Wisconsin Wolf Hunt Closed Today!

Wisconsin wolf hunt closes December 5 2014

December 5, 2014

Finally the torture is over for Wisconsin wolves. 154 wolves were killed in the hunt since October 15, that’s an average of  3 wolves per day, have all the deaths been counted yet? I don’t know.

The hounders didn’t get much chance to chase wolves with dogs to their deaths, thank god, but any wolf  suffering that fate is one too many or any wolf subjected to trapping, shooting, snaring, etc is one too many.

Sadly wolves are still being hunted in Idaho, Montana and Minnesota.

Thanks To All Who Called Wisconsin DNR – Zones 3 and 6 Will Close 12/5 – Wisconsin Wolf Hunt Will End!!

Wisconsin DNR Will Close Zones 3 and 6

December 4, 2014

Thank you to everyone who called the Wisconsin DNR and put pressure on them to close zones 3 and 6. As I stated in my previous post, Wisconsin went over limit by 18 dead wolves in zones 1 and 2 earlier in their “season”. Even though they set a  quota  of 150 dead wolves for the hunt, the Wisconsin DNR was keeping zones 3 and 6 open, which would have pushed the number of dead wolves over limit.  As you can see by the above chart zones 3 and 6 will close tomorrow! The death toll now stands at 151, one wolf over limit. I’m expecting that number to increase by tomorrow but it could have been much worse if you had not called and protested. Every wolf life is precious and we grieve that so many wolves died in this hunt and especially the wolves who were being chased by up to six dogs per hunter, since the “wolf/dog fighting” season just opened.

Thank you again for taking the time to call the Wisconsin DNR to protest! Many, many HOWLS!!!!

For the wolves, For the wild ones,

Nabeki

Wisconsin Wolf Hunt Goes Over Limit By 18 Dead Wolves – But DNR Won’t Stop Hunt When Quota Is Reached!

Wolf Hunt Wisconsin Overlimit jpg

Update: December 3, 2014

Total dead wolves now @ 147. They should be stopping at 150, they’re over in zones 1 and 2 by 18 WOLVES. Please continue to call and voice your protest. It’s bad enough wolves are being killed in the first place, now hounding season is on, the wolves are being chased by up to six dogs per hunter. It’s heart breaking to think of, especially for the pups.

Yet the Wisconsin DNR is continuing to keep zones 3 and 6 open, which means more dead wolves and well over the 150 quota, which THEY SET!!

Wisconsin, one of the disgusting wolf killing states, allowed hunters to go over limit in zones 1 and 2 by eighteen dead wolves, as you can see by the above graphic chart.

The number of dead wolves now stands at 146 just 4 away from the quota of 150. But is the Wisconsin DNR going to stop the wolf hunt when the 150 number is reached? Oh no? That wouldn’t be fair to the wolf hounders, who’ve been wanting for the chance to chase poor wolves with up to six dogs per hunter, so they can track and trail them to their deaths. So the Wisconsin DNR is going to let the hunt  go forward in the two open zones, 3 and 6, allowing another eighteen wolves to be killed, which will bring the quota over the 150 limit to 164. In plain language, 14 more wolves will have to die, because the Wisconsin DNR won’t stop the hunt @ the 150 quota!

The fact I’m reporting about dead wolves and numbers of dead wolves is so offensive. We have to exhibit more than outrage, the hunts become worse every year they’re allowed to continue. Pups are just eight months old. They haven’t had a chance to live and yet their hunted down along with the rest of the pack, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, gone. It’s a nightmare that must end.

Wolf Patrol will be out monitoring this horrible situation.

Media Release: Activists Monitoring Hound Hunting & Snaring of Wolves in Wisconsin for Illegal Activity

Hound hunting trucks on the first morning of the Wisconsin hound hunting season.

Great Lakes Wolf Patrol also has been informed that Wisconsin’s wolf hunt will not end when the statewide quota reaches 150, as was earlier reported, but will be allowed to continue until the remaining open areas (Zones 3 & 6) have filled their individual quotas (40 & 35).

