UPDATE: May 16, 2012

The decision on whether to extradite Captain Watson to Costa Rica has been postponed by a German court until Friday, May 18, 2012.

Please continue to call and write to the German Federal Minister of Justice, using the contacts below.  Sea Shepherd has a pre-written letter on their site that I’ve linked to or you can compose your own letter. Be civil but firm and resolute in your defense of Paul and why he should be set free.

This is obviously politically motivated and I’m certain Captain Watson would NOT receive a fair trial in Costa Rica.

Paul Watson is an iconic figure, who for decades has been a voice for the voiceless.  He is needed to continue his work, not sitting in a jail in Germany or Costa Rica.

Even Interpol refused to red alert the warrant, stating on their site:

14 May 2012
“INTERPOL statement to clarify the record concerning Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

On 2 March, 2012 INTERPOL issued a written statement to all 190 member countries making it clear that it would not publish a Red Notice seeking the arrest of Paul Franklin Watson because its Office of Legal Affairs was not satisfied that the request was in compliance with INTERPOL’s Constitution and Rules.”

If INTERPOL wouldn’t move on the warrant, why did Germany? It’s obvious the German courts should follow INTERPOL’S lead. Dismiss this case!!

FREE PAUL WATSON!!

In a very unfortunate move the German government  has decided to hold Captain Watson while the extradition process moves along.

Captain Watson is a personal hero of mine and to many thousands of people around the world. We have to come to his aid!

Sea Shepherd needs our help to fight this injustice. I’m asking all my blog readers to use the contact information below including the sample letter that Sea Shepherd provides on their site.  Please contact the German Federal Minister of Justice on Paul’s behalf.

UPDATE: May 16, 2012

Captain Watson will have to wait until Friday to see if a German court will rule to have him extradited to Costa Rica. A decision was expected today but now has been moved ahead to May 18,2012.

Please continue to call and write to the German Federal Minister, all contacts below.  There is no way Captain Watson will get a fair trial in Costa Rica. The incident he was arrested for is ten years old, this is obviously politically motivated. Who’s behind this? And why is the German government taking this warrant so seriously when Interpol refused to red alert it.

From The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

Urgent Call to Sea Shepherd Supporters – Help Save Captain Watson from Extradition to Costa Rica!

In shocking news, German officials have decided to proceed with the extradition of Captain Watson to Costa Rica.  Our last hope of saving Captain Watson from extradition is to convince German officials at the Ministry of Justice to step in and overturn their decision.  Show your support for Captain Watson by contacting Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, the Federal Minister of Justice in Berlin, Germany.  Let her know that the warrant for Captain Watson’s arrest is politically motivated and thus should be ignored by the German government.  With international support we can set Captain Watson free, and keep him from the possibility of facing an unfair trial in Costa Rica.
