TELL THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO PROSECUTE ENDANGERED SPECIES KILLERS

A little known and decades old Department of Justice policy is protecting the killers of endangered grizzly bears, whooping cranes, California condors and wolves.

The so-called “McKittrick Policy” was enacted after a Montana man gunned down a wolf and later claimed he had thought he was firing on a dog. He was prosecuted, though the Department of Justice (DOJ) later decided to accept his self-exoneration by claimed ignorance and has clung to that policy of inaction for years.

Endangered species need to be protected from hunters that can simply claim they did not know what they were shooting at.

Tell President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to drop the McKittrick Policy and treat the killing of endangered species like the crime that it is.

Almost nobody ever gets prosecuted, I can think of a few, the Whites in Washington state that decimated the Lookout Pack but normally it’s “oh I thought it was a coyote” as if that makes it OK and that’s the end of it. USFWS wants to delist wolves nationally, affording them zero federal protection. They can’t or won’t protect them now so if they’re delisted around the country that’s the end of wolf recovery except in the Pacific Northwest.

      I mean there were no wolves in Kentucky for 150 years and this guy blows the wolf away and uses the coyote excuse and nothing happens to him. Unbelievable. And it’s not OK to run around shooting coyotes either. I can’t stand this mentality.

        I agree. It is a sorry excuse that should be seen for what it is (no excuse) and the hunters should be punished. Shooting coyotes (or anyone else is not okay). As I noted before, during hunting season, everyone (animals aren’t things!) is a potential victim. Hunters intent on shooting can’t seem to tell a wolf from a coyote, an elk from a moose, a deer from a cow. If someone can’t tell a wolf from a horse (and apparently some idiot couldn’t), he should be in an institution.

        Indeed, all life is precious. These people with their ‘junk animal’ mentality are quite sick. Coyotes and wolves fall into this catagory with predator hunters, no matter how they dress it up it boils down to they don’t care and in their self-absorbed mind, it’s like pulling weeds.

        Recently read about a woman from Russia who had wanted to pick out the animal she wanted to use for a fur coat from a fur farm. But when she actually saw the terrified fox in the cage, she could not bring herself to have him skinned and bought him alive to keep as a pet. This woman now swears off of fur and advocates the abolition of the fur industry. Sad that it took her that long but at least she’s on the right track now.

    Sent the message. I seem to be clicking and sending all day–emails, letters, petitions, donations. Unfortunately, they seldom do any good. We’re fighting big moneyed interests, including ranchers, hunters, gun groups. The politicians know where their next campaign contribution is coming from. Even Senator Maria Cantwell (a democrat from Washington state) voted for the delisting. Last time I looked (before this vote), she had a 100% pro-animal record. Looks like even she is backing down.

    We regularly go wolf watching to Yellowstone National Park and have followed the lives of some of the Yellowstone wolves over the years and the wolf McKittrick killed was one of the first wolves brought to the Park in 1995, (number 10) McKittrick’s mate who was with him at the time of the killing later told Authorities that McKittrick knew it was a wolf he was shooting, but obviously the Authorities choose to believe him and made this ruling. There has been a book written about the killing of wolf number 10. We wish Hunters would leave these beautiful animals alone, and indeed stop shooting all animals which are all God’s creatures and were not put on Earth for the benefit of man.