A major reason for GLWP’s presence in the hound hunt is because legal wolf kills are exceeding pre-determined quotas, such as in Zone 2 where the quota was 15, but allowable kills were 29.

Wisconsin Trophy Hunters Slaughter 91 Wolves in 5 days, Go Over Limit In Two Zones

UPDATE: October 21, 2014

The numbers changed today on the DNR 2014 “wolf harvest”. It’s now 92 wolves dead but the numbers have moved around on the chart.  Hmmmm. Notice there is one less dead wolf in Zone 1, where trophy hunters went over the legal limit. Yesterday the number  of wolves killed in that zone was 37, now it’s 36. So one dead wolf was moved from Zone 1 and added to Zone 3.  Also notice that it says “Zones will close when quotas are reached”. So how did they allow so many wolves to die above the legal limit?  It’s bad enough there is a hunt at all but hunters in Zone 2 killed FOURTEEN more wolves than they were supposed to. And in Zone 1 they killed 5 wolves, now it’s been changed to 4, over the legal limit. That’s 18 dead wolves who shouldn’t be dead. This is outrageous!!

I hate that I have to look at this chart. I hate that I have to ask about dead wolf numbers. I hate I used the word “harvest”, if only to describe what’s on the chart.

Have wolf advocates been reduced to counting dead wolves? It’s so incredibly maddening.

Wisconsin DNR Wolf “Harvest”

It’s bad enough 91 wolves have been slaughtered in Wisconsin since October 15 (just five days) but notice Wisconsin trophy hunters are going over  legal limits of killing wolves. In Zone 1 by 5 wolves and in Zone 2 by 14 wolves. Is the DNR ignoring what amounts to poaching of wolves by not monitoring the hunt closely and letting hunters kill wolves with impunity?

Please flood their lines and ask why hunters have been allowed to go over the legal hunting limit in Zone 2 by 14 wolves and Zone 1 by 5 wolves. Do they care?

UPDATE: Wis. wolf season ends with 6 extra wolves killed

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin wolf hunters and trappers went slightly over the quota this season.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said Thursday the 2013 season ended with 257 wolves harvested. That’s six animals over the 251-wolf limit.

Wisconsin Trophy Hunters Wipe Out 65 Wolves In Just 4 Days..

Wisconsin wolf public domain

Deja’ Vu – Slaughtered Wisconsin Wolf – 1909 – What’s different today?

October 18, 2014

There’s a wolf killing frenzy going on in Wisconsin. In just four days Wisconsin trophy hunters have slaughtered 65 wolves, that’s over 16 wolves per day. Wolves are being tracked and trailed by up to 6 dogs per hunter and I don’t believe for one second that some of those wolves haven’t been directly killed by dogs or at the very least bitten multiple times before they’re killed by the hunters. Can you imagine the terror wolves face as their chased by barking dogs and hunters?

Besides legalized dog/wolf fighting,Wisconsin allows wolves to be trapped, arrowed, shot and baited. And they’re killing wolf puppies, who are barely eight months old. Trophy hunting is sick and anyone who engages in it needs their heads examined.

The Badger state trophy hunters are acting like barbarians, this is nothing but blood lust and hatred toward an animal who’s been persecuted for hundreds of years in this country. Shame on the Obama Administration for allowing  USFWS to delist Great Lakes wolves. They’ve turned wolves over to their greatest enemies, fish and game agencies.

IMO Ted Nugent was obviously encouraging poaching of Wisconsin wolves when he  posted this on his Facebook page on October 17, 2014.

“WISCONSIN Spirit BloodBrothers the Weisner family trapped this stunning wolf. Though no state has issued an adeqaute number of wolf tags, believe when I tell you that certain WE THE PEOPLE in touch caring Americans are killing MANY MANY more wolves than the numbnut corrupt dishonest PC government thugs allow. Kill as many as you can real conservationists. The wolf population is irresponsibly & dangerously out of control. Wolf jackets ROCK!!”

