It’s Pupping Season, Idaho Is Preparing To Aerial Gun Lolo Wolves….

From the Lewiston Journal Online:

Aerial gunning of wolves in the Lolo Zone could begin “with all due haste,” if the animals are delisted by the end of this week, said Idaho Fish and Game Director Virgil Moore at Lewiston this morning.”

Yes, the state of Idaho is going to carry out their plan to kill 5o wolves in the Lolo,  a misguided attempt to increase elk numbers.  This is just another excuse to kill wolves, using the 10j, right in the middle of wolf pupping season. Elk numbers in the Lolo have been declining for years, before wolves were even reintroduced to Idaho, many factors contributed to this, yet once again wolves have been scapegoated.  This wolf kill is not going to help elk because the supposed “saved elk” will then be targets of  hunters when  hunting season rolls around. Killing predators to increase game herds is backward, 19th century policy.

Let’s put this puzzle together. It looks like USFWS is planning on publishing the wolf delisting rule by the end of this week, making the delisting of wolves official.

Remember Congress passed the “budget wolf delisting bill” and Obama signed it into law, effectively stripping gray wolves in the Northern Rockies of their ESA protections.

“Language attached to a budget bill by Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama last month ordered the federal wildlife agency to reissue a 2009 rule that delisted wolves. The law also insulates the rule from court challenge.”

After Obama signed the bill on April 16, the USFWS had sixty days to publish the delisting rule.  It looks like they are not going to waste anytime doing it. Why? Because Idaho wants to aerial gun 50 Lolo wolves while there is still snow on the ground. Nice huh?

“We believe there is still enough snow on the ground that we can pursue those animals via aerial gunning and try to reduce those numbers,”

The department is scrambling to find aircraft to carry out the mission before snow melts and will seek assistance from federal wildlife agents to do the shooting. Once snow has melted, trapping will be used in the Lolo Zone.

Wolf puppies are being born right now and Idaho is planning on carrying out a wolf slaughter in the Lolo during pupping season, which will be a death sentence for the helpless pups, who’ll be left to starve.

Puppies just like these.

Babies will be losing  their lives along with their parents in the Idaho Lolo zone very soon. Will people stand up in protest? Do Americans want their tax dollars used to aerial gun wolves for no other reason then to carry out a disgusting scheme to increase elk numbers for hunters,  leaving wolf pups as collateral damage?

Where is the media on this?  Where is the outrage? Are we now a country that accepts the killing of wolves during pupping season as normal behavior?  How is this not animal cruelty? Please explain to me how this does not qualify as animal abuse?

Please spread the word about this terrible tragedy. If you have any media contacts, use them. Tell the story of what’s  facing the poor helpless Idaho wolves, who only want to live in peace and have their puppies.

  3. This is not an acceptable way to control the wolf population. The wolves were introduced back into the wild and now they will be destroyed. That makes no sense! Aerial hunting is not humane. The pups will starve to death when their mother is killed. When they shoot one, it doesn’t always die instantly. They lay and suffer until death finally comes. This practice should not be allowed. The wolves should not suffer because we have an inept president!

There HAS to be some way to file an injunction to not allow the aerial hunts. This is not to be tolerated In ALASKA and Not to be tolerated In Idaho either!!! Sarah Palin LOST her governorship because of this-does Otter wish the same? He is as filthy as they come-Im sure the dirt can come up on him in financials too to dethrone him. He must have syphilis eating his brain like Hitler-no other reason for such a cruel heinous genocide Holocaust of animals. He must remember if Justice is not served in this Life it WILL BE DONE BY GOD- he is not above judgement day and even if the American Indians did fear the wolves sometimes- they Knew this was a SACRED animal that has HUGE signifigance to God and the ecosphere- The Heavens will rumble-When you delist Wolves AWFULLY IRONIC how storms consume America-watched fist size hailballs come and PUMMEL WASHINGTON DC the day they did last time- God is PISSED the HELL OFF-

  6. This makes me sick at heart….Idaho’s Gov. is one of the worst human beings on the face of the earth…he has been pushing for wolf killing for a long time and he won’t stop. All the information he and others of his ilk is so far off of the truth…what is wrong with human beings anyway…people like Otter and his friends make me so ashamed to be human….they are misguided, cruel people….what really makes me angry is how the rider which is the reason that this is even going to happen was passed by our esteemed governing body…including Obama….this rider was tucked away in the budget bill where it never should have been….our government has its own agenda and it doesn’t reflect what the majority want but instead panders to the minority who shout the loudest and have the most $$$ to buy what they want. This whole thing means mass murder for wolves and the blood is on our governments head and most of all on Obama’s because he had the power to remove the rider and did not do it….Write to Obama and tell him how disgusted you are with what he is allowing to happen to wolves!!!!

