Following sharp public criticism, Animal Planet removed its Man-Eating Super Wolves show from previously scheduled air times on Tuesday evening, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28. The program was a part of the special series Monster Week, which routinely demonizes real and imagined predators.
“The show was irresponsible,” said the Center’s Executive Director Rob Schultz. “Producers blended distorted facts, fabricated details and unreliable resources to confuse the public and incite fear and hatred of wolves.”

I am indeed glad of this small yet powerful victory. My family has never supported any boycotts that I have shared with them and this kind of shows are no exception as they will blatantly watch ignoring any attempt of mine to convince them not to. Thanks to this I have been able to send a more powerful message and assert to all those around me that are oblivious and ignorant that I’m not just a crazy “obsessed” person.

Daniel, your caring does not make you a crazy obsessed person. Just remember that many friends here online also share your level of caring – as do hundreds of thousands around the world. I’m sorry that your family is not supportive on this, but you can lead by example. Sometimes it takes a long time for what a parent says to sink in, but people can change – over time. Dont give up!

Thank you Daniel for being the passionate advocate that you are! It’s hard to change hearts and minds but this victory shows what advocates can do if we stand together!

I am blown away at the the redneck shows on National Geo, Discovery and other channels. Has a stupid virus infected America? Have you seen “Wicked Tuna” ?

It IS good news, truly…it’s difficult enough to convince major networks to use decent judgment in the programs they air, but the promos for this particular bag of tripe went over the top.
I’ve said this before, because I thought it was noteworthy but, after a fiasco dealing with “Call of the Wild Man” (infant raccoons taken from their mother and held captive until they were ‘discovered’), Animal Planet’s response was disheartening: Our programming is to entertain, not educate.
No one in my family watches AP any more; if we wanted programs that disrespect or falsely portray wildlife, we’d be watching The Outdoor Channel.

Surely this points to the power of people actually taking the time to write and voice their opinion – which was that their show is crap. Maybe Im wrong but didnt AP start off as a decent channel showing stories about animals? What went wrong?

Good.
Oh look Valerius Geist… explains a lot.
Considering the timing of this, this is not what is required right now… not that complete and utter B.S. trying to pass itself off as a documentary is ever required.

Thanks for getting this show cancelled. Without a thought for anything but ratings, these people will demonize Wolves and try to make us believe in Werewolves. It seems like all of the “Outdoor” Shows are dedicated to the killing of Animals and WE must put a stop to as much of this programming as possible. We did it with one and WE can do it with the rest. If WE BOYCOTT IDAHO Potatoes ,we can leverage them into stopping the slaughter. Unfortunately all I see is a bunch of groups with their own agendas and not enough working together to STOP the KILLING. IF WE STAND TOGETHER WE CAN WIN.

I agree. The other day I was in the grocery store, (knowing the potatoes were from Idaho) I loaded my shopping cart with them. I then asked a person in produce where the potatoes were from. He looked and was shocked at the amount that I had in my cart. I told him that many of us were making potato salad for a picnic. He said, “They are from Idaho”. With that I proceeded to put every last potato back…and said, “Sorry, we don’t support any place that slaughters wolves. Idaho is being boycotted.”

Good for you Anne!! I don’t buy Idaho potatoes either or anything else from that state if I can help it.

Great to read this bit of good news. I also agree, complete unity will allow us to be an even greater threat to those who defend the slaughter.

So glad to hear we won one. So many battles left to fight to save our wolf brothers from eradication. Last year I acquired a wolf/dog hybrid and he has single handedly changed my perspective of wolves. He is my constant companion and my best friend. He wants to do everything I do and he is always trying to help. He makes me want to be a better human being and help the world recognize the right for his kind to live . What would this world be without these magnificent creatures? STOP the killing and let them live in peace.

This is very good news. AP needs to get back to educational, factual programming instead of the sensationalistic garbage they’ve been airing. We need to keep an eye on them to ensure that they stop demonizing wolves and other wildlife.
