Update: September 7, 2015
Thanks so much everyone for the get well wishes! Your kind words boosted my spirits ❤
I would have liked to answer each one of you individually but since I’m one-finger-typing it’s easier to give a singular shout out to y’all 🙂
Many howls,
Nabeki

By now I’m sure you’re wondering why I haven’t been posting. It’s not because I’ve given up on wolf advocacy but I broke my dominant hand and can only type with one finger, VERY SLOWLY. Already this post has taken me awhile to type. So forgive me but I will be back as soon as my hand heals. For now I’ll have to keep my posts short or reblog posts from some of the excellent sites like Exposing the Big Game.
For the wolves, For the wild ones,
Nabeki ❤

Get better we all need you. Thankfully, “we” now have Wolves in California AND a very enlightened Fish & Wildlife AND a strong, active animal protection group. BUT, they are in a very dangerous part of the state so I hope they stay undercover.

Echo’s killer won’t be charged?? Coyote excuse my butt. Do they think we’re stupid. I wonder if Cecil’s killer will be charged? So happy about OR7 and mate raising pops, but I pray Idaho gets no kills this week.

Such injuries do take time–I injured my R wrist in May, and still have problems at times! Get better soon! We are fostering a little black kitten with upper resp. condition, who was near death, named “Sweet Wolfie”–he is so loving, and now happy to be with us!
Best Regards and Wishes for full recovery..

Hi Nabeki,
Latest wolf kill #s are 14 in Idaho, 4 in MT.
MT DFWP wants to kill about 25% this year, which coincides with both highest levels of wolf/livestock depredation induced by human ?management? , and with definite extinction if kept up.
See Rob Wielgus et al. in PLoS 1 last Dec Jan for relationship of depredation to human killing of wolves.
Reading the Missoulian just this am, I see the intense intrahuman hate, with that usual false stereotyping of the hated group. Fable is not falling before knowledge, and wolves die because humans use them as symbols of their hatred for one another.
What this means is that we have to somehow reach successfully to diminish the anonymous distant hatred occurring. I’m not myself innocent of hating the haters, because I have seen the death of wildlife related to it.
But, just spending part of the last 9 months studying this problem, it will be extremely difficult although vitally necessary to overcome. Just this past week I have spent in an urban environment (I am more rural than just about anyone, and my existence gives the lie to those who pretend that those who love the wolf are urban(, and found that the issue is almost utterly ignored in cities.
Just as ranchers, the urban are entirely involved in financial and political complaint, even though they are not changing even the issues which occupy them.
The internet is vehicle for both those who wish to kill the wild, as those younger who seek to preserve what diminishing little is left. Yet, I know of NO one I have met since West YS Speak for Wolves(thank you for supporting that), who exhibits the remotest care for them. Right amongst the pleasure-killers, I did meet someone who silently agreed with the need to respect the lives, each individual life of, wolves. We spoke in veiled ways within that group, in a city of about 5200 people, so there is hope.
Psychology sez that people rarely speak up against what they perceive as the opinions of the social group to which they perceive themselves as attached (which is why I associate so little, as this attribute of the human psyche kicks in to some extent whether we will or no.
So it takes a long time before someone can change the opinions of the group in which they are immersed. Can’t do it in volatile groups – one is just excluded.
Gotta change that or subvert it sufficiently to get knowledge across, and to reach personally enough that those who use the wolf of symbol of all that is hated, withdraw from using wolf as symbol…
It may be a one-on-one thing, painful to contemplate as it is, in its slowness and the death going on.
US people are too used to both desire (go to war) and acceptance of violent death as answer.
Everytime you help someone away from believing this, it is a step to understanding that might save one wild innocent life.
Wolf advocates REALLY need to reach out to Ojibwe and other peoples whose traditions recognize a deep close relationship to Ma’iingan – Wolf. When you do, you will see perhaps how they try to remain civil, while speaking personally.