Is Wisconsin DNR investigating Nugent’s outrageous comment? I doubt it, they’re too busy sucking up to their customers, the hunters.

BOYCOTT WISCONSIN!

Don’t buy their cheese or any products they sell. Don’t visit or take vacations there. The only way to send a message to the state is to hit them in their pocketbook. Maybe they’ll reconsider their disgusting “dog fighting” wolf hunt.

Patricia Randolph’s Madravenspeak: Why is the DNR destroying our wolves?

October 12, 2014 4:30 am  •

“My favorite recipe for wolf is to skin it, piss on it and let it rot for the maggots. Then cash in the hide and watch people like you squirt a tear over it.” — Dwayne Glosemeyer, Wisconsin Wolf Hunt Facebook page

Dwayne Glosemeyer’s in-your-face arrogance flinging torture and disrespect for wolves at wolf advocates mirrors the hatred of wolves promoted by the Department of Natural Resources. The DNR has a flagrant disregard for science, nature, and the majority of citizens in Wisconsin.

Paul Paquet is a world-renowned Canadian biologist who has been studying wolves for over four decades. He is on the advisory/science and recovery board of the Living with Wolves organization started by Jim and Jamie Dutcher after they lived with and filmed the Sawtooth Pack for six years. The organization’s goal is to stop the slaughter of wolves. Jane Goodall and Robert Redford are on the honorary board. I heard Paquet speak passionately against hunting wolves, as a moral issue, at the International Wolf Symposium last October in Duluth, Minn. He co-signed the letter sent by UW-Madison’s Adrian Treves recommending suspension of the 2014 Wisconsin wolf hunt.

HSUS Sues USFWS & Salazar Over Great Lakes Wolves Delisting!

gray wolf tumblr the champion

The Humane Society of the United States, Born Free USA, Friends of Animals, Help Our Wolves Live (HOWL) and Their Environment are suing the USFWS and Ken Salazar over the delisting of  gray wolves in the Great Lakes, which includes Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan.  They are demanding the wolves be placed back on the Endangered Species List.

We’ve all been waiting for this news.  HSUS filed an intent to sue back in October 2012 but we haven’t heard much about the lawsuit since then. This is very welcome news!

“The Humane Society of the United States and other animal welfare groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday to restore federal protections for gray wolves in the western Great Lakes region that were lifted last year.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in the District of Columbia against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and its parent agency, the U.S. Department of the Interior, said the decision to take wolves in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan off the endangered list threatens the animals’ recovery throughout most of their historic range. At one time, the animals roamed nearly all of North America”.…nbcnewsonlinedotcom

Minnesota and Wisconsin rushed to hold wolf hunts soon after the USFWS delisted them.  Minnesota’s actions were particularly egregious since their state plan previously included  a five-year moratorium on wolf hunts if wolves were ever delisted. But in an underhanded move, the Minnesota state legislature went to work and trashed the 5 year moratorium, paving the way for almost instant wolf hunts. Adding insult to injury both states ignored the pleas from Native Americans, namely the Ojibwe people, to stop the wolf hunts. A few tribes closed their reservations to wolf hunters but because many of their reservations are fragmented the majority of the tribes weren’t able to do this and so had to watch helplessly as their brother wolf was slaughtered.

Wisconsin’s bear hounders were chomping at the bit to hunt wolves with dogs and the state’s DNR went along with it. Thankfully it was challenged in court and an injunction was issued to stop the hunting of wolves with up to six dogs per hunter. Recently that injunction was lifted paving the way for the horrible practice to be carried out by 2014.

I applaud HSUS and the other environmental groups. Wolf advocates  have watched in horror as over 1000 wolves have been tortured, brutalized and killed in five state wolf hunts,  since August 30, 2012.   Minnesota’s  hunt killed 413 wolves quickly. Wisconsin slaughtered 117 of the iconic predators and Michigan is moving with lightning speed to establish a wolf hunt.