  7. Nabeki, I am going to be faxing/emailing our petition for a boycott to the White House, all Senators, etc. Governor Otter should also be a recipient. Is there any one else that would do the same? I know that we are all at our wits end, tired and frustrated, but they really need to hear from us and we must be relentless. Keep the faith!

    To Whom it May Concern:

The gray wolf has been singled out; deemed inconvenient and expendable. Congress has not only delisted, but permanently exempted gray wolves in the northwest from any future protections. This was not done with sound science, as required by law according to the ESA. It was not accomplished by open and honest debate, or even a single piece of legislation, but as governance by rider, in a must pass bill, without any judicial review. This is totally inappropriate behavior; an egregious abuse of power, and is viewed as such.

Any political entity that blatantly ignores an entire segment of the population, and abuses a trust, can not be trusted in matters of civilization, and personal importance. These actions of politicians send a message; we will return the favor. Revenue from tourism is unimportant, we’ll keep our part in that. Environmental responsibility is unimportant. We will use our voices to spread awareness of the issues, and discourage everyone we know from spending tourism money in Idaho, Montana, or any other state who either; continues to show a persistent reckless concern for the gray wolf’s survival, enacts inhumane hunting practices, profits from predator derbies, or proves themselves incapable of reasonable or responsible wolf management.

It seems to be money that has a voice; very well, we will boycott all things Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, or Utah. In addition to other states to be named, if necessary, at a future date. This is to include revenues for Yellowstone/Glacier National Parks.

This is OUR voice, and the “language” “We The People” have crafted.

Representatives aren’t listening to anything else it seems, other than personal agendas. Let’s see if a boycott helps the economy. There will be no revenue from this means to further the slaughter of wolves.

Wolves have been unjustly blamed for a large percentage of livestock and ungulate depredations. A recent study found that only 3 percent of all livestock losses in the northern Rockies were due to all native predators combined.

The only numbers an elected official or individual state really needs to be concerned about now, are those of the millions of registered voters/consumers whose hackles have been raised in protest, and no longer support “their” personal agenda, or tolerate an economy of slaughter.

    Sincerely,

The American People You Betrayed, and on behalf of the Gray Wolves of America

  8. Knowing that wolves aren’t THE reason for the decline of the Lolo elk (which has been in decline since the 80′ because of many environmental and human factors). They’re just using them as scapegoats.
Since they hate them so, why not act like they are the main, number 1 problem? Sounds pretty easy, doesn’t it? Kill them wolves to let them good ol’ hunters shoot em’ then?

  9. I have tried not to dwell on the horrors that will happen. But we all knew this was going to be ugly. It is dire that we push back, and push hard,in any way possible. These loopholes that allow aerial gunning must be closed….for starters. Let them walk upright and be forced to face the wolf if they want to kill him.

Anyone who claims a sense of pride in the unsavory maneuvers that delisted the wolf, and revels at their part in it, is truly the lowest form of life on the planet. This entire situation makes me physically ill.

May they find the very same mercy that they extend to the wolves.

    • I like that idea, but who would have to do it? The only responses that come out of letter writing are these generic forms, that make me seriously doubt that very little if any of the letters written, are read. And those not by the persons you’ve sent them to, but someone who does all the correspondence for them. Can the the 4 groups who didn’t sell out go through the court, or is the ban for everyone?

  15. I have written and called the senators, Obama, the 10 environmental groups who backed down and made a deal, repeatedly. I’ve also asked why these wolves, or as many can be, are not be relocated to avoid the slaughter that Idaho and Montana have in store for them. So far I’m not getting any answers and after the fact is just to little to late. It’s great to say how ignorant and heartless these people are, we already know that. Forget that, and just say what can be done in the here and now to try and stop this slaughter. Name calling, and hateful messages are not going to do anything but inflame these people more, and give them a sense of entitlement to feel righteous indignation. They have to be given a reason for not wanting the wolves destroyed, and that would be self preservation. Rats and other disease carrying pests would be a good place to start. Theses states want to destroy 3 animals that keep rodents from over running farms. It’s an idea to think about.

    NO!!!
I’m sure that if “The Normal Everyday Good People” would unite, where this sickness is going to be executed, with the intent of defending wolves with what ever means necessary then that would send a very loud message to all the people that are not hearing anything that is being said!

    What would that say?

That there are normal people in THE UNITED STATES with common sense that will not let people in high places make back room deals, and attach riders to bills THAT DON”T MAKE SENSE, and that WE WILL NOT LET IT HAPPEN!!!

I’m also sure that taking a Real Public Stand will get the attention of all the news media, and then national attention will be put on the issue, and this madness will stop, or at least a serious look will taken at what is about to happen.
