Howl Across America

Howling for Justice, NIWA and Wolf Warriors is launching HOWL ACROSS AMERICA on Facebook today.

During the entire month of August 2011, we would like to encourage wolf advocates everywhere to hold peaceful protests/rallies in their hometowns.

We can no longer sit on the sidelines, writing endless letters, faxing and calling, while the war against wolves rages on.  It’s time to stand up and be heard.

Please join Wolf Warriors from across the country as we HOWL in protest against the escalating persecution of wolves in America, especially the Northern Rockies. We denounce the delisting of wolves by budget rider and the brutal wolf hunts proposed by Montana and Idaho for this coming fall. Wyoming also wants “unregulated killing of wolves” in most of their state. That means wolves would be classified under predator status and could be killed year round. This is outrageous and a slap in the face to everyone who worked so hard to bring wolves back to the Northern Rockies. Now, after just sixteen years, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana want to kill them.

Wolves are already hunted year round by Wildlife Services, for miniscule livestock depredations. We may be seeing a repeat of the first Western extermination and why wolves badly need ESA protection. It also demonstrates what wolf advocates have been stating all along, that the states cannot be trusted to care for wolves. They only seem to listen to two groups of people, ranchers and hunters, many of whom have made it quite clear they do not want wolves.

Why State Fish and Game Agencies Can’t Manage Predators

  1. Unfortunately my howl is like that of a tone-deaf wolf who just sucked on a helium balloon.

But in all seriousness: power to you all and sock it to ’em.

    • John…your Howl is just as important, even if it is so far away. Howl for the dingos that are so persecuted in your country while your Howling for the wolves here in America and around the world. I really hope this catches on and we show the wolf haters how much support wolves have. We could make a real difference if we could get a little media attention.

  3. Nabecki,
Thank you for putting this together. Today I have another stack of letters to send out to Senators. I get very discouraged when there is no response from them, nor do any of them talk about it in the media – just silence when so much is at stake. This past Saturday I asked a friend of mine who is a Lakota pipe carrier to hold a ceremony for the wolves. It felt good to get prayer out there to give the wolves protection, but I know there is so much more that needs to be done. You have given me another way to focus my attention to save the wolves.

  5. Sadly, the only canine predator we have here these days is the (very persecuted) fox. The hunters and sheep farmers killed all the wolves centuries ago. Nonetheless, I am there with you and support you every single step of the way, until all the wolves of North America, Europe, Russia and the Middle East are protected and respected.

  7. […] Howl Across America has nothing to do with the Allen Ginsburg poem, “Howl,” written back in 1955-56.    And yet, when dealing with the State of Idaho‘s policies toward a flourishing wolf population, it may be time for poets to adopt the much maligned animal. […]

  8. We stand with Howl Across America, fighting for our precious wolves. The American people demanded and invested in wolf recovery. We resent our will being subverted by a handful of wolf-hating extremists. Make no mistake, the wolves are the first attack against the Endangered Species Act and protection for all wild creatures and wild lands. Our entire country and all the good that has been done in protection of land, resources and creatures. Taking a stand for wolves is making a stand against tyranny. The Endangered Species Act was a step toward healing a damaged nation. Don’t let the totalitarian extremists destroy it. Stand with the light. Fight for our wolves.

    • Raven I just have to keep going back to Obama, Ken Salazar and those 81 Senators that voted to delist wolves by budget rider. If it wasn’t for them none of this would be happening no matter how radical the wolf states are. They had to have help to delist wolves. Does anyone think this would have happened if Hillary had been elected? Absolutely not!!

  9. Yes, the blood is definately on Obama’s head.He is no Nature lover, a product of the Chicago machine and a servant to corporate interests. If a Clinton was in office, it would not have happened. Bruce Babbitt, the Clinton Interior Secretary supported wolf recovery and the ESA. Ken Salazar is a rancher and it’s like having the fox guard the henhouse with him heading up Interior. I wrote Obama and told him he finally turned my vote against him by betraying the wolves. He could have said no way to the rider.

    • Raven…it was Obama who delisted wolves mere months into his admin. and caused this nightmare. Any appeals to the White House fall on deaf ears. I’ve given up writing to him or any of the Dems for that matter. They all voted to delist wolves and THEY KNEW exactly what they were doing. Hypocrites all, to pretend they cared about the ESA and wolves. Our dilemma is we have nobody to vote for. I wish someone would step up to challenge Obama on the Dem side. If only Hilary had won the election we wouldn’t be taking about an imminent wolf slaughter.

  10. Yes, there is no candidate for the people or for the wolves and protection of our wild lands and creatures. This government is a corporate oligarchy. Wish Obama would not run or that Hilary would challenge him. Won’t happen.