Relisting wolves is the only way to stop this madness. Hunters have been whipped to near frenzy by right-wing crazies, who’ve demonized wolves, blaming  them for everything under the sun, including eating children at bus stops. The irony is wolves are the least dangerous of the large carnivores that inhabit North America, with just two controversial fatalities in the last 100 years.  Hunters OTOH kill almost a hundred people a year in hunting accidents and wound another 1000.  An 11 year old  boy in Oregon was wounded at a bus stop but it wasn’t by a wolf,  a hunter accidentally shot him in the leg while he waited for the school bus.

I can only hope this lawsuit will be successful and wolves in the Upper Peninsula will once again be placed back on the Endangered Species list where they belong.  They should stay there until the climate of hate and persecution is stamped out and the yahoos who want to inflict pain and suffering on these vital apex predators have died out. I would give that about another fifty years!

Wildlife Protection Groups File Suit to Restore Federal Protection for Great Lakes Wolves

A coalition of wildlife protection groups, including The Humane Society of the United States, Born Free USA, Help Our Wolves Live and Friends of Animals and Their Environment, filed suit against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over its decision to remove the protections of the Endangered Species Act from gray wolves living in the western Great Lakes region.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s most recent decision to delist wolves became effective last year, after multiple previous attempts to delist wolves were struck down by the courts over the course of the last decade. The decision threatens the fragile remnants of the gray wolf population by confining wolves to a small area in the Great Lakes region – where state wildlife managers have rushed forward with reckless killing programs that threaten wolves with the very same practices that pushed them to the brink of extinction in the first place.

“In the short time since federal protections have been removed, trophy hunters and trappers have killed hundreds of Great Lakes wolves under hostile state management programs that encourage dramatic reductions in wolf populations,” said Jonathan Lovvorn, senior vice president and chief counsel for animal protection litigation at The HSUS.  “This decision rolls back the only line of defense for wolf populations, and paves the way for the same state-sponsored eradication policies that pushed this species to the brink of extinction in the first place.”

“The Endangered Species Act is popularly considered one of the most powerful conservation laws on the books, but it is rendered impotent if species are not allowed to recover fully across the breadth of their range before delisting,” said Adam Roberts, executive vice president of Born Free USA. “Simply put, the gray wolf still requires protection under the Act.”

“Wolf populations are just at the threshold of rebounding in many areas across the Great Lakes Region,” said Linda Hatfield, executive director of Help Our Wolves Live. “The recent delisting has taken the wolf back to the old days, days before the ESA, the days of state-sponsored bounty payments to hunters and trappers that were intended to eliminate wolves from the landscape.”

Following federal delisting, Wisconsin and Minnesota rushed to enact emergency regulations to allow the first public hunting and trapping seasons in the Great Lakes region in more than 40 years. The states authorized some of the most abusive and unsporting practices, including hound hunting, snares, baiting, night hunting and the use of steel-jawed leg hold traps. Together, hunters and trappers killed more than 500 wolves in these two states in less than four months.  These losses are in addition to natural limiting factors and a wide range of other human-caused impacts, such as the killing of wolves by damage control agents, poachers, and, inadvertently, by automobile drivers.

The Michigan legislature recently amended state law to designate wolves as a game species, which would allow the state to authorize a trophy hunting and trapping season for wolves. There is a referendum campaign, launched by animal welfare and conservation groups and Native American tribes, in progress to place the measure on the ballot and nullify the action of the legislature.

The plaintiffs are represented in the case by Schiff Hardin, LLP and attorneys within The HSUS’ Animal Protection Litigation section. The complaint was filed in the federal district court for the District of Columbia.

Timeline

October 2012 – January 2013 – More than 500 wolves killed by hunters and trappers in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Nov. 3, 2012 – Minnesota’s hunting and trapping season begins.

