Species Act. This is a purely political move, to appease hunters and agribusiness.
245 wolves have been killed in this year’s hunts, and they’re just getting warmed up. Minnesota’s wolf hunt starts on November 8th, with 250 wolves slated to die. Wisconsin has slaughtered 219 wolves in just 15 days.
I’ll leave this post up through election day, Tuesday, November 4th. Please stand up for wolves and show these politicians we have long memories!

That’s the real tragedy in all this. There was a President named Bill Clinton and he appointed Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt who oversaw the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone and Central Idaho in 95 and 96. He also created the Roadless Initiative, which I testified for. It set aside millions of acres of land for wildlife. That’s a Democrat, with an excellent Interior Secretary, who cares about our wild places and wants to preserve them. What passes for Democrats now should be ashamed to call themselves that.

Yay! My only disappointment is that we can’t enjoy seeing Tester thrown out of office in disgrace, and raked over the coals in the media for scandal, but at least he’s not running again. So much damage has been done because of him (and a Democrat!) and those behind the delisting rider, it is shocking to me that many Americans haven’t progressed much since the days of the 1800s as far as wildlife is concerned. Politicians, without much ethics of their own, will go wherever the prevailing winds go, including our current President.

ida…I’m taking some heat on Wolf Warriors because the old argument is coming up…”but if we vote out Democrats, Republicans are worse.” Well I defy anyone to tell me Obama has been better on wildlife than a Republican. Besides, as I tried to explain it doesn’t matter if the Republicans take the Senate, it will remain gridlocked for the next two years because Obama will veto anything they pass. So hopefully in two years will get a new President who does care about wolves and wildlife. Maybe that’s Hilary but I don’t know. I loved her husband, he reintroduced wolves and created the Roadless Initiative…but we won’t know until she runs and we’ll see what she’s made of. I can’t imagine having another Bush in the White House, since Jeb Bush is going to run. OMG, just the thought makes me want to lose my lunch. But anyway, if we can dislodge just a few of the Senators who betrayed wolves, I’ll be very happy and I know you will be too ida!!

If people are worried about the two main parties then maybe they should vote for a third party instead. No excuses. Neither Democrats or Republicans are doing their jobs which is supposed to be being public servants and working for the American people anymore. Because of this it is now time to throw them out. My conscience and common sense will not allow me to vote for any of the clowns from the two main parties and it should be that way for anyone with a functioning brain. If I vote this November, I am going into uncharted territory and voting third party or write in.

The question here is, “Will Obama really veto anything republicans pass?”
He has not shown anything but compromise to the worst excesses, yet.
Realise that his appointment of Ken Salazar, and the consequent failure to sufficiently protect wolves, or develop a conservation ethic, was a compromise.
Wolves were thrown under the bus, to use a cliche’, and will be, until a huge change is made from the present system.
Urban people, including youth and politicians, neither know nor value the wolf.

Do NOT trust Hilary to prioritse wildland and wolf protection. Although she and her husband visited some wolves once, as I remember, she does not prize the environment.
Bernie Sanders might have a better viewpoint, and it is up to wolf advocates to use primary elections to assist in changing political manipulation of issues.
Environmental issues , except as urban people are poisoned, do not get on the major media radar, and so fail to be an issue.

I lived with a wolf, and have met others. I seem to be able to understand their language and communication better than those humans I have encountered, and had to translate often.
In encountering both terrified humans and those who believe that these individuals are acceptant of inappropriate familiarity and are cushy little toys like pet dogs, I have seen both types of humans think wolficidally when a wolf disabuses them of their presumptions.
I have even met a few wolf-haters while with the Wolf, but my own instincts when encountering them, was actually predatory – their fear and hate made me want to kill and eat. But I control this, and feel it important to tell you to control your tendency to vengefulness – not because I want to help you, but because YOU will become complicit in killing my fierce and loving people.
Although you believe you are doing wolves a favor by indulging in the primate lust for revenge, you are merely reinforcing this characteristic human attribute, and will most likely just create a congress of those who submit to this cognitive failure.

It is my hope that Hillary will see things mostly the same way her husband did. Stewart Udall and Bruce Babbitt were probably the best Interior Secretary we’ve ever had, and we had them for two terms!
I almost wonder what it would have been like to have Mitt Romney as President, because then the Democrats would have fought a little harder for the environment, instead of being in lockstep with their Democratic boss, who is clueless on matters environmental. Many or all of his appointments have been head-scratchingly out of left field.
In NH, both Senators, Jean Shaheen and Scott Brown, voted to delist wolves! But it is especially heartbreaking and disappointing for a Democrat to have done it. The Udalls are a complete disgrace to their forbears. It shows that the environment and wildlife protection are not part of their Democratic values, just a means of political expediency. 😦

It really isn’t a revenge thing – we just want them out. The Democrats have fallen down on the job because they know that many of us are afraid the alternative would be worse. I don’t see how it could be worse, and we need to replace them with people who really do care about our environment and wildlife. I really do think that with a change of administration, things will dramatically improve. The issues that are important to wildlife and environmental advocates are neither understood nor important to this administration.