Oct. 15, 2012 – Wisconsin’s wolf hunting and trapping season begins, marking the first public hunting and trapping season in the Great Lakes region in nearly 40 years. The HSUS and others send notice of their intent to sue the USFWS over its unlawful decision to delist wolves in the Great Lakes region.

December 2012 – Michigan enacts legislation declaring the gray wolf a game animal to allow a trophy hunting season.

April 2012 – July 2012 – Wisconsin enacts legislation mandating a wolf hunting and trapping season, requiring that the state wildlife agency authorize the use of dogs, night hunting and snare and leg-hold traps. The state wildlife agency adopts regulations for the hunting and trapping of wolves in 2012-2013 via emergency rules.

July 2011 – August 2012 – Minnesota enacts legislation allowing a wolf hunting and trapping season once wolves are delisted. The state wildlife agency adopts regulations for the hunting and trapping of wolves in 2012-2013 via emergency rules.

December 2011 – The USFWS issues a final rule delisting the gray wolf population in the western Great Lakes.

September 2010 – The USFWS issues a finding that petitions to delist wolves in the Great Lakes region “may be warranted.”

July 2009 – The HSUS enters into a court-approved settlement agreement with the USFWS that reinstated federal protections for wolves in the Great Lakes region.

June 2009 – The HSUS files suit in federal court to block the delisting decision

April 2009 – The USFWS issues a final rule delisting the gray wolf population in the western Great Lakes.

September 2008 – In response to litigation filed by The HSUS and other organizations, a federal court overturned the USFWS’ Great Lakes delisting decision, thereby reinstating federal protections for gray wolves in the region.

February 2007 – The USFWS issues a final rule delisting the gray wolf population in the western Great Lakes.

2005 – 2006 – The USFWS tries to strip wolves of protection by issuing blanket permits to the state of Wisconsin that authorize state officials to kill dozens of wolves. These permits are thrown out by a federal court in response to a lawsuit by The HSUS.

January 2005 – A federal court rules that the 2003 downlisting was arbitrary and capricious, returning the wolf to endangered status.

2003 – The USFWS issues a final rule downgrading most of the gray wolves living in the lower 48 states from endangered to threatened, making it easier for people to lethally take wolves.

1978 – Gray wolf listed at the species level under the Endangered Species Act as endangered throughout the coterminous United States and Mexico, except in Minnesota, where gray wolves were listed as threatened.

1974 – Various subspecies of wolves listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.

1967 – Wolves listed under the Endangered Species Preservation Act of 1966 – the precursor to the Endangered Species Act.

Lawsuit: Put gray wolves back on endangered species list in upper Midwest

By Steve Karnowski, AP

Hunters and trappers in Minnesota and Wisconsin killed 530 wolves combined during those states’ recently concluded seasons — 413 in Minnesota and 117 in Wisconsin. The Michigan Legislature voted in December to authorize wolf hunting, which could resume as early as this fall if the state’s Natural Resources Commission approves.

“In the short time since federal protections have been removed, trophy hunters and trappers have killed hundreds of Great Lakes wolves under hostile state management programs that encourage dramatic reductions in wolf populations,” Jonathan Lovvorn, chief counsel for animal protection litigation at the HSUS, said in a statement. “This decision rolls back the only line of defense for wolf populations, and paves the way for the same state-sponsored eradication policies that pushed this species to the brink of extinction in the first place.”

Animal welfare groups want gray wolves protected, hunting to end

By Steve Karnowski

February 12, 2013

MINNEAPOLIS — The Humane Society of the United States and other animal welfare groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday to restore federal protections for gray wolves in the western Great Lakes region that were lifted last year.

At one time, the animals roamed nearly all of North America.

The Humane Society of the United States provided a copy of the lawsuit to The Associated Press before its public announcement in the afternoon. The other plaintiffs include Born Free USA, Help Our Wolves Live and Friends of Animals and Their Environment.

Wisconsin Judge Allows Hunting Wolves With Dogs But Decision Mixed

wolf-hunt-with-dogs-wc

January 5, 2013

Judge Anderson split his decision, allowing the hunting of wolves with dogs but not under the present DNR “wolf management plan”. That means Wisconsin hunters cannot train their dogs to hunt wolves at this time. BUT what I can see happening is the Wisconsin DNR will go back to the drawing board and include clearer rules and regs on hunting wolves with dogs, to be ready for the 2013 hunt. Wisconsin’s current wolf hunt is closed.

How crazy and demented is it to even think of chasing wolves with up to six dogs per hunter?

There is no science behind this, only political pressure from hunters, you know the people who pay money for wolf tags, money that goes directly into the coffers of the Wisconsin DNR.

The fact hunting wolves with dogs has been resurrected is proof positive wolves MUST be relisted and soon!!

Judge allows wolf hunting with dogs

By Associated Press and Paul A. Smith of the Journal Sentinel
Jan. 4, 2013

Madison – A Dane County judge said Friday the Department of Natural Resources had failed to enact adequate restrictions for dogs used to track or trail wolves, thereby prohibiting the practice under current state law.

However, Judge Peter Anderson’s ruling would allow dogs to hunt wolves.

“There is no evidence that there is a safe way to undertake training of dogs to hunt wolves,” Anderson said. “The agency had authority to put in place rules, but it failed to act.”

Anderson’s specific ruling was that NR 17.4 on dog trials and training was “invalid” with regard to wolves. The section of Wisconsin Administrative Code was written in 2003, before wolves were a game species in the state, and includes no language about wolves.

“It is not sufficient for the agency to disregard all the evidence on this issue,” Anderson said. “Or more specifically, to do nothing.”

Simultaneous with his ruling, the judge dissolved a temporary injunction issued last year that prohibited the use of dogs to hunt wolves.

The ruling was met with mixed emotions by both the plaintiffs and defendants.

“We are pleased that Judge Anderson removed the injunction that banned the use of dogs for hunting wolves,” said DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp. “However, we are disappointed with his decision to prohibit training of dogs to hunt wolves.”

The lawsuit was brought by animal welfare groups and individuals who claimed the state had insufficient rules to protect dogs. The defendants were the DNR and the Natural Resources Board.

A wolf hunting and trapping season was authorized in Wisconsin by Act 169. The legislation, passed last April, allowed the use of dogs to hunt wolves, as well as to track and trail wolves.

Wisconsin is the only state to authorize the use of dogs to hunt wolves.

The legislation included few restrictions on wolf hunting or training with dogs.

While DNR officials claimed their hands were tied by the legislation, the judge repeatedly stated the DNR and Natural Resources Board had authority to put additional restrictions in place.

“The court took the DNR to task for what amounted to bad policy and bad decision-making couched behind poor process,” said Jodi Habush-Sinykin, an attorney for the plaintiffs.

Although Wisconsin’s first wolf hunting season ended when harvest quotas were reached in December, the ruling would allow hunters to use dogs to hunt wolves next season, said DNR attorney Tim Andryk.

The DNR is in the midst of creating a permanent rule for wolf hunting and trapping in the state, as well as revising its wolf management plan.

Andryk said it was premature to say how the judge’s ruling might affect either. Both the permanent rule and the wolf plan are expected to be finalized in 2014.

Carl Sinderbrand, attorney for the plaintiffs, said the overall effect of the ruling was favorable for those seeking additional protections for dogs and wolves. Without the judge’s ruling, dogs could have been used to track or trail wolves immediately in Wisconsin.

Wolves killed a hunting hound as recently as last week in Jackson County.

“In the bigger picture, this case has helped people see if the DNR uses science to make decisions or whether they base them on political pressure,” Sinderbrand said.

Sinderbrand said it was possible a bill would be introduced this session to modify portions of Act 169, including the use of dogs to hunt wolves. The 2013 wolf hunting and trapping season is scheduled to start Oct. 15.

Judge Peterson said he would issue a written version of his ruling next week.

A Victory For Wisconsin Wolves!! Judge Says No To Hunting Wolves With Dogs!!