Thank you for putting this all together. I have written Tester many times since I found out about his rider but have never received a response. I have been a Democrat all of my life, my grandfather was a delegate to the National Conventions way back when. I worked tirelessly for Obama in 2008. However, I have not given a cent to any Democrat since this rider passed. It is so heartbreaking for the wolves to have been delisted, and to be betrayed by those whom I have supported on so many important issues. When I get calls to support a candidate, I answer that when wolves are protected again, my money will go to them. Money talks in politics – nothing else seems to matter.
Give your money to those who work with wolves and other wildlife.

You’re welcome Jane…I’m still mad as hell over what the Dems did and I wish we could vote that DINO Tester out of office but unfortunately he’s not running, neither are Boxer or Feinstein or many of the rest of them. But what’s the point of voting if we can’t hold politicians responsible for what they do? They call themselves Democrats? Bill Clinton was a Democrat, he cared about the environment not like these pseudo Dems that are now in power.

I note that only CA 1st District Representative Jared Huffman, and Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, appear to prize wildlife over human exploitive priorities.
I receive email from Dems in several states in this time when they feel that they will lose, and the only good answer is Jane Britton’s:
“I [tell them] that when wolves are protected again, my money will go to them.”
This moment, when they feel in greatest jeopardy, is when they might open their ears to hear.

After the rider was passed, I let both my Dem Senators know how I felt about it. Of course I only got the typical, generic responses from both of them. They will never get my vote again.
They threw wolves under the bus and weakened the ESA, and for what? I mean, it’s not like the Dem majority in the Senate has actually done anything, other than let the Repubs dominate the debate. Thanks to their short-sighted ignorance, all endangered and threatened species are now on jeopardy.

Already thought of this. It’s my understanding, Senators Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein both voted for de-listment. I’m stunned about Udall’s. I sent Boxer a scathing, full of disgust email concerning this horrible issue
Bernie Sanders, Leahy [sp] and one other male senator did not vote for de-listment. [Wish I could remember his name — help!]

Tess…It was Sanders, Leahy, Wyden and Levin. I think Sanders is an Independent. So only three Dems voted no and I actually called them way back when trying to find out if that was a vote for wolves or against the budget bill but I couldn’t get a straight answer…surprise. But still they stood against it, whatever their reasons. I think Sanders did say it was because of the wolf rider but can’t remember, it’s been awhile. Yes Feinstein and Boxer both voted to delist wolves, even though we personally talked to Boxer and she said she supported wolves and the ESA, so much for promises. I think the Udalls voting for it was a disgrace. The Senators I listed are the only Dems up for re-election.

II get the anger here. i called every single senator in all states before the rider was voted on in order to tell them that I thought it was a sleazy and environmentally destructive precedent that abrogated the intent of the ESA. But I think we need to look at our options here. In other words who is the worst candidate and proceed accordingly. The whole system is corrupt but I think you stand little or no chance with Republicans in office of ever making things better for wolves. They can still do more damage that is being done now with a republican majority in Congress. And I would not expect Obama to veto anything the Republicans come up with. he did not veto the rider and has a history of making bad choices for cabinet members including Salazaar and Jewell as well as backing off his progressive ideals and compromising good inititaives to death. Don’t be so quick to vote in republicans, especially in the western states. Certainly call and write your senators and explain why you do not support their wolf policy. The fear of not getting votes may produce change in Democrats but once a Republican is in office in many of these states it could get even worse.

We spent to much time and energy contacting Dem Senators in 2010/2011, it was a big campaign. They gave us firm assurances they supported wolves and the ESA but in the end they betrayed them both for Jon Testers Senate seat, just to hold onto their Senate majority. I’m not saying to vote Republican, what I’m saying is vote out the Dems or the Republicans who voted to delist wolves. I hold the Dems more responsible because it was their majority that passed the bill. So it’s definitely not a pro Republican post but politicians have to be held accountable for their actions. What they did has far reaching consequences, the ESA will never be the same.At this very moment Wyoming is planning to try the same thing for the second time. They tried attaching a rider to a Senate bill but it didn’t work, now they’ll be back at it again.
You should see the letter I have Al Franken wrote to the Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, practically begging him to restore Wildlife Services funding that was cut in 2011 in Minn. It’s really shameful. In fact I think I’ll put it up on the current post.
Personally I believe if the Republicans retake the Senate it will be gridlock until the 2016 election, when I hope Hilary runs. Obama is going to veto most everything that comes out of Congress. Sometimes we have have to vote our conscience. 245 dead wolves already and it’s not even November, Minnesota’s hunt starts in 8 days.