The Wolf Hunt

The Wolf Hunt (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Finally a  victory!! Judge Peter C. Anderson has barred hunting Wisconsin wolves with dogs. This could derail the Wisconsin wolf hunt for this year. GOOD!!  Wisconsin was set to sic up to six dogs per hunter on innocent wolves. But it won’t be happening and wolf advocates couldn’t be happier. The wolf hunt insanity has reached epic levels of depravity and hunting wolves with dogs was the height of it. Now let’s hope there will be no wolf hunt in Wisconsin this year or any year.

Judge: Don’t bring your dogs on wolf hunt in Wisconsin

 The Associated Press AP

7:45 p.m. CDT, August 31, 2012

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Dane County judge issued an order Friday that temporarily bans wolf hunters from training or using dogs in the chase, casting doubt on whether this fall’s hunt will happen.Judge Peter C. Anderson’s order comes as part of a lawsuit that a group of humane societies brought against the state Department of Natural Resources. The group contends the agency failed to impose any restrictions on dog training and dog use when it set up this fall’s new wolf hunt, creating the possibility of bloody fights that would violate Wisconsin’s animal cruelty statutes.

Judge bars dogs from Wisconsin wolf hunt

MADISON- A Dane County judge has blocked hunters from using dogs to go after wolves this fall.Judge Peter C. Anderson issued a temporary injunction Friday as part of a lawsuit a group of humane societies have filed against the Department of Natural Resources. The group contends the DNR failed to impose restrictions on hunting dogs during this fall’s wolf hunt, setting deadly dog-wolf clashes in the woods. It’s unclear what the ruling means for the hunt. Anderson says hunters can still go after wolves. DNR officials have warned the injunction could scuttle the hunt. They have said don’t have enough time to change their regulations to reflect the dog ban before the hunt begins in mid-October.DNR attorney Tim Andryk says the agency will have to review the judge’s order.

Wisconsin Assembly Passes Brutal Wolf Hunt Bill….

Dead Wolf  (or coyote) Wisconsin 1909

March 14, 2012

All the pleas, the testimony from Native Americans, didn’t make any difference at all. The Wisconsin Assembly passed AB502  early this morning.  Let’s turn back the clock to 1909, the second wolf  pogrom is under way except this time, they’ll keep around a small, beleaguered group of wolves to torture every year for trophy hunters.  I can’t tell you how disgusted and angry I feel right now. Three years of this madness since Obama delisted wolves.  And for what?

In the brief  AP report it was mentioned the bill passed over the objection of  Democrats so I’m assuming all the ugly particulars sailed right through. Now wolves can be hunted with dogs (a pack of  up to six dogs can be used to track and trail a wolf), hunted at night, clubbed to death in traps, shooting across roads will be allowed, the use of almost any type of weapon including muzzle loaders, handguns, shotguns, bow and arrows, crossbows, traps and snares, predator calls, baiting  and a hunt extending into wolf breeding season, allowing pregnant alpha wolves to be shot and killed along with their unborn pups. Nice going Wisconsin.

These are the groups who reported lobbying for this monstrosity of a bill. This wolf hunt is being driven by “thrill kill seekers” and  has nothing to do with science but everything to do with providing amusement for trophy hunters.

Groups Reported Lobbying For Wolf Hunt Bill

Safari Club International, Wisconsin Chapters
United Sportsmen of Wisconsin, Inc.
Wi~Force (Wisconsin Firearm Owners, Ranges, Clubs & Educators, Inc.)
Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association
Wisconsin Bowhunters Association
Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association

Assembly passes bill creating wolf hunt

Posted: Mar 14, 2012 2:33 AM MDT Updated: Mar 14, 2012 2:33 AM MDT
MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A wolf hunt in Wisconsin would be created under a bill that has passed the state Legislature.

The Assembly passed the measure early Wednesday morning despite objections from Democrats who argued concerns of experts about the need for such a hunt and the way it was organized under the bill.
